I was tester at EA in redwood shores, and I can report first hand, spore sucks. The creature editor was the best part, hence the download. Save your money, unless you enjoy pretentious, trite, and boring games. Buyer beware!!!

Fair enough question, I like a lot of nintendo and capcom stuff, Zelda, Mario, Street Fighter, Timesplitters 2, Contra 3, Mario Paint, Megaman, I have a wii, it's cool. I think the biggest problem with spore is that there is a shift from "toy" to "game". With Wright's other games, there's no goal, in spore, the goal is to get to the next phase, only to be dumped into "find a needle in a haystack" sandbox. They made 4 crappy games instead of one good one.

No, it's definitely still in. There's video of it in all the trailers. Did you leave a year or more ago? I'm pretty sure that's when reports of Spore being not fun were emerging, so they brought in Soren Johnson and his team to make it fun. That might explain your impressions.

There are tons planets (maybe like 2000), you'll simply have an objective to find planet zork (or whatever). Or you'll have to memorize names and places that you couldn't possibly remeber without writing down. "go to planet zek and talk to the tezzbles" you might remember for an hour or two, but it's going to take you a lot longer than that to find it. In short, they're confusing sandbox play with finding a needle in a haystack. I have nothing against a regualar sandbox type game.
