@trancaothai KDE SC 4.4 has a different wallpaper than in the video because the video was recorded, pre-beta. The wallpaper you see is default in KDE SC 4.3.
I've updated Kubuntu 9.10 to KDE 4.4...so far no problems, I'm loving it...
I kinda wish KDE 4.4 had something similiar to STasks, as I had STasks but plasma crashes, and I've heard that Fancy Tasks, STasks, and Smooth Tasks makes plamsa crash :\
I tried KDE SC 4.4 earlier, and I have to say that I was totally amazed, I consider myself a Gnome guy, but now after playing with KDE, I'm starting to think about a switch, I dunno if I can do it, but I'm seriously thinking about a solution!
gnome rocks, no contest. however I am using kde 4.4.1 and no crashes up to now. I think you should try it again when 4.4.4 comes out. since you know the 3 decimal versions do not bring new features but bug fixes(stability)
Looking at a lot of the comments, I'm starting to get frustrated with the naivety of comparing KDE 4.0 and Gnome 3.
KDE 4.0 was a re-write and port of every single application to Qt 4. I'll repeat, EVERY SINGLE APPLICATION required re-writing and porting, including several underlying technologies such as KParts and Kio. Then, on top of that, they took areas that were inherently flawed and changed them into things never attempted before.
Gnome 3: new panel, new window manager. Job's a good'n.
Aurorae comes with 4.4 and you can download themes from inside SystemSettings>Appearance>Windows>Aurorae Decoration Theme Engine. Someone has done an Air-Oxygen theme.
I dont really care about graphical effects anymore, KDE has enough already, all I really care right know are the bugs and glitches, just fix em, then keep adding features, but please, fix that first!
Bugs do get fixed and a lot of them. Depending on the bug, The graphics drivers and Xorg can make KDE4 "glitch", also the KDE devs still have to report Qt bugs like everyone else.
I like some KDE apps (KTorrent is great) but the plasma desktop is still in a shocking state (even up to SC 4.4 RC).
It's unstable and crashes frequently. Few of the plasmoids have any utility. Resizing the taskbar is a disaster. The "toolbox" is a weird hangover from 4.0 they still haven't removed. There are numerous obvious graphical glitches throughout.
Is there going to be an RC3? Normally up to RC2 I think(?)
Re-reading it, my post is a bit strong, I think SC 4.4 is lost, but SC 4.5 must be just stabilisation and bug-fixing. Comparison with KDE 3.5 is inevitable, and deserved, so I fear for the KDE team if they don't get it SC 4.5 stable and settled.
I have a question for you ... I have not seen any window menu bar on any application {Dolphin for example}. What did you did with it? Its only a personal arrangement or it comes by default with kde 4.4 .
If it's a personal arrangement how do you use the window menu bar items?
Kde 4.4 is nice I expect the proxy settings bug to be solved on Kubuntu Lucid ;)
@elmoretto it is stable enough, in my opinion. if there is something inconvenient, you will find out quickly and switch it off, but, plasma is really very stable
As a long-time Gnome user, I'd like to complement the KDE 4 team on putting together a really superb desktop environment. The window grouping feature alone makes switching a tempting proposition.
I'm not trying to dissuade you from switching or trying (I use KDE and love it, personally) but I just thought I'd tell you that if you use Gnome w/Compiz for desktop effects that you have window grouping already. You'll need the Compizconfig Settings Manager to enable it though, IIRC.
@GIMPMan1972 u arent beeing fair, u cant compare kde 4 with gnome 2 diferent generation, lets to see what gnome guys will do in gnome 3
for the time we are waiting i sure hope they realese a stable version not like kde 4.0 that was unusable, but from 4.3 KDE is just a God GE , i used to use openbox or lxde but i have awsome computer was a waste of hardware using that, with kde 4,3 + archlinux it runs fast and i have all those cool apps and effects
GNOME will not implement such features like in KDE4 because there are just too many.
GNOME remove features and one of the reasons why GNOME has window effects, is because of Compiz(which isn't a GNOME technology or their window manager) GNOME 3 will be as featureless as GNOME 2 is because that's how they work.
@GIMPMan1972 i cant think like that, i wait i test it and then i talk for linux sake i hope they do somthing as good as kde 4 cause in present time there is only 2 GE, KDE for ppl that like features and LXDE for ppl that are crazy fopr performance

My remarks were valid. Linux is a nice gimmick without much use beyond the things I and others said. Making it a very impotent tool.
Its not an os a normal family can use to replace the windows counterpart or even Mac OS X.
But nice try tho.
