In an economic sense China is no longer communist thanks to Deng Xiaopings economic reforms which allowed the chinese entrepreneurial spirit to flourish. China is not the grim communist dictatorship you seem to suggest! They are already projecting their influence globally (especially in Africa) whereas India has yet to consolidate its status as a regional power.

GUys go to Fortune magazine's wesbite, they are doing a good series on India's manfacturing industry. Might surprise some, but dont be too amazed to see Indian manufacturing in the lng run beat out China. China is impressive in some ways but they make a lot of junk too: toothpast posining people, tires exploding etc. Indian quality is higher in general.

of course theres a long way to go, this is just the beginning, but realize that india's manufacturing sector has an annual growth rate of 10-11%, about the same as IT. Its just that the international (and even indian) media is just hooked on IT and nothing else. Indias manufacturing base is rapidly expanding and we are not a one-sided economy.
