Great video. My late father in law was an aviation mechanic during the Spanish Civil War 1936-1939, on the Republican side. He serviced those Moscas as he called them, and kept a leather helmet and gogles given to him by a pilot before the war ended.
He said the little plane did dispose of many Franco aircraft, because it was extremely maneuverable.
There were a lot of modifications of I-16 with different flight and fight properties. I-16 type 4 and type 5 were much weaker than Bf-109E, I-16 type 10, type 17, type 21 were weaker than Bf-109E but insignificantly, but I-16 type 28 and type 29 were superior than Bf-109E but slightly weaker than Bf-109F. Bf-109G don't met in wind with I-16 almost. It is not my opinion. It is the opinion of the pilot N.Golodnikov who was at WWII on I-16.
>Polikarpov I-16, usually served as breakfast for a Bf109.
It's not so. The procent of losses for I-16 during 1942 was less than for other types of soviet fighter planes. The I-16 is little and fantastically maneuverable. Try to hit it.
Hi 77Pacer - I do not have a problem with you using my Poly I-16 engine sound for your private model display for YouTube clip. Thank you for asking. regards, Airflow
it reminds me of the Gee Bee Racer of about 1932 i believe and at the time of the gee bee no military aircraft was faster and i think this design dates to about 1936(7) so their designers may have been influenced
Great to see the old I-16 still flying. I understand they are not terribly easy to fly for long periods, with no provision for trimming at all! Astonishing that any remain after the beating they took from the Germans. Note the apparent installation of an on-board starter... :)
Замечательное видео!
С большим удовольствием смотрел на полёты реальных истребителей!
100% эффект присутствия.
Хорошо, что хоть в Новой Зеландии есть И-16 гениального Поликарпова.

No landing flaps req'd due to built-in head wind.
Ailerons take up so much room anyway.

Polikarpov I-16, usually served as breakfast for a Bf109. Great job on the rebuild though!

Hope U don't mind if I use the audio for the I-16 fighter in my own WWII vids that show this aircraft. OK if I have permission to do so?
