i love it when you go trail riding bareback by yourself and its just you and the horse, if you close your eyes (at the walk and you know your horse well) its just heaven to feel the movement, sway your hips in sync, and smell the air around you. its amazing ! your a good rider too =)

looks like fun. and you won't want to hear this but the main things you need when riding bareback is still legs (holding on with your calfs) and a balanced seat incase of bucking or pull you out of your saddle, spookes and other dangerous stuff. looked like fun though!

I think you did a great job. Riding bareback isn't about form, it's about balance. Riding the trot and jump are the best ways to learn to ride properly. Keep up the good work. When you do add a saddle, you'll be a pair to beat!

The horse that I've been training has an EXTREMELY bony and curved back, so riding her bareback is mega uncomfortable!
I rode her yesterday for the first time in 11 years. She was a bit flighty and nervous but we did okay =] I had my friend leading, and we only walked and trotted a bit. Lots of fun though!

I know what you mean about people critisizing you when they probably don't know a damn thing about horses! Your position was good at that height, why not tr a little higher? That's the fastest way to strenghten your legs! Or take you stirrups off your saddle for about 8 months! Been there done that! Best of luck!

Well, you guys looked good. But if I were you, I would be a little more picky about things like that, just because you don't want him to end up bucking on a regular basis. This is coming from a rider who owns a horse who used to buck every single time we cantered, so I'm really speaking from experience and I'm not trying to offend you.
Jumping and galloping bareback looks like a lot of fun. And I think you did a good job! You didn't fall off and that's an accomplishment all on it's own. Beautiful horse.

The shetland is called Prince, or to give his full name Prince Harry Houdini of Truffhillock. He has taken a rather nasty grudge against me in the past few months, I think it's because he is stuck inside coz of the weather!
The other Heinz 57, Mr. Edd, has a condition called cusions disease which is a bit like the the human disease alzheimers. We didn't get on much before he got ill, because a) he kicked me in the face when I was 7 and b) as far as he was concerned I took his girl away from him (my old pony, Sadie, who was tragically killed in a car accident 3 years ago with 2 of her offspring, Truffles and Bertie)!!
I myself have three ponies, 1 is a shetland and the other 2 r Heinz 57s!
1 of the Heinz 57s is a mare, Charlotte, and no-one except me can control, but she hasn't been broken in so I just jump her on a lead, but she will be broken this year!! (I hope)

I know what you mean about people critisizing you when they probably don't know a damn thing about horses! Your position was good at that height, why not tr a little higher? That's the fastest way to strenghten your legs! Or take you stirrups off your saddle for about 8 months! Been there done that! Best of luck!

Well, you guys looked good. But if I were you, I would be a little more picky about things like that, just because you don't want him to end up bucking on a regular basis. This is coming from a rider who owns a horse who used to buck every single time we cantered, so I'm really speaking from experience and I'm not trying to offend you.

I think you BOTH jump great! Lovely eyes on Chip, I can tell you spend PERSONAL time with him. We all need to do that with our wonderful horses and quit focusing on how good or bad we or our horses are. I can tell he wants to please you, and that says everything.

The other Heinz 57, Mr. Edd, has a condition called cusions disease which is a bit like the the human disease alzheimers. We didn't get on much before he got ill, because a) he kicked me in the face when I was 7 and b) as far as he was concerned I took his girl away from him (my old pony, Sadie, who was tragically killed in a car accident 3 years ago with 2 of her offspring, Truffles and Bertie)!!

1 of the Heinz 57s is a mare, Charlotte, and no-one except me can control, but she hasn't been broken in so I just jump her on a lead, but she will be broken this year!! (I hope)

ive jumped 3'9" before with another horse, it was an oxer in a gymnastic of 6 different jumps. so dont go bragging about what you can do and making excuses of why you are only jumping a 2'3" jump, i know people who would kill to be able to do that, so dont sound like a whiney bitch when there are people who dont have the money to even take lessons once a week. just be thankful you have a horse and dont make any more of it. keep your snotty comments to youself

"we were only jumping like 2' or 2'3" because he hasnt jumped much" thats pretty snotty for someone to say, i jump 2'6" at the highest and ive been riding for 12 years but thats because my horse bucks if we do anything over 3 feet multiple times.

Believe me. I am not a horse snob (they are the rudest people alive.) I JUST started taking lessons five years ago and I pay for everyhting myself. I don't own a horse either. I also currently dont take lessons because I cant afford it. SO please, dont say that shit about me.

wow so obviously the best thing to do when your pony's just learnt how to jump is to ride &jump bareback .... i shall bare that in mind when im braking all my youngsters hahah its funni that all the horses and ponies i have broken and taught to jump i tend too get them jujumpinj good with a saddle on first n u need to work on your ponies balance and rthym and shape ha !!!!!!
