I cooked Brussels Sprouts (i pre boiled them in low water first) like this for the first time. and you defiantly gave me the inspiration i needed (and guidance) thank you! Cajun and lemon were key!
I hope my kid doesnt have a bad memory of brussel sprouts... i do marinated them in oil and spices in the new wave oven or sautee them until cooked. Either way, there has to be some fat in there.
I HATED brussel sprouts before I tried this recipe!!!!!!!!! it is AWESOME and I am cooking them again tonight because they turned out so good. I did add parm cheese on top at the end right before serving. WOW.
hmmm...and today I'm editing a very rich Linguine with Clam Sauce video--I guess I've put my heart health on hold--I wonder how that's gonna work out for me? Maybe I'll go for a walk, just in case.
This was amazing! I had never had brussel sprouts, but they were selling them on the branch at the grocery store and I always end up buying weird looking foods. This was the first recipe that came up when I searched. AMAZING.
The only thing I did different was toss with parmesan at the end before eating. I recommend it!
I need to try that recipe! They look awesome. I just got done making some and should have looked for your recipe BEFORE I made mine! Although, I fry a couple slices of bacon, get a fine chop on the bacon, saute the lightly salted and peppered Brussels sprouts with the bacon bits, and then add a some balsamic vinegar towards the end. delish.
Whenever I see a whole one, it reminds me of the boiled brussels sprouts my mom made me eat when I was a kid (blah! I might even like them boiled now...it's been decades since I had them plain and boiled). For this recipe, slicing them reduces the cooking time, but the main reason is because the flat edges will lay nice in the skillet so you can get a nice sear on them...and also, if you got a big knife. then sometimes it's just fun to cut things.
"just in case" is a good attitutude to have during the holidays--that's how you get through it with the fewest injuries :^) !! But definitely give this recipe a try sometime...it's delicious.
This recipe was great...and it did NOT taste like monkey testicles...SCORE! I never had brussel sprouts before and I'm so glad I ran across this video coz I think I have found my new go to veggie. Thanks, Man! Great recipe!
Thanks...and I'm with you--I was never a fan of Brussels sprouts until I started preparing them this way; when I was a kid, my mom just boiled Brussels sprouts (ugh!--but I still love her--and one day I may even forgive her).
Ever tried "Fluffed Brussel Sprouts -- Stir Fry"? By fluffing the leaves, the sprouts can be quickly cooked to slightly crisp, tender, and nutritious. Delicious! Google the topic.
@January6th I hope this recipe works for your taste buds--I love it--I had hamburgers and tater tots for dinner tonight...hopefully I'll get back to Brussels sprouts by the end of the week
Thank you Buck Redbuck, for this very easy peasy lemon squeezy recipe. I have learned one very important lesson:
Brussel sprouts are the bomb man.
I use regular onions, a Habanero hot sauce, teeny bit of sesame oil (<1 tsp), butter (hey, I'm in my 20's), and last time a bit of soy sauce, so slightly different....But I will never underestimate the use of lemon when making these tasty veggies. Good recipe Buck Redbuck.
i did somethin similar to this one, but added mincemeat, maybe not as good for the health plan....yeah, i hated brussel sprouts too, but now im a convert, theyre kinda nutty in flavour
excellent recipe i did something similar last year with garlic and onions and your right it jazzes them sprouts right up, only thing is i boil my sprouts a little before frying takes place.

I've never had brussels sprouts but they sure do look amazing prepared this way. I make my squash the same way except I cut em in big chunks so that they maintain their integrity and don't fall apart and the seeds don't come out. They get nice and blackened and I just add a little pepper and lawrys seasoned salt. I will definitely be trying this if I ever try and grow brussels sprouts... they look wonderful. Yummeh in my tummeh!
That never occured to me---but it sounds like an excellent idea...I'm going to substitute squash in this recipe and have a taste---thanks for the tip! I've incorporated squash into our diet with some regularity, but I haven't yet found a way to eat it that thrills me --although I do like squash in vegetarian chili.

they look like little cabbages and that's pretty much how they taste. I've never been a fan of boiled brussels sprouts, which is a common way of cooking them...but this particular recipe is tasty as hell, and I love it. Brussels sprouts are crazy healthy too.
interesting take on sprouts Buck, looks well tasty..nice one
we always had em whole, boiled or steamed, sometimes with gravy on top,in my family.
I used to get a smack round the heed if i couldnt finish the sprouts or mashed turnip, and often got into a right state over the injustice of it all, crying and stuff, but now im a bit older i really like all that good stuff, even raw!
I remember sitting at the table with my little fists balled up and crying over monkey balls, broccoli, peas, or whatever the hell I was being forced to eat before I was allowed to leave the table...it's amazing how we grow up and learn to love those things...it's as if at some point we're taken over by aliens and our little-kid self is destroyed and suddenly we find ourselves doing things like dusting furniture and asking for second helpings of spinach.
steamed brussels sprouts reminds me too much of the dreaded childhood monkey balls...it wasn't until I sampled the "seared" sprout recipe that I found a craving for them.
