Wow... wow... Marlon Brando is electrifying.... he always manages to touch my soul... no other actor has been able to do that to me. I don't know if there is a word for what he makes me feel, I will always be sad that I never got to meet him, RIP Marlon.
this is tennessee williams 'orpheus descending'. a little later version was made by vanessa redgrave, another great actress. i would love to see this one, or that one, in its entirety, but can't find either one, anywhere!!
Lumet's films showcased his ability to bring the absolute best out of his actors - and with Al Pacino's performance in "Dog Day Afternoon", Paul Newman's portrayal of a seemingly washed up lawyer who struggles with alcoholism in "The Verdict" to Faye Dunaway's depiction as a ruthless, amoral - TV executive in "Network" - Lumet possessed a gift that only a handful of director's had. He's quite simply one of the greatest of all time. I really want to see "The Fugitive Kind", it looks great.
On April 9th, 2011 - Cinema had lost one of the greatest artists she ever knew. Martin Scorsese went as far as saying that the death of Lumet had "marked the end of an era", Spike Lee had praised Lumet for his work on "Dog Day Afternoon", stating that "if it weren't for 'Dog Day Afternoon', 'Inside Man' would never had happened". Lumet was an actor's director and with masterpieces like "Network", "The Verdict" and his final film "Before the Devil Knows You Dead" it couldn't be any more true.
Hmmm...intense & intruiging scene! THANKS for posting! Though this has the reputation as one of the lesser films made from the works of the late great Tennessee Williams, I'd love to see the whole thing just for the powerful cast! And you gotta love that snakeskin jacket! CHEERS! :-)

I thought Criterion already released this a couple of years ago? Is there anything special/new on the dvd?
Superb acting from both. Thanks for the scene.
