I have a question about ILS, What does CAT I, CAT II AMD CAT III means, I've heard it has something to do with flying the approach fully atomatic and manual...
I have a question I wish a real pilot would answer. You know how V1 = decision speed on takeoff beyond which you cannot execute a rejected takeoff. Is there a similar concept for landing? Is there a reference point pilots use beyond which they cannot execute a go a round?
@uriahms yes, it's called minimums, i am not a pilot yet! But in training. Usually once mimums is said by the machine one of the pilots says landing to confirm that they are landing.
@uriahms Hi, I am not a pilot but I am a Licensed Avionics Tech. For poor visibility the decision height determined by the autoland category (dialed in on the EFIS control panel) will dictate the lowest altitude at which a go-around must be conducted. Its the point which they must have visibility of the runway to continue with the approach. In a sense this can be looked at as the reference point you speak of.
What da heck @1:13 I thought this only happened in FSX without AISmooth managing AI traffic??? Was he really that close? Thanks for the vid I enjoyed it.
I took the same airline back in 2001 and was allowed into the cocpit over the atlantic. The captain's foot was in the same position while he enjoyed a cigarette on a non-smoking flight ... hehe
@JumpStartation I thought so, but I thought like at SFO the weather has to be clear and they have to be under VFR fiight rules. Here obviously isn't the case..
@Edwiness At SFO the runways are a little closer together than what they are at ORD. I'm assuming they have a waiver to do operations like this, but remember, I'm only assuming.
@qwertyguy76 I have nothing against it, I'm simply stating that within the last 10 years the 767 for some reason was the the A/C type that had those problems.
@Shmacktop putting your foot up has to do with being relaxed and having the confidence in your ability to fly your aircraft. Maybe one day you will be able to put your foot up too.
the 767 i have to say is one of the best aircraft out there, and it has the best safety record, how many times these days do you hear about a 767 crashing? none! i just hope its the same with the 787.
@MMSband737 There's a panel handle on the bottom of each of those panels.......they extend a few inches away from the panel. That's where his foot was.
On most airports in EU pilots have information about status of RWY (wet, dry, braking status). In US we always hear: "Pilots are saying..." which primary is avoiding responsibility of problems :) simply.

I don't think they hiring anyone. LOT have to many pilots and what is much more important, most airlines making alliance now, so they reduce employees.
thats what I thought....thank you! Its funny how if you go to a flight school they are still producing a lot of pilots and they tell people there is pilot shortage haha
