Ep3 will be released after Portal 2, because they are connected (characters meet at some point, portal to hl2 is whats opposing force was to hl), and Valve wanted that to be a surprise, but Portal 2 took a bit long, so Ep3 got delayed too (maybe it'll even be HL3).

But how can Valve make some surprise if all the kids bitch and moan at every website about Ep3 delay.

I know that Valve wants Ep3 to be the great Game, and you know that too, so why don't just shut up, wait, enjoy Portal 2, then Ep3?

@mikfox74 Actually, Portal 2 is not connected to Half Life 2, even though they're set in the same universe, they have decided to shorten the connection between the games.

@CopperyDock Well, same universe is still a major connection - let's assume that in Ep3 something big happenes, Aperture is screwed, Black Mesa is screwed, Earth/Humanity/Universe is screwed or whatever, but in Portal 2 that still exists, so chronologically Portal 2 is earlier and therefore is has to come out earlier, it makes sense if you look from this angle.

Besides, Valve really like to surprise, so HL and Portal may turn out to be more connected than we think.. or not connected at all.

From the beginning of Portal 1, it's known something's happened outside, and GLaDOS has continued the experiments. She even says "You don't know what it's like out there". So the theory is the Combine attack has already happened as of Portal 1. Portal 2 takes place a few years later, and more crap is going down.
