  • Well i liked it

  • possibly the most beautiful thing ive ever seen

  • Love the maoris. They are such warm giving beautiful people with really caring family's!!.... I should know im married to one :-)

  • Who cares who composed the music. Not important. The performance is fantastic anyway.

  • AWESOME!!

  • I HAVE POSTED MY 1973 PHOTOS OF FIJI, TUVALU KIRIBATI AND NAURU ON WEBSHOTS. YOU CAN SEE THEM IF YOU DO A SEARCH ON "coopec100"

  • The harmony in that number is fantastic. It's obviously the work of Tommy Taurima. He is one of a very few individuals who can compose maori music like that. Maybe the only one. Wonderful and very professional. Wish other maori groups would perform like this, or be as professional at least.

Can someone post a recording of the original Te Arohanui tour group. The recording ofthe Finale was excellent. Some one out there must have parents or relatives who were in the group.

  • OMG!!... This brings back memories!!! I miss those days.

  • There is another set of videos about the Polynesian Cultural center in Elvis Presley's "Paradise Hawaiian Style trailors. Elvis is actually o stage at the PCC with the maori group for a short while. he spends a lot of time with the Fijian group too.

  • This performance is very profesional, and would have been rehearsed thouroughly. Camera work on the girl's faces is excellent. poi dance of course was faultless..Girls actually have makeup if you notice. I'd say a touch of Hollywood went into this video. Not taking away from the performers, because they would have to be bonafide workers at the PCC..

    Long ago

  • Te Rina, Te Rina Pomare

Taku Hei Tiki e, Taku nei rau'ra'a

    whakarongo mai, ki nga pakiwaitara.

Kei raro kei runga, kia mau. E rere taku poi. Aue ha, aue ha, taku poi porotiti e, eha eha. whakarongo mi, ki nga pakiwaitara, kei raro kei runga, kia mau. e rere taku poi.

Te Rina -- Te tangi a te manu tui tui tuituia.

Kei mara te tarapuhitanga i ana too, too too ana ra. (hakarongo mai) u.... (ki nga pakiwaitara) u.... kei raro kei runga kia mau. e rere taku poi.

  • I have always wanted to sing along to this song! Thanks!

  • aye??? where u get your words from boboi??

So you best be chekin it.. ;]

  • THis is well portrayed!!Very well done!!

  • Awesome. :o)

  • Some of them are usually from their homeland, some are cousins of polynesian origin that dance at the Center.LDS opened the Cultural Center as a tourist attraction to make more revenue. Its next to BYU. People employed there are students of the college, they do keep the cultural part authentic, I have to hand it to them for not getting all churchy, but rather keeping the Pagan dances, the only way the Center would survive. Sometines leaders bend rules in the name of the money god .

  • you do realize LDS or not these kids that work there have their entire education paid for? Churchie or not, belive me I am islander and have grown up around LDS people, but a lot of these kids would not be able to afford an education otherwise.

  • Where these Marrys from?

  • are you for real? maori people are from new zealand.

  • u mean maorii & wat do u mean

  • Beautiful, absolutely beautiful!!

  • i learned the exact same dance in high school from a teacher who used to work @ pcc...awesome vid..thanks for taking it back =)

  • This is good!

  • yeah go NZ! mean maori mean, aotearoa!

living in aussie at the moment, cultureless criminial convict fucks the aussies are, they aint got shit on NZ.

  • Hard out

  • lol. they usually turn to pathetic things that symbolizes their culture like the shrimp on the barbie, or a blue singlet hahahaha..they dont even want to recognize the aborigines as a national culture lol

  • huh what are you talking about???? r u stupid or just dum because you make no sense and what you are talking about has nothing to do with this Im a maori girl and I did exactly what these ladies are doing ahh you want to know why aboriginis are not recognized its because we are one of the only indigineous people that fight back for our land most cultures are not recognized because they dont fight like we do

  • why do you live there? get the fuck out !!! typical kiwi always crying.... go bak home to NZ

  • What a tosser you are

  • One of the most beautiful songs I've heard. When I watch this video after a long day it brings me back to the good things of life. Greetings from Canada!

  • Yeah ! Hey, same from NS, Canada !

  • ka pai!

  • i havent seen that in years man this looks good

  • Here's to the Maori immersion schools and what they represent,

much respect from the Danelaw /(^\/^)\

  • I think it's awesome when people can articulate their history and culture creatively and specifically through dance. Everybody's history and culture is important and I appreciate the beauty of it.

    Talent knows no bounds.

  • wow.. it is really touching when people make lovely comments about this video, not just Maori, but people of other nationalities. It really makes me smile :)

  • That is so nice to see......death to the british, claiming lands in the south seas.

Nice to see native New Zealnders, so rich in culture.

  • They aint from Aotearoa! they look plasitc where they from?

    Tuwharetoa bay bay!!

  • hey do you have the lyrics for this song?!

  • The song is called "Terina"!

You can search it through Yahoo. So yeah!

  • New Zealand Māori consider themselves separate from the rest of Polynesia is because of the political situation in New Zealand and how non-Polynesians would justify ignoring Māori culture if Māori said we are Polynesian. We would then get people saying "oh, you're only one of many Polynesian groups". That's the attitude in New Zealand. Hence why Māori do not identify with being Polynesian - it would undermine the fact that we are the indigenous people given the current climate.

  • Interesting views, e hoa. I can not agree tho.

There is only ONE reason I don't say I am polynesian and that is because Polynesian is a Pakeha word.

I prefer to say I am a tamaiti o te Moananui-a-Kiwa... just like my Samoan, Tongan, Hawaiian etc brothers, sisters, aunties and uncles.

We are one and need to unite as a whanau.

Nga mihi aroha ki a koe...

  • is it possible if u can put the lyrics up so i can learn the song

  • Wow! This video brings bak memories!! Used 2 watch it all the time when I was a lil girl..Used 2 love it!

  • are these all Maori women? or a mixture of Maori and Pacific Islanders?

  • a MIX. At PCC, all dancers are student of the Brigham Young University-Hawaii first ! Then for money they perform at various show and attraction on stage or in the village. Each one can dance in two or more "country/island" show.

  • thanks man,i thought so.Great performance!

  • Yes; actually I am currently working there, I started at age 14 in the nightshow on November 31, 2008. Then was promotod to work in the luau. I love dancing the Polynesian dances, not jus b-cuz i am poly...but because they all are very fun and are my entertainment in front of family and guests.

    PCC...rocks!..

    Do you dance there "teriimataha"?

  • I really like this song. Can anyone tell me what this song is called?

  • This song is called "Terina."

  • Ae tino ataahua hoki.......Mauri ora!!!

  • i consider our language the most beautiful in the world we have no swear words in our language mean maori mean

only one curse saying: boil ur head in a pot but in maori

  • nice to hear that

  • its probably a dumb question but are these polynesians or maoris or is it same difference..no offense meant im just curious

  • PCC means Polynesian Cultural Center. So, they all are POLYNESIAN ;o)

  • technically they are polynesians, but some maori consider themselves a seperate group.

  • unfortunately, they denied their ancestors.

  • I love this vid!I am doing haka myself and i am not even from the islands..But i am half maori, half hawaiian at heart!I wish to one day be able to manage the poi as good as this ladies!!Ataahua!!

  • If the world could choose the most beutifull people on the planet, it would have to choose the maori

  • Mokopuna the only pacific country which managed to keep their sovereignty intact is the Kingdom of Tonga. New Zealand is a polynesian country.

  • Tonga too ;o)

  • man, I love this performance vid...If I feel down I watch this and it cheers me up!

  • WOW! I wanna go there now!!

  • Does anyone know what the title of this song is? I love it!

    Mahalo Nui.

  • Te Rina Pomare. Na Wai Ho'olu'u O Ke Anuenue did a version of it.

  • What's the name of this song?

    It's kind of catchy.

    Mahalo Nui.

  • I love this! Kia Ora everyone in Aotearoa...

  • kiaora to monzilla who says he maori maori are polynesians we make up the southern point of the polynesian triangle Rapanui or easter island makes up the eastern point and Hawaii makes up the northen point so get your facts right...... and maori speak very similiar to that of french polynesia ans Cook Island my family understand alot of eastern polynesian language

  • Kia ora stylishtah...I think I know where monzilla is coming from...technically...YES you are right Maori are Polynesians....but a

lot of Maori..(esp. The older ones) don't consider themselves Polynesian.... b/c the Maori never surrendered to the Pakeha, other Islanders did.

  • Spot on! Technically we are polynesian, but i like many others consider myself Maori 1st. Polynesian 2nd.

  • Polynesia has got nothing to do with surrendering to the pakeha.

  • i totally agree bro i know alot of maori that dont consider them selves polynesian to them we are maori thats it and i live in the biggest maori populated city in aotearoa.

  • this video never getx old!

  • i love this song and performance!!

  • me too xP

  • You went to Polynesian Cultural Center right.

  • BEautiful song and performance!

  • love this vid! anywhere where i can purchase a hardcopy of it? i cant stop watching it!

that second girl everyone is raving about looks kind of like one of my old co workers lol

  • I went there and did that Maori stick thing...didn't realize I was really supposed to throw them;I held mine and got clobbered!I laughed so hard-I thought the poor gal who hit me was going to have a heart attack!I'm going next year with my husband (our 25th wedding anniversary)and PCC will DEFINITELY be on my must-see-and-do list! Great video!!!

  • Tiki faka taka haka !

  • I am glad to see this video has gotten over 90k hits. Very nice music.

I have been to the PCC on Oahu, and they still sing this song, but not the same performers.

Also, I have this on video as well, and now I can enjoy it here as well.

    Thanks for posting.

  • beautiful performance complete by those radiant smiling faces

  • Wat eva ecka0007 loservilll3 wat the hell are you on about u uneducated slime bag get on with your bitch feast tart sluta cunt bitch you make me so angry you bitcha

  • Bravo Bravo! Homai te pakipaki! A big round of an applause. This is great. I haven't seen this type of performance with the sticks for along time. And the music, actions, dancers and choreography is just fantastic. And it's nice to see thin (more attractive and the look like maori models) dancers where the majority of the times, they're all to big. Hope the music can be upgraded to a more modern up tempo beat like house/techno...etc. Well done.

  • What's wrong with big??? Just means that there's more of us to love ;)

  • Wow what an awesome clip. I haven't seen one of those Maori action songs playing with the sticks since I was last at school. You don't see many of that style these days. It's all just yelling, screaming, tongue poking (pukana)and the swinging of the poi's along with the Maori action songs. And the choreography, sounds and action was just mind blowing. Wish this song could be modernized with modern music in an up tempo beat with abit of house/rap/soul/techno.

  • no it doesnt sound good in any of those genres you say just sounds better authentically Iv heard it in all genres b4 it doesnt sound gd it sounds possesed and the hottest chicks Iv ever seen are maori you dont understand you need to have different stages of dance and song and haka it all represents something Im maori myself but people think Im either brazilian, colombian or a really good looking indian chick lol because Im skinny and have a pretty face my picture is on my background on my channel

  • yeah great

  • This piece of music is Brilliant. It just expresses fun, cheerfulness and just pure JOY! JOY! JOY!!! Yes the Maoris in this CLIP are rather skinny. But, that is back in the day where fast food wasn't as rampant as it is now and maoris were more happy and confident with themselves. Voices sound very natural not as contrived as they are now. This is just a extremly beautiful pure sound. Fantastic!!! Does anybody know the name of the Song that would be great and does anyone-else sing it. Cheers

  • i dont care where they are from, wat they lo0k like, or wat they sound like, anybody who wants to share the culture and keep it alive are beautiful ppl, i dont understand why it should matter where they came from or if they are considered "polynesian" or not, watever they are, they are beautiful either way. and why it should matter, blows my mind... just watch the video, and leave sumthing nice to say, cmon now... where's the mana spirit?

  • standing ovation ;o)))

  • I wouln't mind dating a Maori girl but unfortunately there aren't too many in Colorado.

  • They look skinny in this vidoe but how come Polynesians are usually so big?

  • Genetics.

  • Not sure what you mean by genetics?

  • lol cracks me up about people thinking every maori looks the same... we are all mixed with differny blood lines .. but are so proudly repping our taha maori and loving it.. being polynesian as we migrated accross the pacific from the islands to aotearoa nz.. and even some can connect thru geneology thru there blood lines back to the islands.. every tribe is differnt an beautiful in there own way .love my peoples!

  • how do they do that with that thing

  • maoris looks absolutely different from Aborigines or even polynesians ..

  • Maori are part of Polynesian people! Same origins

  • Maoris are polys love!!! Like other polys Maoris have mixed with every other race on the planet - no wonder appearances have sometimes changed markedly. Blimey I thought peeps had learned so much more with world travel being such a common thing nowadays!

    Goes to show!

  • Maoris are Polys!!!! With access to the internet, tv & world travel nowadays surely it's obvious people have become more & more intergrated - unless of course there are still those in blissful ignorance of the rest of the world.

  • wtf maoris look different from polynesians?

    wtf

    they are polynesians

  • wow, these Maori are really good looking! and skinny!I mean those girls are actually really beautiful and have good teeth! whats happened now?????

  • Amazing what refraining from fags, booze & dope does for a person!! Not to mention good diet. All people are born beautiful but lose it along the way for various reasons!

  • Is this your attempt to be a dry racist? good one, son.

  • Fat or skinny our people are always beautiful.

We look so alike to our cousins from the Cooks and Tahiti. I've often been asked if I was a Cook Islander...I ask why...and they say "its coz of the accent you speak Māori with". And then when I meet a Cook Islander they go "oh, nō Ta'iti mai koe 'inē?" lol I have to go - kāre au nō Ta'iti, nō Aotearoa kē au.

  • Wheres the electric gitar?!?!?

  • ????

  • Why cant polynesians be like this now a days !!

  • mayb coz they wer neva lyk this! this is a cheesy, 'brady bunch' show put on to make ignorant white peope smile and feel cozy inside.

  • :(((

  • sorry, didnt mean to offend. I like the performance, its great! I just didnt appreciate shadydoll89's comment.

  • hahahaha

  • Man I haven't seen this video in years! This was old school PCC. Thanks for the vid.

  • yeyyaaaa.......

Malo lava.. Free advertising ..hehe

  • I know a whole heap of people that would of been interested but unfortunately your over there and I'm over here.

  • :O i bet Drumline got some of their moves from this

    its hella cool

i love the sound of it .. so tropical

  • polynesian is more similar to malay people than micronesian or melanesian

  • Actually, after doing research, it appears that Micronesians are a lot more like Malays. They're more recent arrivals to the islands from the Malay archipelago and have the most similar physical traits- smaller frames, straighter hair, more Asian like facial features.

  • Malays, Micronesians, and Polynesians are all Austronesian and all have the same common ancestors.

  • I know that. My initial question was, if people can tell micronesians and polynesians apart. It appears that Micronesians are more similar to Malay in appearance and language than Polynesians are.

  • Yes, I would agree with you there.

  • The two girls in the middle are smoking hot.
