Riot grrrl was sort of the women's turn. The song, like a lot of punk-era songs, expresses subversiveness, aggression,etc., not at all with the aim of impressing the big name feminists. Imagine Wollstonecraft, who expressed that masculinity is ideal. This song says that a woman being herself is ideal.
