  • I drink your milkshake! I drink it up!

  • with these.....people....BWAAAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!

  • You don't have you logically justify why you love the ending of this film you know! You don't have to convince yourself you like it because of the 'religious iconography' or the this, or that. You can just like something for what it is.

  • I'll have to give it more time, of course, but this may just be one of the greatest films I've ever known and ever seen.

I'll cherish the poster I received before I saw the movie.

  • I want intelligent discussion about this movie. I know youtube comment boards are the last place to find it, but I have seen this three times and I am struck each time by how great the 1st half is and how lame the last half is. The entire conclusion is rife with bad writing and things that, even in a 2 1/2 half hour movie, seem rushed and ill planned.

I love most of this though.

    Thoughts?

  • I agree. It left me a little confused, as if I was not sure if he succeeded doing what he meant to do, but I left with such a feeling for the move, mostly because of the atmosphere he managed to convey in the first half. I love P.T Anderson and I really loved the feel of this movie but it is hard to put into words what I liked and didn't like about it. A strange thing for me.

  • I find this movie to be near perfect in every form. The conclusion is one of the things I love most about the film...it is such a concise but complex layered look at man overtaken by greed and indifference, by a lust for "blood", tormented souls through that lust symbolized in religious iconography... it's an ending that gives a HUGE nod to Kubrick but still manages to be completely original. This is one of the most riveting anti-hero films I have ever seen... it is absolutely brilliant.

  • The ending is actually the most perfect ending for this type of film, and it completely fits with the entire film. The only reason that you don't like the ending, is because of you. It was not rushed, or bad. It was perfect, and it completely flew over your head. Period.

  • Throughout the movie, we see Plainview develop incredibly complex, detailed relationships with his son and Eli. And then he destroys them in the end as his greed/rage/guilt/mustache overpowers him, (there are more opinions as to the meaning of this movie then there are people to give them.)

I'm not saying the climax, thematically, wasn't perfect. I'm saying it was executed rather shoddily. So much of this movie is so careful and perfect, that the ending seems like an unfortunate afterbirth.

  • i disagree, i think that the one things missing from this movie is the answer to "why is plainview bitter, why does he hate" his character is incomplete, but that is not to say that daniel day lewis does not do a perfect job of acting, because he does

  • Daniel Day Lewis is pretty much an acting beast...his dedication to his art is mind boggling and I have never seen him in a movie where his performance hasn't been absolutely stellar.

What do you think about the climax of the film? I haven't seen it since I first posted on here...nearly 8 months ago, although I bought the special edition the day it came out.

I agree with what you say about his character, though I wonder if the 'why' was not something Anderson was interested in.

  • Danial Plainview is a loveless drunk in the end, sad. His son is not destroyed in the end ,he is. The drinking will kill him soon after the movie's storyline ends. Dieing from booze is ugly. Danial Plainview's life is really worthless. The acting in the movie is superb however.

  • @MatBitesDog lol most of what over powers him is his mustashe hu?

  • i thought the ending of the movie was brilliant, personally, but I can see how it might be too gruesome and disturbing for some people to handle

  • i thought the ending of the movie was brilliant, personally, but I can see how it might be too gruesome and disturbing for some people to handle

  • only one person dies, and he dies quickly. it wasnt even that bad.

  • Its sad that some people find it boring or hate it. They dont see the true brilliance or originality or Anderson's style.

  • I did not enjoy the movie at all found it boring, however the performance by Daniel Day Lewis was great. The only reason I finished watchin this movie was his acting. He deserves an oscar imo, simply for the fact that he was able to keep me watching this film.

No country was a better movie to me.

  • Best movie of the year hands down! And the oscars go to....

  • actually the movie was VERY good. true it is in much part due to great acting, but the whole movie is good! some people just need the typical hollywood blockbuster predictable crap to feel like they understand what they just watched.

  • A-MEN! Its a shame how most people dont appreciate the unconventional stuff. they just like the crap that hollywood feeds them.

  • yeah this movie was only good because of day lewis which it was a performance driven type of movie like last king of Scotland, I wish that it could have been shorter.

  • Great actor... terrible movie.

  • yeeeees!

  • yep

  • that eely is fraken krazy

  • Daniel Day-Lewis...the definition of a true actor. I don't know when the movie industry will notice that. He's pretty much like Anthony hopkins in the sense that any role he'll make becomes GREAT!

  • Its performances like these that make you stand in front of the bathroom mirror and try to imitate.

  • that movie was soooooooo awesome!

  • Better than Battlefield Earth??? I doubt it!

  • i think anything logical is better than video games!even though i love video games!!!!!!!

  • Umm, that was obviously sarcasm... you must never have seen Battlefield Earth. It may very well bethe worst movie in the history of moving pictures.

  • wait..oil!...(annoyed sigh)...i thought this movie was about female menstruation

  • Why is Daniel Day-Lewis so awesome

  • idk lewis is the most under-rated actor today BY FAR as far as the general public, but is he the best actor there is right now? idk but i do know that there are VERY few that can contend him for that title

  • Omg This looks like such a good movie...i cant wait to see it...

  • This is an utterly stunning trailer, so originally constructed and chilling.

  • I agree, 99% of all trailers I see are quite deplorable. A good trailer and a good soundtrack are two components that will help make a memorable film. There Will Be Blood has both and all the other components.

  • this film reminded me of Batteries Not Included. A classic.

  • nice one!

  • Perfect timing, we just unexpectedly struck a gusher of Pennsylvania grade crude drilling for natural gas in West Virginia

  • i like this i mean it basically represents the corruption in the oil company

  • This is by any measure the most overrated movie of all time!!!!

For two and a half hours imitates John Huston's character in 'Chinatown.' it is plagiarism! If this movie wins any Oscars I will lose any respect I have for the Academy Awards. This movie is awful!

  • this movie is the best ever, flawless masterpeice!

    PTA is a genius

  • The ending of that trailer just creeps me out.

  • I want to see this movie SO bad.

  • Best movie of the year

  • wanna see it so bad

    was Paul Dano good?

  • He had to hold his own against what might be the best screen performance of all-time. I thought he was damn good with that in mind.

  • Understatement. Most incredible performance ever - by anyone. It was insane...

  • i found this on torrents but that file was a fakes!

  • so far no luck 4m my side either...

  • You owe it to yourself to see this on a big screen.

  • I agree completely with that statement. See this film on the big screen. What a treat for audiences!

  • This film was AWESOME! DDL was terrifying.

  • when Dano is saying "Dont BULLY ME Daniel PLEASE."...Daniel Day-Lewis looks SO angry...i HAVE to see that scene...

also i do love the music..i know they MUST put that in the movie...it would fit perfectly.

  • Creepiest music ever.

  • i wudn't say tht

  • It was made by Jonny Greenwood of Radiohead

  • I'd say more intense than just creepy.

  • wow, the final 30 seconds are just awesome

  • true

  • A Movie Dearest blog featured video. See my profile for the link and playlists!
