  • Does this make your hair break more easily??

  • how long did you leave it in?

  • gah . you're so pretttyyy .

  • to me perm smells like fish...but theperm i use that has olive oil actually smells sweet...

  • sorry i'm confused why do you want it to be curly when you just relaxed it straight?

  • @beyaanka

maybe she didnt want to relax it straight, she just wanted to relax her curls to make it more manageable.

I actually like her technique. I have 4c hair, but I'm thinking of under processing my hair, just to make it more manageable without the full damaging affects of a normal perm. Been natural for almost 4 years, and I think I'm ready to end my journey (:

  • You should base your scalp I do it even on no lyes.

  • Organic Root Stimulator Relaxer....doesn't leave a stinking smell after you relax with it (give it a try), i always hated that rotten smell after relaxing lol.

  • @Urbansweetheart There is way to use any no lye relaxer and not have any after smell. I know how to use the no lyes and I can use any one of them.

  • is your hair color treated

  • but it looks really nice after aswell ;)

  • I'm 13 and I have a afro ( never relaxed - or hot ironed ) I like your hair before - Thats how I'd like mine :)

  • WHat is NEUTRALIZER shampoo and Normalizing shampoo ?? which to use???

  • breautiful hair. thanks for showing us how you do it!

  • omg you have gorg hair xx

  • I HATE when people say "You don't need a relaxer you got good hair" Does that mean others that uses relaxers have bad hair? Fucking illiterates.

  • @makeupisglam233 To be illiterate is to be unable to read or write. If anything you are slightly illiterate. "Does that mean others that uses relaxers have bad hair?" *Does that mean that those who use relaxers have bad hair?

  • @bluefavorites STFU...annoying bitch.

  • @makeupisglam233 Yes attack me verbally because you cannot come up with a logical sentence. Happy holidays.

  • @bluefavorites Yup and you TRY to sound "educated" like I said STFU I wrote that comment how long ago? ok then, dickhead. Thats all you can say Bitch.

  • @makeupisglam233 Try? I am educated. I am the one that corrected your comment remember? Well anyways. Happy Holidays again. There is still Kwanzaa!

  • @bluefavorites Did I ask you to correct my comment? My comment didn't need to be corrected dickhead.

  • @makeupisglam233 No you did not but it was just too wrong not to. You ask anyone that can read and write or maybe a 7th grader and they'd tell you there was something wrong with that sentence. Hey I'm not the "dickhead" here, being aggressive and all...

  • @bluefavorites If you were that smart you would know that I was using sarcasim in that comment. So your'e still the dumbass and the dickhead stop replying to me annoying bitch.

  • @makeupisglam233 I will reply when I please. Two things you should know is that sarcasm is not a font type so no one on the internet can really tell. Smart or not. And also, sarcasm should not be an excuse for stupidity. I'm sorry, were your kindergarten flash cards taken away? You have such vulgar vocabulary.

  • @bluefavorites Bitch what I wrote you understood. And what I said was correct. If i was as dumb as you say then why are you replying. Trying to feel more "Smart" bitch please. You sound dumb preachin on youtube about shit nobody gaf about. Kill yaself.

  • @makeupisglam233 What I understood was that you did not know the exact definition of "illiterate" so I made that clear to you before you began telling everyone they were illiterate whilst they were reading a newspaper. I am smart, thanks for reminding me. I'm sure I wasn't the one that got "illiterate" and "apathetic" mixed up. It's hard to sound "dumb" when you're giving a lesson to someone via Youtube comment.

  • @bluefavorites stfu, If I wanna call someone illiterate, I can and whose gonna stop me? nobody. Fuckin retard look I did it again.

  • @makeupisglam233 Go ahead be rebellious, don't feel so mighty high calling someone "dumb" though. By the way *who's, not whose. "Whose" is an adjective describing a possession. Oops I did it again, guess I'm not the only one playing Britney.

  • @bluefavorites Fuck you bitch.

  • @makeupisglam233 Cursing like a sailor, as you always do.

  • I wonder why your hair smells like chemicals afterwards. I've never had that problem. I did read that the neutralizer should sit on the hair untouched for a couple of minutes. Also, since the relaxer is not just on the surface, but really penatrates deeply into the hair shaft, it may take btwn 15-45 mins. to properly remove it from the hair. This is part of the reason why I started doing it myself at home b/c salons never allow this much time for relaxer removal/neutralizing. I can take my time.

  • Your natural hair is gorgeous!

  • whoops i mean after not afe lol

  • u cant braid your hair afe a relaxer, it breaks off your hair!!

  • why do you get a perm ...u got good hair girl

  • @makela1647 "good hair"?! lol, people still say that? how dumb...

  • Not

  • what the heck is wrong with you getting a relaxer. ur hair is nice and the length is awesome

  • NEVR PULL!!! if you read the instructions they will tell you this

  • your hair turned out nice, I don't relax my hair, but this was a good video to watch.

  • Your hair came out great and your so pretty keep up the great work. Your video was easy to watch and not boring like some relaxer video's I've seen.

  • You don't need a relaxer.

  • Hey I know this video is old now but check out my videos to see my hair. It's not tough Afro hair but really soft. I want to relax it and make it straight. Obviously having less hair and what not would make this more difficult right?

  • Ur really pretty girl!

  • Thank you so much! Very helpful and insightful. Ending was funny.....don't publicly work out for the next few days.....Lmao!

  • I truly am glad you posted the mixing directions and cup measurements - the single use relaxers don't have directions/instructions so I have a kit that I don't know how to mix properly for normal so I was afraid to use it. Thanks thanks thanks!!!

  • Might i recommend using an application brush next time you relax? it will allow you more control of the product.

  • you don't work out...

  • @yochimitso what ?? shut up shes gorgeous!

  • when you washing it out do you wash it with the neutralizer then your shampoo then condition or do you just neutralize then condition?

  • how many weeks post relaxer were u in this video? =]

  • i bought a product which is a hair relaxer extra strong, i am afraid to apply it diectly because it might cause breakage or burns to my hair. what do i need to mix this "strong hair relaxer" product to make it milderr hence i am going to do it at home.

  • She did a really good job relaxing, but I am wary of no-lye relaxers, because they made my hair super super dry. And I don't miss that odor either. FYI, I now use lye relaxer 50/50 mild and regular blend. And there is no smell.

Also, it won't burn if you base your scalp and apply it quickly.

  • ur so pretty

  • you need to go to a salon

  • ur hair is so pretty before u relaxed it and of course after too :)

  • your freckles are adorable

  • URE Beautiful :-) thank for making this video! x

  • this is so wrong !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • aw, i love her freckles.

  • i think you should take a fine tooth comb and part your hair in four parts then with in those four parts its would be ways easier to wrk with and you should use the bck of a comb and smooth the har straight so the relaxer will take to your hair faster n better

  • You are a lovely girl!!! I do think that the new growth that you are relaxing is sooooo beautiful. Just an opinion, but I like your natural unadulterated curls best. I'm a mixed girl too, so maybe I'm biased. You certainly look beautiful both ways, Just my preference =)

  • I have been thinking about using that relaxer. So it dose not relaxer your hair straight?

  • ur pretty

  • u r very very beautiful. u resemble raven symone alot.

  • i love your freckles :P

  • you are very pretty and I like your eyeshadow

  • OMG! You have the same name as me! how do you spell it?

  • applying with a applicator brush would be best also

  • Her hair is texturised not relaxed relaxed hair will give you straight hair there is a difference

  • Omg! i hope no one does this, cause others might get damage hair from this tutorial. Well we live and we learn. Beautiful hair though.

  • your supposed to grease your sculp and aroud the perimeter of your hair to avoid burning. ;-)

  • i believe that a relaxer doesnt always damage ur hair, i have a really good 1 and the condition is so much better! and when it goes back to normal again its still in pretty good condition. i think u just need to use the right one.

  • your hair is beautiful naturally, you dont need to relax. Don't take offense please, I just think you are pretty naturally. youre gorgeous and so is your hair :)

  • your newgrowth looks pretty have u considered going natural? your relaxed hair is still pretty though

  • why did you relax your entire hair?

  • the smell I heard is SULFUR. The relaxer replaces the sulfur. But if you have that issue take adice from others who have relaxed. I use Apple Cider vinegar diluted with distilled water. It will further neutralize after you shampoo but I wait three days?

  • my sister use to do this it smells like sweet eggs lmao !

  • Okay hold on. I was with you until you said you went to rinse out your hair in the shower. Okay how did you manage to do that? If you were washing it in the shower didn't the chemicals from the relaxer get on your skin? Doesn't it burn your skin then? :-)

  • yu have nice teeth:) !

  • what neutralizer shampoo do you use? so from what you did, i guess i dont need to follow all 4 steps.like the 1st one...i have that box. what else did u use besides it? thank you you re very pretty

  • what neutralizer shampoo do you use? so from what you did, i guess i dont need to follow all 4 steps.like the 1st one...i have that box. what else did u use besides it? how often do u relax? thank you you re very pretty

  • hey ur normal hair is really beautifull...dont relax it....

  • hey there.i just purchased this whole products. My hair is natural and soft.what kind of neutralizer shampoo do you use?

you know how they have 4 steps, you didnt follow step 1.are they necessary really?

    im kind of scared.lol

should i leave it for 13 min or less?

  • my room mate relaxes but she "greases here scalp" with grease prior to relaxing this protects her/scalp/body/skin from hazards of cancer

also she applies grease to the relaxed ends

this doesn't allow the odor to remain -- after the process is over

  • nubian girls are so so so sweet . you guys take the time to help each other out with tips and so forth in other culutures this seldom takes place

you guys are some of the true sweetest girls on earth

  • I use a mix of Apple cider vinegar and distilled water to get rid of the chemical smell. But I wait a couple days.

  • sloppy sloppy! This is a dangerous "tutorial." This video is the reason people should go to a professional.

  • Hi oBoston ...

I am very shocked you only wash two times after a relaxer, ESPECIALLY with the amount of hair you have. You need to wash at least three if not FOUR times .... the first two or three times being with a Neutralizing Shampoo. Last shampoo with Creme of Nature and a finishing product called Stabilizer Plus by French Perm ... you will have no residual odor and VERY lustrous, silky hair. Then proceed with your leave in and styling ...

Just a guest passing by ..

  • i love your freckles!!! adorable & gorgeous!

  • ooh honey, u puttin it right ON your scalp- not a good idea lol

  • HOW COME U RELAX UR HAIR IN THE FIRST PLACE? IT LOOKS LIKE ALL U WOULD HAVE TO DO IS BLOW DRY IT W/ A COMB ATTACHMENT AND THEN FLAT IRON IT? BUT UR HAIR CAME OUT NICE ANYWAY

  • U r so beautiful! :-)

  • i love freckles of darker skinned girls i have them too

  • Is there anywhere online where I can buy just one application of Fiberguard?

  • Good Video! And I Know What You Mean About The Chemical Smell Also...I Do Hate It But After A While It Does Go Away...=D

iHave to admit I do HATE getting perms because it is time consuming but I guess it is worth it after wards when you have straight hair. =D

  • You're so pretty!

  • after you relaxed it you cant wash it for 2 days ? Or can I do training ?

  • thank yoiu for doing this video!

i have curly hair & i wanted to relax it but i had some doubts about doing it, but thanks to you i am confident that it will turn out great (w/the help of my mom, haha)

    thanks a bunch.

  • hey! I used you no parting perfect method. It worked great! Thanks for sharing!

  • you look like you were tex laxing it! ... but i will copy your gloves techique - last time i used my hands no gloves! hands were sore and dry afterwards...

  • whats your opinion on lye relaxers?

  • why does your hair stay curly even after you have relaxed it??

  • I have a 2nd question too. I haven't had my hair relaxed in about a year and I have had it braided and all sorts of different styles and my hair has gone back to the normal afro hair and I have no damaged hair anymore If I use relaxer do I go over all of the hair or just new growth ?

  • If you buy cheap relaxers would they work just as good?

  • How often do you relax your hair, cause its so pretty i see you don't even need to relax it. and thanks for the information. and your hair looks great!

  • AFFIRM IS THE BEST OF THE BEST

  • wow! you have beautiful hair, however, i have never seen anyone use a relaxer so carelessly.

  • Johna can you please give your opinion on lye vs no lye relaxers, which one you prefer and why?

  • @oBostonLvr "It is worth it to have straight manageble hair", applying chemicals to your hair and scalp is worth it..? you should learn to just care for your natural hair, Im not knocking people for relaxing their hair, but you look like you have beautiful hair and Im assuming the bottom of your hair is somewhat natural, its pretty, Im transitioning to natural and its the best decision I've made thus far,not to add theres several products to help manage your naturally curly hair

  • have u ever used a hair straightner??? can u make a video on that??

  • girl your hair looks really good : )

  • Wow i love the results! i like your hair! It looks as if your hair ( the new growth) is really delicate and soft. What is the ph level of the relaxer you use? I have somewhat of a similar texture but a little more coarse than yours and I am always worried about relaxers being too strong and breaking my hair.

  • I think you're really pretty =) especially your eyes and freckers.

  • I strongly recommend that you thoroughly rinse your hair with water for at least 3 mins before you start using the neutralising shampoo. U need to shampoo at least 3 times and u will not have that chemical smell. That smell is saying that your hair cuticle has closed with some of the relaxer still locked in.

  • Hey..ur hair is beautiful n u don't need to relax it...chemicals are bad for ur hair...jus let ur hair be natural

  • I have a question.I want to do a relaxer but I do not want bone straight hair. Iwant loose curls like yours and am confused about how to go about getting them.I tried leaving the relaxer on for a shorter than recommended period of time and was left with puff and frizz underprocessed hair.I'm wondering how you go about relaxing your hair with out making it straight to the point it no longer curls?do you relax it the instructed time period and then after days it just begins to curl up again?

  • Also I realized you did not part your hair in four and start from the 'coarse' part to the 'fine' part. I've been relaxing my hair myself for a long time it's best to part in 4 and move quickly rather than just 'slapping' it in ; you get a better relax and you don't over process the hair. Anyways good luck, keep learning that's what YouTube is for.

  • Thank you for watching and commenting. In response to your comment, this video is called "How I Relax My Hair" and that is exactly what it is. I never mislead anyone or claimed that this was the "correct" way to do it. I have tried everything you and others who have commented have mentioned at one point or another over the 11 years I have had my hair relaxed and this method yields good results for me. I never claimed that this was the 100% perfect textbook way to relax hair.

  • I only made this video after many many many requests from people who wanted to see absolutely everything I do to my hair because they liked it or were curious. As always, if you want to make sure to get professional results, I recommend you go to a professional, not YouTube.

  • if yu want hair that is easier to manage but can still get curly without the force of a braid, yu should use a texturizer.

  • if you're natural and you get a moisturizer, does that mean you'll no longer be natural? what would you call that? and is a texturizer like a relaxer?

  • @tdottchickk you're SUPPOSED to moisturize your hair, moisturizing it has nothing to do w/ it being relaxed or natural. a texturizer is the same thing as a relaxer, just a little milder.

  • Can you use this product if your hair is colored?

  • my hair is straightened with a flat iron and i was wondering if i could still relax it the way it is?

  • PLEASE Make sure you use a Neutralizer Shampoo with your Relaxing Product!

Neutralizer COMPLETELY removes the chemical (Relaxer) In the shower, it STOPS the product from working, if you don't do this, the chemical remains in your hair, & just keeps relaxing... Take it from me, I had a VERY bad Experience -- I got dizzy In the shower, and Half of my Hair FELL OUT. Please DO NOT forget to buy a Neutralizer with your Relaxer.. It's extremely important, shampoo will NOT completely remove Product.

  • I Do this On my Own hair also. I use the Revlon Hair relaxer Kit, I get from Sally's Beauty Store. I've been doing the same thing for about almost 10 Years Now. A Good tip to keep it from getting on the sensitive areas, I use Vaseline, or a Conditioner On the Ears, Forehead, and along the Neck, where product would fall to. :-) <3 Your Videos oBostonlvr!

  • on the days u do not wash your hair do you condition wash it?

  • ur cute but stop relaxing that shittt b4 it falls out

  • Your really pretty! I like your hair. (: So you relax your hair but dont wear it straight... correct?

  • i dnt gt relaxer on my tips i jus do the roots but keep doin ya thang

  • Wow!!! How do you relax ur hair like that???

  • this is how relaxed hair should look. it should still have some curl. it shouldnt be BONE STRAIGHT like how most black girls do it. relaxers are suppose to RELAX the curl not straighten it. some girls damage it FURTHER with pressing combs and flat irons and they wonder why it doesnt grow or why it wont curl back up !?

  • totally true

  • @nikirylee I believe that comes in to account only with a texturizer

  • @nikirylee Well Actually The Longer You Leave It In The Straighter It Gets So Apparently These Black Girls Know What They Are Doing Because If You Think About It They Want It Bone Straight Otherwise They Would Use A Texturizer Which Is Made 2 Straighten With A Slight Curl !!!!!!!

  • can you work out and wash your hair the very next day after you relax it?

  • Oh God no!

  • Cool :D

  • you're so pretty =)

  • It is so vitally important for anyone watching that has not relaxed their hair before to understand that:

    1. It is crucial for the health of your scalp to BASE your scalp before applying relaxer

    2. It is important not apply (or rub) relaxer into your scalp/skin

    3. You MUST use a shampoo that specifically says that is a neutralizing shampoo so the chemicals from the relaxer stop working

I am glad your scalp and hair look great, but I'm nervous someone could really hurt themselves

  • These are things one learns over time. Your methods are a good starting point. People need to pay attention to their own hair & make changes.

I was surprised you don't base your scalp & that you only use the neutralizing shampoo 2x. I have to do it at least 5x to get all the chems out (guru pointed this out). If you smell chems afterward, it seems they're not neutralized. I'm surprised your hair is long & healthy. I'm glad it, but folks might alter their routine.

    Thanks again!

  • Like you, I can feel my texture better with fingers than with a brush. I just don't have the same control or sense of texture with the brush.

I also discovered that parting in 5 sections works better for me than the 4 in most relaxer/dye instructions. My hair is very thick and dense, especially at the crown. Also, the back burns like crazy. So it works best to do the crown in 2 sections, the front in 2 sections and then the back section quickly.

  • Also, lye relaxers work better for me -- my hair is healthier, straighter, more manageable and grows better. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to afford a pro the last 2 years and switched back. My guru said my old brand was among the best for my hair type Soft and Beautiful. After they discontinued the pre-relaxer treatment, I started using their kids version, which still has it. As soon as I'm working again, I'll switch back to the lye formula Affirm.

  • When I tried to stretch to 12 weeks, I had breakage from 7 weeks onward and it was miserable. I also couldn't wear it curly because nothing would tame it. I finally put 2 and 2 together -- breakage is usually from the tension between the virgin hair and the relaxed hair. So, even though the common wisdom is to stretch, I was losing gobs of hair everyday, just detangling in the shower, forget blowing it out. Once I relax, the breakage pretty much stops.

  • Like you, I was just trying to loosen the texture to make it manageable and I loved rockin' my curls. I can't go all-natural. I had a short natural for a decade, but when it gets over 1 inch, it ties itself into knots -- both individual hairs groups of hairs knot together. The only solution is to cut them apart. This doesn't happen with relaxed hair until another .5-1 inch of new growth.

  • Thanks for sharing what works for you. Everyone should keep that in mind -- their experience will differ, because their hair may be different in texture, rate of growth, coarseness, thickness, etc. For example, even my hair guru who helped me nurse back triple processed, non-neutralized hair from an emergency pixie cut to shoulder length and healthy, seems to have been wrong about lengthening the time between relaxers. She told me to go for 12 weeks, when I'd been relaxing every 4-6 weeks.

  • whats the point of you "chemically straightening your hair" if your trying to get it curly? they have specific perms for curling your hair ....

    i dont get it lol

  • I believe she applied this relaxer to lossen the curl pattern that she already has. It's called texlaxing- the hair isn't bone straight but you still have some of the curls you had before you relaxed.... easier to manage also( IN MY OPINION)

  • Finally someone with freckles on youtube.. haha! I couldnt find anyone with mskeup tips

  • lmao mine smells like egg! ugh, i hate it!

  • u have really nice hair

  • I noticed you didn't base your scalp or hairline with anything to protect it?

  • this is a cool tutorial for those in need of a relaxer your a great teacher on things like this . enjoyed viewing

  • u r lookin like an asian african gurl!

  • great tutorial!

  • What type of hair do you prefer f or relaxing.

  • thats not how you put in relaxer your suppose to part the hair in four sections to prevent over processing. not to be rude but these aren't good tips.

  • However it is fastest for you is how you should do it to prevent over-processing. I've done it both ways.

  • @JishDC

Do you have a video with any tips?

  • hahaha "dont eat it!"
