  • nothing like a for with gm power!!

  • put that in a go kart .

  • Oh yeah...I bought an 8V92 turbo to put in my F350.....I set it for 475 horse... sounds like pure sex....really have to watch the rpms or I'll take out the tcase or something

  • @lumberjak5010 : Was this after the log cracked your skull? everyone knows your story isn't possible. Now dream up another bs story .

  • I've got an old Lincoln SAE 300 amp welder with a 2-53 in it. runs like new and makes some great power.....nothing like DC @ 300 amps to burn some rod up...nice job. Might be a little slow but probably torqey as hell.

  • 2-53 for a vehicle??? HAHA! Probably an old refrigeration engine off a reefer car from Pacific Fruit Express. They've gone to package units and there are ton of these things out there for dirt cheap.

  • Pulling up next to you I would have thought you have a Rod knocking

  • I was thinking of putting a cummins in my 70 ford f250 I had the idea of perhaps a 4BT or something

  • Very VERY cool!! I've been thinking about tossing a 453 into a 72 3/4 ton that I can pick up pretty cheap.

  • For some reason this just seems like a terrible idea. Sure go for something different but its a shortbed, give it tons of power and make it fast. Not put an engine in it that sounds like a cross between a vacuum cleaner and an air compressor with a rod knockin' and is probably a complete turd.

  • That truck would hardly get down the road with that little mote. "A" for effort with the turbo though.

  • VERY cool! I imagine she's a bit slow, but very cool idea. Those 2-53's and 2-71s are all over the place!

  • Lots of 2-71s and 2-53s around. They were compressor engines for railroad reefer cars until about 15 years ago. You can get one for next to nothing. Why anyone would want it in a pickup is beyond me...absolutely undersized for vehicle use.

  • That thing must get ridiculous mpg in that truck!

  • The coolest truck ever!

  • are you sure thats not a 2-71 genset engine?

  • @Jthumper

    I'm absolutely sure it's a 2-53 with a turbo, not a 2-71

  • @Jthumper Too small for a 71

  • that would be a SICK motor in a 80's ford ranger

  • The 2 stroke division of Detroit Diesel is owned by MTU-a division of Mercedes-Benz. The 4 stroke division of Detroit Diesel now making the DD13, 15 and 16 is owned by Freightliner-who's parent company is Mercedes-Benz. So still all in the family. Not Chrysler.

  • mmm mmm mmm how sweet it is

  • How many mpg does it get?

  • How well does it do on fuel economy and performance?

  • Ahh the two cylinder diesel how good does it move and can u do highway speeds etc.

  • is it yours???

  • This is definitely relevant to my interests.

  • Oh shit. Now I know what to put in my '86 Nissan Hardbody.

  • @TraditionalChevy, You would be better off putting a small Perkins diesel, Kubota or Yanmar diesel engine in something like that.

  • This still has to be my favorite detroit conversion ive seen....and i dont know why. Maybe its because if you have to work on the engine, you can just lay in there with it?

  • You should have got a Cummins 12 valve! That is what I am putting in my 1972 Ford F-250 4x4.

  • @entouchgraphics no chevy always is better

  • @DRNEGOLICIS Dude, we are talking about American Diesels. The Duramax in the Chevy is made by isuzu.

  • @entouchgraphics like i said chevy is always better this engine in this truck in this video is made by GM or chevy witch owns the GM detroit diesel division of GM they also own Isusu who colaborated with them to make the well known pice of shit duramax that replaced the detroit GM 5.7L and 6.2L and 6.5L and 8.2L diesels

  • @DRNEGOLICIS The 5.7, 6.5, and 8.2 were pieces of shit. The 6.2 was good, and did it's job which was only to achieve mileage. Detroit diesel is a heavy engine manufacturer, not an "associate with gm to design nice little pick up engine" company. The duramax is an excellent quality engine, but the old 2 cycle detroits are the best. I would take a newer detroit diesel 4 cycle in a truck over any other diesel engine out there either though. Gm doesn't own detroit diesel now, chrysler does

  • @AmoralEngineer I wouldn't say that 8.2's were total pieces of shit. Yes they were a PITA to work on and were parent bore engines, but after the head gasket fix and 17 MM head bolts they were a fairly reliable engine.

  • @AmoralEngineer If the 5.7's were shit why are they still running today, I got 150,000 miles out of one before trading it, and it was still running like a Swiss watch. I flipped the car it came it 180 feet, and it was still running like a top when it landed, destroyed the car, but would drive around the yard, so it was put in another body and driven 2 more years, wish I kept it. BTW many made 300,000 miles without major repairs, were rebuilt and back on the road!

  • @DRNEGOLICIS the 5.7L Olds diesel was a piece of shit, the 6.2L is still being made for the military HUMVEE's, and Chrysler bought out what was left of GM's ownership of DD in about '98-'02.

  • @DRNEGOLICIS The Olds diesel 5.7L (and the 4.3L version also) have nothing at all to do with the DD 6.2/6.5 engine family. The 6.2 and 6.5 are basically the same, except for extra displacement, slight upgrade in block metallurgy and one piece rear main seal and non interchangeable cranks/internals). Otherwise most all external components can be swapped over.

I just see a lot of misinformation and feel the need to straighten things out.

  • @entouchgraphics you better take care of the killer doule pin

  • i have one of these in a john deere 435 and its naturlly asperated and were pushin 60 horse after we put cross head pistins rods and had it ported and flowed with n-80's and with a turbo u might be able to get 75 tops. stock is 27 hp

  • @TRZ253 Does your john deere 435 smoke alot with the n-80s in it?

  • @Grim0881 naahh it smoked worse with the n60's cause of the spray pattern of the injector. the n80 make a lot more power and it smokes a little but not bad

  • A 2-53N would run about 55 hp, so i'm guessing with a T version of a 253, this may run about 75 hp? Of course with bigger injectors that's a different story...

  • Sounds amazing! This isnt the same one that had the 4-53, is it?

  • how is it for power?

  • This is a great combo!

Figure if he tied the motor with say a T-10 four speed W/no overdrive he should get to 50 or so MPH with or without a payload. Running uphill of any sort would tax the motor too much & would drop his speed alot. Mileage, especially steady state cruising I think would break 40MPG. "supercharged65" are you out there? Whats the set-up on this creation?

  • its a baby motor for the 1/2 ton very cool

  • neat hook up

  • Thats awesome!!! Detroit Diesel are great!! Hows the 2-53T move the Ford?

  • ive got a 70 f100 hmmmmmmmmm and a 70 c10 2 53 in the ford 3 53 in the chev hmmmmmm i need money lol

  • dang it.Now I gotta go on the hunt for a 2-53 and one of those turbo manifolds for my DJ5.....thanks a lot!

  • @SPUPRR

uh good luck on the manifold. he made it because detroit didnt turbo the 253's.
