Remember that you probably wouldn't be able to earn that much if the rest of the country weren't there to create your labor, infracstructures and markets. That all needs to be paid for. Yes, it's much cheaper to run a business in China, what with labour costing a fraction of what it does in highly developed countries. This plays a much bigger role than taxes, because it affects revenue, not profit. Let me tell you a secret. When companies calculate profit, they initially ignore taxes on their balance sheet . Why? Because taxes are a function of profit, not the other way around. Therefore, taxes literally don't affect the viability of any business transaction.

@calimar28 They do affect how much money the owners end up taking home, but by all reasonable standards, the shareholders still get the best deal out of all of it. Incidentally, with it's low taxes (which I'm not even sure what that means, is that top income tax margin, total tax revenue, what?), China also has a tiny domestic market, especially considering its vast population. So, there also isn't as much money to be made...

The issue with the current economic policy of the US, is that, one the bailouts they did only benefited the richer people, while the middle class still got screwed thanks to greedy banks.

The answer to Pat's argument is don't raise luxury taxes, raise income and import taxes. Sales taxes are the easiest to dodge, as Pat just illustrated. Excellent opportunity to slam sales taxes for the regressive tax they are.

Raise income and import taxes so moving your factory isn't going to dodge anything - it will cost you more. If you want to live here, you pay taxes. If you don't, good riddance, we don't need freeloaders in the U.S.
