I was one of those lucky ones with six wisdom teeth - I woke up in the middle of having them removed (and I had 17 teeth pulled over a ten year period before that). Small mouth with a lot of teeth .... sigh

I had to get my top wisdom teeth pulled out when I was 25. I had great dentists. The only part of the procedure that hurt was paying the bill.

I have a severe disdain for doctors/dentists. I'm suffering wisdom teeth problems right now.

Minor aches and pains but as much as I'd like to believe that it's wisdom teeth (had x-rays) I won't budge and go under until I'm certain.

I had a botched medical procedure (rhino-catheter) when I was 17.

The catheter was a size too big and left in 4days instead of the normal 1 1/2.

My sinuses on that side have been screwed up ever since.

@jmacjr101 I sooooooooooooo understand your fear!!! when they were ripping out one of my wisdom teeth they needed four needles to numb the gum cause it just wouldnt take!!! ive had 8 teeth pulled out in total! 4 wisdom and 4 molars!!! thats ALOT of needles!!! i hope you dont need to go through the same thing!!! =(

In Australia you don't get wisdom teeth removed for no reason! Like the dentist here is removing perfectly healthy teeth incase in the future they have problems.

American doctors are so over the top and so invasive! Most people don't have any problems with wisdoms, and if they do they can easily remove them as adults.

@TheTammyTube You get your teeth removed because if you don't have enough room it will cause your teeth to be crooked. That really sucks if you have had braces. Also if you get them done when your younger the roots haven't grown as much and there is less of a risk of complications.

@TheTammyTube The problem is that as you get older, your wisdom teeth eventually grow roots/nerves that connect to your jaw. If you have your w-teeth removed after that happens, the chances that you will loose the feeling/use of that side of your face grows exponentially. It's a scarey thought. Although you're right. Most doctors in the us are out for the money and tell you that you have to do things that you really don't need.

@TheTammyTube Don't stereotype American doctors. ): My dentist only removed one wisdom teeth because it was starting to grow out and it really was hurting me. I still have 3 left though.

@TheTammyTube Maybe we just have shitty genes over here, but a lot of people get impacted wisdom teeth and they can be incredibly painful. There was absolutely no room on my bottom jaw and so they were so impacted that the one was actually beginning to grow into my jaw bone. They had to put me under and dislocate my jaw to deal with it. It was awful :(

@TheTammyTube I'm certain there was a valid reason to get their wisdom teeth out. Their orthodontist had ordered it, so they very likely had impacted widom teeth that would misalign the rest of their teeth had they been left alone. I had the same issue.

I feel just like the girl that was crying, I do the same thing. I get myself all worked up and then when it's over I realize it wasn't that bad and I laugh at myself for doing all that. You would think I would be over it but I go through the same routine everytime.

Oh man they are so lucky that they got to be put under for the whole thing. I was awake during mine but I don't have any memory of it because I was given a pill that kind of made me drowsy and a bit calmer or something like that. But still I absolutely hate the needles the dentist says that it will feel like a mosquito bite boy is he ever wrong. Even the pink numbing gel doesn't help.

I bet i can beat everyone that has written on this page bout taking out their wisdom teeth out. I had to have 4 molars removed for preparation for getting my braces on,then after they came off,not long after i had to have all 4 wisdom teeth taken out. Then afterwards i drove myself home with a mouthful of blood and went to work the next day!!! so thats a total of 8 teeth!!!

@Supablonde1 Yeah I had 8 teeth removed, though I had them all taken out on the same day. Was lucky as I was put under for it though because it was so many teeth they were worried I'd go into shock or something! I also had my upper and lower jaw broken and reset as I had an under-bite with one and over-bite on the other. So the teeth was actually the easy bit!

@Supablonde1 Well, I have to say that I have a similar situation. I had to have 4 teeth removed not to long ago and they molars. There were no adult teeth behind them so I had to use rubberbands on my braces to shut the holes. Now, I am about to get my wisdom to teeth out and I am a full time college student. I get to go straight back to work, school and class the day after. I hate dental surgery

I don't get the big deal... I had all four of my wisdom teeth out (3 impacted), and it took my dentist about 15 minutes to get them all. It was totally painless, I felt nothing. A few days on Vicodin, and I was back to eating soft food. No biggie.

I don't understand why that when there is no room for the wisdom tooth in the back, they don't just remove another tooth, maybe the 1st molar, to make room for our biggest tooth. Wouldn't we want that tooth? It would be easier to get out, since lots of times they end up having to cut out a wisdom tooth. Why not just pull 1st molar? Had all 4 of widom teeth cut (dug) out. Ugh.

@morbashlurog i just got my wisdom teeth out monday, and one of the only reasons i got them out was because they were impacted. so you cant always do that. besides, there isn't really a reason to keep them if you dont need to. as for why not just taking out other teeth, it doesn't work that way, the teeth dont work like that

I was kinda lucky and was born with only my top set of wisdom teeth. The dentist said it was cause of genetics, but both my brothers had all 4. It's not to bad getting them out, not as bad as some other dental work -_-

Please don't worry about it. I got mine removed when I was 19. I got an IV for anaesthetic, and I was knocked out in about 10 seconds. You'll be fine!
