  • oh right i did think it may be war time liverly, and can i just say if i offended anyone i do apologize, cant wait though till she goes green again. i saw her just b4 she went of for restoration, i was at primary school at the time and my dad booked me the day of so i could and see her at westbury, id say she running on her last legs as their was a diesel at the back helping out. anyway its nice to see she be back on the rails

  • @rockhaloschool Not really on her last legs at all. Part of the course, that some rail tours have to have a loco on the rear. Usually for doing shunting moves etc at the tours destinations, etc.Or in the case of one we was on last year, the loco taken off the rear & put on the front due to the leading loco having a fire.

  • WTF, why is she matt black and no longer 4472, they have buggerd up the best and the most famous locomotive in the world, was it rebuilt by chavs, they paint all their stuff matt black. this isnt cool. i think they should even restore her to how she should be or we need to steel her and show them how it should be done

  • @rockhaloschool Right, hold your horses!! Scotsman hasn't always carried the Apple green livery. What the NRM have done is to show scottie in it's WW2 livery, & good on em for doing so too! Gives us all a chance to see how Scottie looks in this livery. The restoration is being done right & very throughly this time & not by chavs!! This WW2 livery is only temporary. Once the final work is done on scottie, & the shake down running in turns done, it'll be going back into green livery

  • I wish that would at least run her with 60613. In apple green they look great together.

  • @justindw199 Or in the current livery Tornado is in now.

  • they should have kept it green and 4472, that is what is famous for

  • @masterdoctorten Actually i'd like to see scottie in the various liverys it's carried, not just the one it's well known for. So top marks to the NRM for doing this temporary repaint into the ww2 war time livery. Rest assured it'll be back in the apple green livery once the repairs are complete.

  • I used to love Steam Trains when I was little, and I still do!

  • Cool. As comments set to pending approval, you only have to post once. Comment will always appear once i've checked them, cheers.

  • I am not normally a crying person even at funerals, but this engine moved me to tears, i was there when this engine was on display and it was one of the best moments in my life.

  • Think it's done that to a few folk over the years, roll on next year when we'll see her back out on the mainline all being well :-) Cheers.

  • Hello again just to let you know I have subscribed, and was wondering, I know she will be repainted in apple green soon but do you know if she is going to run in this livery at all before being repainted?

  • @NZtrainGuy Possibly for test purposes, but when back to mainline running it'll be the apple green livery most folks like her in. Many thanks for the sub, kind regards.

  • @ay76 The different numbers are due to the fact that, during the war, she had to have her real number, but the 502 was to confuse german spy's, that's also why they painted the loco's in black and changed it t

  • @NZtrainGuy Many thanks for the info, much appriciated. Cheers.

  • The different numbers may signify important dates to the engine?

  • @miniTopGear Think it's one to ask the NRM this i think??

  • @ay76 The different numbers are due to the fact that, during the war, she had to have her real number, but the 502 was to confuse german spy's, that's also why they painted the loco's in black and changed it to NE

  • Many thanks for the info, cheers.

  • Why does she have two different numbers, on one side she has 103 and on the other side it 502?

  • @SPD1E It's full class number from that period or something like that??

  • When it returns will it be with or without the smoke deflectors?

  • @MegaTrainlover She's back now, more or less. When she's repainted back into green, the smoke deflectors will be refitted.

  • When will she return?

  • @Dinosorable Scottie is back now. 1st run your looking around september.

  • @ay76 It'll be that long?

  • @Dinosorable Yes, as it's got to go through all that mainline cert testing etc, as well as to be repainted into the LNER green livery, once tests completed. As they say, best things come to those who wait :-) Roll on september :-)

  • @ay76 But September is the end of Summer. :-(

  • @Dinosorable Aye it is. But have patience, as it'll all be worth it. After all it's only a couple of months to wait to see it running out on the main. That's nothing if you think how long scottie has been in bits for!! Getting a loco basck into mainline running dosen't happen over night. What with boiler cert's, main line certs etc etc

  • @ay76 I'm just sad that it has to be at the end of Summer, the best time of the year. :(

  • @Dinosorable Don't be, autumn & winter are just as good :-).

  • @ay76 Yeah! :-D

  • Nive livery that livery is very smart do you know if hornby with make a model of the scotsman in this livery?

  • @tpe18509 See the video uploaded after this one...get your order in!!

  • She's coming back! :D

  • @Dinosorable Yes

  • @ay76 But the Mallard isn't coming back. But there's a good replacement for her still running: The Bittern.

  • @Dinosorable Never say never!! Mallard is currently up at Shildon (Locomotion) museum. Maybe one day if funds allow, they'll do the work needed to return it to the mainline. However, Bittern, Sir gres & UoSA will continue to do the honours.

  • @ay76 What are "honours"?

  • @Dinosorable It's the British (english) way of spelling honors. :-)

  • @ay76 Still don't know what honours are.

  • @Dinosorable As above. It's the British (english) way of spelling the North American word honors.

  • @ay76 What ARE "honors," though?

  • @Dinosorable Have a look in your dictionary, for it's meanings.

  • @Dinosorable Just "Bittern" not "the Bittern".

  • @ay76 You can also call it "The Bittern." Like Mallard is also known as "The Mallard." And Flying Scotsman is also known as "The Flying Scotsman."

  • @Dinosorable Sorry no. It's called "Bittern" Not "The Bittern" . Over here it's known & called Bittern. No one refer's to it as "The Bittern". Same with Mallard. How ever with Flying Scotsman, if you refer to it being "The Flying Scotsman" It can mistook as the named train service "The Flying Scotsman", which many other loco's have carried the named headboard.

  • @ay76 Oh.

  • Good Video looks good

  • @D9000RoyalScotsGrey Thank you, cheers.

  • by any chance will it ever be on any lines or will it be in storage

  • @gtacrusher123 It's coming back on to the mainlines, se the NRM's Scotsman website. Cheers.

  • @gtacrusher123 It's coming back on to the mainlines, se the NRM's Scotsman website. Cheers.

  • @ay76 ok thanks

  • great video

  • @uhm121 Many thanks, Cheers.

  • wow, she's looking awesome!!

can't wait to see her on the east lancs later this year for running in

  • @irwellsteam Hope to see her on the ELR as well, if i get chance. :-) Cheers.

  • Great news that the RYTC have requested 4472 to work the York to Edinburgh leg of GB5, lets hope the NRM accept the offer, briliant video though!

  • @BritishTrainVideos Thank you. Think we'll all be out for that leg of the tour :-) fingers crossed. Cheers.

  • Why are the cabside numbers different. One says 502 and the other 103 and why did they change them from 4472?

  • @110samec Was wondering why the cab side numbers different myself. Though the numbers would be from the period of history FS carried this livery??

  • @ay76 its due to LNER renumbering system they had when they were upgrading the A1 locos to the A3 locos, when it was first renumbered 502 i believe it was still a A1 Class Loco, but after being in the workshop to get a boiler exchange, it became 103 due to the number system, hense why when BR took over it became 60103

  • @thewizard99 Many thanks for the info, much appreciated. Cheers.

  • @110samec it's a one off thing to show both her pre BR liveries as it's unlikely she'll appear as either or in black again

  • OMG she is BEAUTIFUL! You guys over there don't know how fortunate you are. Thanks so much for this! (I just gotta get the Hornby version of her in this livery).. My favourite loco of all time...even before Canadian Pacific's Royal Hudson.(which is #2)

  • @clusterfak Wow!! Thank you. As for a model in this livery, i think you'll like what's coming next. Kind regards.

  • why has it been renumbered 502?

  • @tommygrules4life As that would be the running number FS carried whilst in this livery. I'm sure 4472 will be put back on when FS is repainted shortly.

  • very nice.

i think the livery is very nice.

the way the black dully refects the light is buitiful

  • @ThomastheE2engine Think helped by the lighting in the great hall of the NRM. :-)

  • Hey, thought i seen you there, heard your voice and thought it was familiar!

  • @thewizard99 :-) lol. heh heh cheers.

  • OK, I'll buy it. the black is really undercoat for the apple green, right?

    Tell me it is.

    PLEASE.

    tac

  • @tacfoley Don't think this is the under coat?? But due to be repainted into livery we all know so well.

  • there was a black flying scotsman? i all ways thought it was Green

  • @cow2pug Scotsman has worn various liverys & variations during it's time. As seen here, gives the rare chance to see it 1940's war time black livery. Scottie will be repainted into Apple green livery very shortly.

  • she looks good in wartime black, great to see locos in wartime colours, its part of history not just a pretty colour

  • @laservader1 Yes very much so, good that the NRM have given us all the short chance to see it in this livery, before the final repaint due shortly. Cheers.

  • nice footage hornby better bring this out as a oo gauge model

  • @jaannetts16 Jake, your really gonna like what i'm about to put up next, for the video to follow this..... :-)

  • Oh my god what have they done. I thought the Scotsman in br green was bad but this is bloody awful. The sooner they return it to apple green the better.

  • @pjlb2903 Not awful, but given us all a rare chance to see it in this WW2 livery. But Scottie is indeed to be repainted into the green livery, very shortly!! :-)

  • Wonderful, High Hopes for the Hornby model.

  • @itgamer100 Your gonna love what video is to follow this!!

  • gerrin clocked myself in the video getting a shot :)

touther side of turnable gray hoodie at 0:58

  • @class56jonzeyz :-) LoL.

  • @ay76 were u there just fro this or did you clock the northen bell tour and the 37 and 33 tour

  • @class56jonzeyz Just for this, but did see one of the others you mention. Cheers.

  • nice last time i saw it i fully was in 2000 when it came down to the exeter

  • @5029tom Cool :-) Be intresting to see what tours & charters they're planning for scottie, run it with tornado be one i'd like to see.

  • Excellent video mate i cant wait to see it running never seen it run before so i hope to see it when it returns to Scotland i thinks its coming up in September according to the paper i read :)

  • @drs47802 Think 1st run it's doing is from York to Shildon. So Hopefully it'll not be long before she returns north of the border. I've seen it run a few times now. Cheers.

  • Nice one ay76, me and the boys are off to see her tomorrow, it didn't look that busy expected it to be busier for her being there

  • @IanPooleTrains Was very busy, just a case of timing shots & doing some of them later in the day when it quieten down a bit. Glad you guy's are going to see thi history in the making. Have a good day. Cheers.

  • Hui Iain, I did see on the forum they unvieled her on Friday, been a long time under repair, will look better when gets her apple Green back, wonder if they will be back to do the Scarborough to York run...good one Iain....I thought you where up in Scotland this week end?

  • @howarth004 1st run is to Shildon in september, then a case of what ever the tour plans their putting in place. Be nice to be in scotland this weekend, but work call's this weekend :-( hey ho!! Cheers.

  • @ay76 Treble time again?? shall think of you later on when I am sat there with a glass in my hand.

    Dave

  • @howarth004 Sadly no, two lieu days instead. Have another one for us...hic!!

  • Thanks for the musical plug, by the way.

  • @Quaysidepiper Very very good, certainly added to this great occasion. I'll amend the video discription & give you a plug. Excellent stuff :-) Keep up the good work. Kind regards.

  • she look brill, she really carries wartime black really well!!?!

  • @ejcmoorhouse It's growing on me, does seem strange seeing her in this livery. Glad the NRM have given us all the chance to see her in this livery.

  • she is going back in apple green at the end of the year

  • @michaelsutton1u Looks like it'll be back in green by august this year. Full details on NRM website.

  • she's back! great vid iain!

  • @TheLukei :-) you beat me to it, was just about to email you the link for this. Now the big question is, will they double head FS with Tornado??...mmmmm. Cheers.

  • @ay76

the thing is they repainted the tornado to dark br green and it would not mach the fs and we know it, i have a feeling they might though

  • @TheLukei Still be good though me thinks :-) Seen a glimps of Tornado on a video of Deltic 'KOYLI' seen starting up. Tornado was on the left at the end of one of the video clips. Reckon if they do run it, it'll be one hell of a turn out for it.

  • what other engines where they at the time when you went to york i couldnt see past the flying scotsmans tender but there was Evening star and some of the engines i've seen before

  • @Whizzer1 A fair few. Have a look on the NRM's / locomotion (york & shildon) website's for loco list's. Only film FS here. If you have a look at some of my previous NRM video's, should give you an idea of what to see. Don't forget there's the massive railfest 2 event at York NRM next year :-) Cheers.

  • She looks great!

  • @iantrack :-) Cheers.

  • this is truly amazing one of the most loved trains of all time is back on the rails.... and soon to be main-line ready.... cant wait!!!

  • @mrsoouter Gonna be a great day when FS does it's 1st mainline run shortly :-) British engineering at it's best.

  • @ay76 yeh tell me about it :) any ideas if it is coming to the south west? like the Tornado did for the Torbay Express?

  • @mrsoouter As it stands, Scotsman will be doing a shuttle service between York & shildon September 17th -18th. Plans are currently in progress for what tours it'll be doing this year & beyond. Full details on the NRM website. Cheers.

  • before ur credits role there a long haired lad taking a pic of the front of the train. I'm rite behind him

  • @HST43049 Cool, yep spotted you i think.:-) Cheers.
