Sadly i didn't have the chance to play DAoC in it's prime, wish i did, it looked incomparable. The only modern PvP game i can think of which lives up to an MMORPG for a PvPer is Darkfall, anyone comment on this? How much better was DAoC in it's prime than Darkfall etc?

Check out Guild wars 2, it is the 1st MMO to try and bring back the RvR pvp, they call it World vs World vs World pvp (3 servers battle it out in week-long battles).

There will be capturing sieges,castles etc :)

I agree,right from thid to BG was fun.I was in Mjolners Wrath,Winds of Vallhala,and GM in Hollers Reapers.Loved the BG back then.I remember defending Hadrians Wall with so many ppl the servers shut down lol.Don't see that now...it's a shame.

I think it's just your nostalgia talking. I still haven't seen a single rational explanation, from all you DaoC fans, as to why DaoC is better than WAR, as you claim. I haven't even seen as to why DaoC is a good game at all.

What i personally know is that in WAR you can jump to RvR right after character creation and have fun with it. In DaoC, as far as i had tried it and as far as i 've been told, you need to level up first in order to RvR... Sorry but for me that makes WAR pretty much superior.

@kozas0 your missing the point of the game son, the point is you learn your class to its perfection so that you can better defend your relm. In daoc a single person is worth nothing people come in groups after keeps or darkness fall even relics. Thoes require guild upon guilds to defend. It not so much being able to do rvr at lvl 1 or 5 because you can. If you know how to get to the frontier zone you can go there at any lvl but you will be killed easily. Its about learning how to play!

@kozas0 You can RVR beginning at any level. The competitive '8man' in DAoC is unbeatable. Each of the 8 people in your group must work together to make a good group. It was by far the most competitive and balanced PvP/RvR I have ever played.

For those playing "new age" and "popular" mmog, this may look like he is not doing much, but what he is doing VERY well is keep his arse out of the melee fight, healing exactly when its needed and not over-using his crowd control (in this game, if you get mezzed and someone breaks it, you are immune to it for 1 min).

The chain wake on the caster at the end was nasty, but very very effective.

Btw I have a mod skin with those same icons still.

Looking back on vids like these makes you realize how slow the game used to be and how much room for error there was lol even though it sure didnt seem like it at the time. Also how low damage was. Was nice that the fights lasted a few mins though unlike today.

Just watching this reminds me of how completely strategical and FUN PvP was in DAoC. Modern MMOs are so disappointing in this aspect. Especially Mythic's latest letdown - they might as well retire their name, no DAoC veteran will ever play a mythic title again. Yeah, a DAoC2 would've been awesome. I have a feeling the MMO market is going to be about high-profile IPs, though. I doubt it's possible in the current climate to launch something that isn't already a brand name, if you hope to be successful. And even then, good IPs fail, too. It's so damn hard to compete with WoW, sadly.

I think games companies' biggest mistakes are taking on big IPs and not investing enough into making a game *good*.

Yeah, you're not wrong, existing IPs did have to start somewhere. However, all I'm saying is that the current state of the MMO scene is not the best place for ANYTHING to "start." There's just so much competition at present, that unless you have SOMETHING which grabs the public's attention (e.g. a known IP), you're gonna have a hell of a hard time surviving. Sadly. I'd love to see something original instead of Lord of the Rings, DC Comics, Star Trek, Stargate, Star Wars, etc. etc.

Old Frontiers is coming back!

The freeshard Uthgard has decided to switch the RvR zone to complete Old Frontiers, they are working on it as we speak. Looks like Origins isn't so far away after all! ^^

Uthgard has a complete classic settings, no real customisations, new RAs and only classic + SI classes.
