To me, it really doesn't matter what branch you're in: Special Ops is Special Ops, the baddest of the badasses, the elites, and come to the aid of one another. I'm sure those SEALs, the Army SPECOPS guys in Somalia, the F-14 pilot shot down in Desert Storm, or the countless number of Green Berets in 'Nam cared if it was "the do-nothing Air Farce" (I'm an Air Force vet, & heard that bullshit more times than I can count!) that saved them..disagree? Asked the soldier"s families & see what THEY say!
@nvhswrestler22 Probably an Air Force Combat Controller (CCT); Predator drone; or, maybe a SEAL trained in the same way a CCT member is (directing air strikes, etc.).....
@seancul55 chances of them being real SEALs are slim becuase there are 2500 active seals and 300 million american citizins, but if they are thats awesome and i hope they won because their suurpose to be elite and able to kill people 250 different ways with their hands lol
@mereou12 lol i know right. There's probably way more to it then what was said of course or every single man and woman would be getting thrown the DFC for " just doing there job"
This same squadron (known as the 4th Air Commando Squadron back then) used the AC-47 Spookys to successfully defend over 500 special forces camps & hamlets throughout Vietnam. In fact, no allied installation was ever overrun by the Viet Cong when a spooky was called in for help.
'Ol Spookey" was all over the place in the Nam. Saving the sorry asses of the grunts on the ground. It was SOP. No medals for them. There were some fantastic pilots who could shut down their engines and silently glide unto target (more like fall because the AC-130 has a very poor glide ratio.and suddenly, seemingly out of nowhere restart their engines and shit down a big hurt on a wide-eyed gook.
You guys are fucking stupid... lets say a four man SEAL team went on a mission and came out to be like 200 taliban and they called in air support... are the SEALs bad, you expect them to kill all of them? You guys are fucking retarded, know nothing fags.
@mswoonc i know right...ppl have this totally hollywood vision on SEAL's or any spec ops. yeah US Spec ops can handle way more then their fair share but numbers is numbers and 200 to 4 needs a spooky.
fighting in a place where the enemy got no airforce to fight back...=.=" i can't see why they can be so proud about saving some little seals who suck so much...
@Demo9237 Look, the situation was embarrassing for the unit...I didn't say the unit was embarrassing. Get it right. Shit does not go 100% as planned, I agree with you on that. I'm in no way saying Navy SEALs are trash because they are not but they have had a bad history and Army Special Ops is hesitant to work with them because of that. Read "Not A Good Day To Die" to get a better picture. I am not making this up...
@redthreemike The only reason that SEALs find themselves getting messed up, is because they're sent in to accomplish the most dangerous types of DA/snatch-and-grab type missions. Look at Operation Redwing, where four SEALs took on hundreds of Taliban, and they dropped roughly a hundred of them before being wiped out themselves. Don't ever underestimate the US Navy SEALs, never in your life (I actually have experience with SEALs, so I know what I'm talking about).
@GUMMYBEAYUH I highly doubt you have experience with SEALs. And how do you know how many Taliban there were? From the Medal Of Honor Citation for Murphy it states there were only 40-60 taliban...not hundreds. And who was keeping count of how many were "dropped?" I'm sure that team was not keeping count...how could you when you're all shot up?
@Demo9237 Yes things do go wrong but they are supposed to be the "elite" in that area. So when shit goes wrong, especially when it's in an area you're supposed to strive in then it looks embarrassing on the unit...that's just how it is man. Just calling it as I see it...
@redthreemike "Yes things do go wrong but they are supposed to be the "elite" in that area. " They're soldiers, not superheroes.
"So when shit goes wrong, especially when it's in an area you're supposed to strive in then it looks embarrassing on the unit." Shit ALWAYS goes wrong in war, especially when you're a unit that conducts the most dangerous missions. So, it's not embarrassing at all when something is disastrous. It's inevitable.
@Tree0rnament Yeah things do go wrong but you have to also realize that these guys in these elite units are not used to failure so they do become embarrased when it happens. Just like any other soldier, sailor, marine or airman that is trained to do something and comes up short. They get embarrased, it's that simple...
@Demo9237 Awww...did I hurt your feelings? I'm sorry. Ops do go wrong but that particular one could have been prevented. SEALs getting the harder ops...hmmm...they all get hard ops jackass. Not just the SEALs. Can they do everything...not really, that's why we have different Spec Ops...because they have different jobs. I don't see SEALs taking a rebel army and fighting with them like Army SF...but you do see Army SF doing Direct Action just like the SEALs and more...
Goodness, it always seems that the SEALs are always getting rescued. Operation Anaconda, Operation Redwing, Panama and Grenada and now this...pretty embarrasing if you ask me. Great job Air Force.
@redthreemike or it could just show that the teamwork between forces is what truly gets the mission accomplished, the Seals are amazing but if you got the help you are a fool not to use..o im in the airforce so im not sticking up for the seals cuz im navy or one of them
@MadMexican7 i don't mean to be a prick but Navy Seals ( with all do respect ) are a bit rash honestly i keep looking for military info and navy seals all i read about is how they always need support or help when out there alone...
@P3rplexity hey p3r, whats BMT? I want to be a fighter pilot, or a ranger......or if im fit enough a seal....but does it have to do anything with being a fighter pilot?
That's what the award is for, Distinguished Flying...so it's in the parameters.
Now if it was a Medal of Honor or Silver Star, et cetera, that would take a different roll different situation.
Seems like the right award yet also seems interesting that this would come about, as the Air Force hardly ever gives out awards to enlisted members. It's a huge struggle, so an officer must have pushed it. They give themselves medals for knowing the day of the week. Just kidding!
? They got the DFC for being in a C-130 giving support to SEALs? Doesn't seem like they were in harms way at all. Unless they had some Para-Rescue come down and get the SEALs out. anyone have more info?
