I had never heard of Roger Miller until today and for years I thought that The Proclaimers' version of this song was the original. The Proclaimers have been trolling me for years.
@love4ourhumans You sure it ain't "Countin' flowers on the wall, that don't bother me at all playing solitaire til dawn with a deck of 51...." If so, that's "Flowers on the Wall" by The Statler Brothers.
I always listen to rock and roll, but this popped up on the radio one day and I couldn't help but tap/click along. There is nothing I don't love about this song.Pure class!
@209esperanza – thanks have not heard in so long lol yes I used to love this and was in RocknRoll era not supposed to like this so much but I did lol. I think all people that struggle young or old relate to this, so long ago I forget what decade lol – But yes kind of big hit or just very popular here, I liked it a lot lol – I had no home just apartment one after another - after all the hard rockers I listen to this, I was a King of the Road lol - forget asterik post again - thanks for share
@persevere4 it's a great song hu i was watching tv and this tune showed up so i sang this and my son says danm u know every song lol i said grow up with all diffent styls lol
Roger Miller: "[Bobby Darin] was an inspiration to me.... When I wrote 'King of The Road' I was trying to write 'Mack The Knife,' something with that feel and that fingersnap thing." One great classic inspires another great classic.
@Hammerfoot72..True... This simple, yet well written catchy tune has already proven itself for more than 45 years. Rebecca Black's "Friday" should be gone by....hmmm...the end of next Friday?
@gimme2utah1: Yes, I am familiar with it. I'm sure it wasn't intended as spam (as you can see, I left your comment up), but it is kind of funny how many comments of the sort have been popping up on classic songs.
@gimme2utah1 Do you really expect the average high schooler to be an expert on The Beatles? All young people listen to new music mostly. It's just how it is. Also, I knew plenty of 10th graders at my high school who loved the Beatles, and a couple who knew every song.
I'm a brown girl. I grew up in the rural south. Getting dressed for school mornings the car toons had classical and country music accompany the programming in the '60's. That's where I fell in love with country music and this song in particular.
Brings back memories. My brother had a wind up wooden model truck that played this song. My mom always turned it on at bedtime. Now I have a friend that does this song at our favorite karaoke bar, it's great to sing along to.
Such a classic. Loved this song since i was about 5 and I am 23. One of the few new generation that truly admires older music for what it actually is. Also, bangor, Maine! Home...
If you like the old 50`s songs then you will probably like the old 60`s and 70`s too as most of them were written by songwriters who sang them and not factory produced.

@chekovrules Wonder no more!! j/k
I take it you're familiar with the sudden "popularity" of she who should not be named.
Sorry, It was not my intention to spam... and It wasn't so much a complaint as it was an observation.
It's just the world we live in now... where a 10th grader couldn't give you the first names of the 4 Beatles.
