1. Dawkins. He hits hard, he's smart and most of all he's the greatest leader in the NFL. Ed Reed is obviously going to be up there, john lynch was only a big hitter. All the other top safetys have other qualities.

Ed reed and polamalu aint even close. Compare the stats. Reed had more picks his first 3 years then polamalu has had his entire career AND ED REED PLAYED STRONG SAFETY THOSE 3 YEARS, JUST LIKE TROY DOES NOW (1st year- 5.... 2nd year- 7.... 3rd year- 9 (2004 DPOY)

i would say ed reed is better at reading QBs and picking them off. but troy is a better tackler and bob sanders in superb at tackling also hes always around the ball but is always injured.

I would have to agree that Darren Sharper should of been on this list but Sean Taylor...NO! Bob Sanders is too injury prone to be on this list. Polamalu is the best in my book and Rod Woodson made this list before the season even started! If it was made today for their 2009 proformance, Ed Reed would even make a top 5 list. What has he done this season. Raven can't even stop anyone anymore!

Bob Sanders is obvious the best safety in the nfl. Without Bob the colts defense are horrible both Ed Reed and Troy Polomalu have great defenses. Plus Bob stops the run like a linebacker.

The steelers are a TOTALLY different defense without troy, look at the games with him and without him this year because of injuries and tell me that again. And Ed Reed has been there for a long time to make that great Ravens defense, and bob may help stop the run but he doesn't play coverage as well as those guys...check the facts
