The Bible teaches with hundreds of passages that the unsaved become their own sacrifice to God because they do not have the lamb of God as the sacrifice for their sins, and thus they are consumed, perish, die IN thier sins (the wages of sin is death, not eternal life in torment), and exist no more. It is astonishing how many passages tell us so, and how many books of the Bible present this teaching. It permeates the entire Bible.
God bless you. "Every Evangelical should believe this"...when I first looked into this, I felt like I had been walking for twenty years with my shoes on backwards...everything worked, but it felt uncomfortable. When I spent a year reading through the Bible again with these things in mind over the next year, it was like putting my shoes on right, everything I had struggled with in the word about God's character made more sense and felt better.
Think of all the Christians burned at the stake from various periods in history, they were physically annihilated, the first death, however they will not taste the second, the anti-christ will taste the first described in Ezekiel, and then the second and that is the eternal part.
The Devil will walk the earth. In the flesh, Correct? Is a spirit flesh? John the Baptist was beheaded, are we to believe he walks heavens quarters headless? The antichrist will be turn to ashes, his body will. Is the anti-christ more than a body? Yes he is also a spirit. That spirit will be tormented day and night. In short a spirit can never turn to ashes.
@excusia The only thing is that "forever" DOES have a hyperbole usage in scripture which CAN be shown through honest exegesis. Jonah said he was in the belly of the whale "Forever". The smoke from the fires from the judgment of Edom were said to rise "forever". Be now the fires are not still alive today. Friend, if your goal is to prove to yourself a doctrine you are already set on beleiving nothing will convince u otherwise.
Clear verses should alway take precedence over theological interpretation. We all know what a day is and we all know what a night is, and the term for ever and ever is just as clear. I don't see any symbology or typology here.
@excusia If we take the language in pure literal sense consistently, we have a contradiction in scripture. Ezekiel 28:12-19 says Satan will be Annihilated, Revelation 20:10 says Satan will be tormented forever and ever. So when exactly did God change his mind???
Ezekiel 28:18-19 Excerpt " ...therefore will I bring forth a FIRE from the midst of thee, it shall DEVOUR thee, and I will bring thee to ASHES upon the earth...thou shalt be a terror, and NEVER THOU SHALT BE ANY MORE"
And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and SHALL BE TORMENTED DAY AND NIGHT FOR EVER AND EVER.
And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: AND THEY HAVE NO REST DAY NOR NIGHT, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.
Daniel 12:2 Multitudes who sleep in the dust of the earth will awake: some to everlasting life, other to shame and everlasting contempt.
