Florez is the best Voice to sing this Role : in my opinion Vickers is not right because Rinuccio is a young guy , very young and Vickers's Voice is too dark and large to fit well this Character - the right Tenor should be a "tenore leggero" or "tenore di grazia" .
I anyway love very much Mr Vickers , especially when he sings Samson , Sigmund, Othello or Canio (the one conducted by Karajan, with Kabaivanska)- congratulation Mr FLOREZ , you are always an amazing ,fablious Artist !!
Some have asked what type of voice should sing this. I also posted a version of this little aria. Mine was by Jon Vickers however. A rather different voice type.
Florez sounds really fine here but he doesn't have quiet enough voice for a big American theater.
OUTSTANDING singing of this VERY challenging aria. The heavier voices I used to listen to always struggle to access the top end pitches, due to the speed required to execute them - especially the first one, where Rinucchio sings "Gianni Schicci" at the top - VERY tough, even for a light voice. You can see JDF's efforts to keep the voice cavity spread very wide, to allow the thinness required --
Absolutely EXEMPLARY singing - BRAVO AGAIN, Juan Diego!
This role demands a more dramatic tenor than florez. Nevertheless I find that his interpretation is not bad at all. it is an interesting alternative and I personally find it quite attractive.
Great tenorino! Obviously he possesses clear sharp notes, but alas, he is not very musical. Was the role written for a light tenor? May be, but that does not make him cause an artistic impression, except for those who go to the opera waiting for two high Bs of Cs.
Juan Diego is ideal for this young character, but the role is much too small for him now. He's the No.1 tenor in the world and maturing into lyric roles. He will be the ultimate Romeo.
It´s one of very difficult arias for tenor.I know it-my closed friend sang it and we were disscusing about it. Juan can sing it without any tense. He is absolutely marvelous!I am his big fan!
Yes, very well sung, but the orchestration in this aria makes it very difficult for a tenore di grazia to be heard (unless there is a truly gifted and willing maestro in the pit). Florez has rightly taken this role out of his live repertoire (I think this is from the Wiener Staatsoper c 2003)
Check out his reaction when he doesn't get an applause at the end! This is one of those arias when the audience just doesn't know if they should clap or not. I did 16 performances of this (sang it well, too)and did not get an applause until the last show-I was shocked.
Rinuccio is supposed to be a young man. If you ask me, younger then I imaging Rodolfo or Calaf, so the lightness of voice that JDF has, is to me very suiting to this role, and what a wonderful voice that is. 5 stars
What a voice! I dont think he is an ideal interpreter of this aria, but it was performed very well. I would like to hear him in more Mozart. Great posting!
What a wonderful luxury! This role is usually undercast, despite the allure of this beautiful aria. To hear it sung so well is a great pleasure. Thanks for posting.

Until you've heard him live don't make accusations. I was absolutely blown away hearing him in Manot Lescaut when he made his Chicago debut.

Fake, mic'd and enhanced to sound WAY bigger than it is. DISGUSTING how they lie and misrepresent.

Tan extraño escuchar a Juan Diego Florez intepretar a Puccini...

No role is too small for a great artist, if it suits him perfectly and he enjoys singing it.
Tito Schipa continued to accept the role of Beppo, when he could fit it into his schedule, even after he was a superstar, because he loved the aria.
