  • Awesome. God bless you.

  • We sound good yall!!

  • sounds great i like it betta wit women

  • I sing this at our school, Fairfield country day in connecticut. such an awsome song! Hopin' to do the drums this year

  • wow, my high school choir did this, but we weren't coordinated enough to do the hand motions while swaying. kudos to your coordination!!! personally, i like it better with women and men both singing it, but it is definitely a fuller sound with the men.

i think the soloist had a little too much vibrato for my taste, but it was still good.

  • I am currently a member of the Morehouse College Glee Club and I know much of the history behind this song. First and foremost, this song was taught to us directly from the original arranger himself. Also, many groups consistently wait until after we have performed this piece so as to gather "tips" on how to perform it "properly," this does not exclude the Mormon Tabernacle choir's version. The choreograpy that they performed, MCGC came up with that and they simply copied us. End of story!!!

  • Music is for everyone. The moment we classify, or begin to take credit for what is a gift to all, we diminish the purpose. I graduated from the house in 85' and know this piece well- this is a song of love, peace and joy- who owns that? If you were to ask Wendell Whalum & Barrington Brooks that would share my thoughts. Stay focused brother- this is no argument here, believe me you will have to stand for something- But this AIN"t it. Go House

  • Briggs...shut up! And its Whalum and Olatunji.

  • Bravo!!!!!!!!!!

  • The Mormon Tabernacle version is more precise and technically skilled. But honestly, I think this one was funner to watch (even with the bad camera and sound). It's just got more soul.

  • How can they be more precise with a song when the director of the MCGC was an apprentice to the man who helped arrange the song. I think they just give the song a more eurocentric feeling, but as for preciseness, they could not possibly be more precise.

  • SDR24...Interesting that you say the Mormon Tabernacle is more preecise and technically skilled considering that THIS IS OUR SONG! Literally! It belongs to US! Precision and technicalities, compared to what I heard from the Mormon Tabernacle is a joke. It's boring and it has no culture. Its so white-american. Everything we did is based on the Yoruba tradition. In addition, soul has nothing to do with it. If that what you consider to be soul, then clearly your opinion is screwed!

  • enautica04 - music belongs to NO ONE. It cannot be owned. You may not enjoy the Mormon Tab version, but to say it has no culture is as wrong as saying non-whites cannot sing Bach authentically. Reverse silliness really. Yorubans do not even OWN this music; it comes from them, but cannot be locked down. Generosity of spirit is an African cultural virtue - try practicing that.

  • Well the rights belong to us...and the rights is based on the music. End of that!

  • I have this discussion with other Blacks all the time, but don't think I could have put it better myself, tenor (and briggs). I am Yoruba, and spent my childhood in Nigeria. Anyone impressed enough to replicate and even go to the effort to ensure that the world hears and appreciates this music greatly honors us-- as much as anyone can be. Would that we all valued and appreciated how much we all are able to contribute. As the Bible says: each has a gift-- but the gifts are for the whole body.

  • This is a beautiful song, and the actual Yorubas *I* know who know it love sharing it.

  • I personally completely agree with TENORBEAR60....However i heard Morehouse sing this piece first years ago like in 98'I've been singing concert music since the age of 12 and if i have not learned anything else MUSIC BELONGS TO NO ONE IT WILL HAVE IT'S ORGIN FROM WHICH IT CAME BUT IT BELONGS TO ONE ...PERSONALLY I THINK THE AFRICAN CHILDRENS CHOIR SANG THE BEST ARRANGEMENT HOWEVER I AM QUITE FOND OF MOREHOUSE PERFORMANCE OF THE PIECE WITH AND HAVE HAD THE PLEASURE OF PERFORMING THE PIECE MYSELF

  • If you have never heard these guys sing it in person you are missing out COMPLETELY!!! I have seen them in concert twice at the ASO Christmas Show and let me tell ya...pure soul these guys put in!!! It swept me off my feet in 06', again in 07', and I can only hope they perform it again this year!!! Absolutely Outstanding!!! The Morman Tabernacle Choir has nothing on this choir of men!

  • Umm... You did catch the part where I said I like this version better, right? So I'm not sure what we are disagreeing about.

  • Know the history of a song before you make an erroneous comment about it. You must not be black nor a Music Major with emphasis on music in the African tradition, because if you were you would know that this was the choir that first performed it and listening to the Mormon Tabernacle Choir they obviously did not study Yoruba culture or music of the African tradition.

  • I was a member of the Atl Symphony Chorus, and my favorite part of the year was when Morehouse would sing this piece at our Christmas Concerts (Wendall Whalum was the Morehouse director at the time). It was great then, and is still great now! No other performance holds a candle to these guys.. If you want a good laugh, listen to the Morman Tabernacle Choir "try" to perform this.. it is laughable! Please keep up this great tradition Morehouse!

  • SIIIIIIIING!!!!

  • i sing this at my school and i though it was sooooooooo COOOOOOOOOOL!!!!!!!!!!!! BEST PERFORMANCE!! LOVE THE DRUMS

  • I was at this performance they were great. The 3rd drummer on the right and the short tambourine guy had the best energy. he was killing that tambourine!!!! great performance.
