Well, it certainly doesn't look like water. regardless of what they were trying to achieve with this. Water doesn't slide around in little lumps of material, it flows and rushes in a continuous stream.
I nevr know if pysics in on or off, in other words. Untill today i don't rreally miss it, i only see my framerate drop. Physx still looks too scripted, see you in 2030 guys.
Well, that depends on your graphics settings, I played it with the settings the game gave me (1024x768 with a mix of medium and high settings) and the game played great on my 8800 GTS with 512 megs. Also for PhysX, you really need 2 graphics cards for optimal performance. 1 for the general graphics & effects and 1 that takes charge only of the PhsyX technology.
well, if you were to know how hard it is for something (cpu-wise) to produce water fx, then you wouldn't be calling it terrible, even though it's not the best graphic game there is.
@orionpk just for some side note info, the 9400 gt "is too low". the _800 series are a series bythemselves. So a 7800 gt would be worse than 8800 gt, but not the 8600 gt.
@PUREOWN the graphic isnt like call of duty 2. and cod 2 doesnt even has physics. And The Guns..... they are based on real ones. so its 100% not a copy of cod2. Cryostasis isnt even based in ww2
Not impressive at all. Console games have far exceeded this. The only area where this outstrips consoles is in lighting and shadows. The animation, physics, and water simulation are terrible.
Bioshock will be remembered as a great game. it is a great game. probably one of the last great traditional style corridor shooters. It has one of the highest average review scores of any shooter. it has great weapons. great powers. excellent and original setting. its fast paced. responsive. runs extremely smoothly on low end machines. doesn't need Nvidia hardware to max out and most importantly it is FUN to play! any true shooter fan will agree!
Games created for specific systems prove that they are BAD games. Cryostasis proves it! It has good graphics but is specific to Nvidia. Additionally, Kronos, a Greek god in a Russian game is totally inappropriate... ahahahah!!
the aspect ratio is wrong causing evereything in the surrounding edges to warp horribly. look at the stairs they are miles away when he's walking down them
BIOSHOCK IS WAAAAY BETTER then Cryostasis, just because is made for ALL gpus. And I finish Cryostasis and beleave me, the game has a story VERY confusing! Cryostasis is only better then Bioshock because, caused me more fear. And that's all. Havok will be always better then PhysX.
wrong, and if you cant understand the storyline don't blame the game blame yourself. I understood the storyline easily and it now sits at the top of my list of best games ever. bioshock is good, but they are two completely different games. stop. talking. out. your. ass.
Worst Comparison? WTF is wrong with you. Bioshock Actually gives you a sense of being in, around and under water. It uses the water as a character in the game to help progression and story. IT WORKS. This is a B grade tech demo at best.
The game itself was really nice and I did enjoy playing through it. But really the water right now is just displaying what we can actually do with the technology physx is developing.
ugh i love this game and all but the lack of multi core support really is a downer. i wish the devs took more time to optimise this game. it still is an impressive piece of work though
Yeah the water does look fake, but you also got to remember this is still in its early stages of development, the technology itself is pretty hardcore :) remember what game graphics were just 10 years ago?
I was wondering can you download PhysX and use it on other games? Is it possible? Would it only work with Nvidia graphic cards or with others too like ATI?
Physx cards take x16, though you might have trouble finding a separate Physx card because they are no longer produced, the best choice would be to get a new Nvidia card with a PhysX GPU built in, for one it has a higher clock speed than the separate PhysX cards and it is better supported via patches, you have to upgrade to PCI x16 for it anyways so you might as well get the Nvidia 260 or something comparable.
I just tried the demo of this, my system meets the requirments, Quad Core 2.4ghz, 4GB 800mhz RAM, nVidia 8800GTS 320mb, and i had to put it ALL on low with shader model 2.0 @1280x1024, and it STILL lagged and was unplayable, good thing i didn't buy it.
Yes any game supporting physx will run much faster with a second graphics card to do all the physics calculations (as long as you have a good processor)
@ Calko240697,I guess from the Tech Demo which only worked on Vista. :) First demo from the game. Not the last playable one, just Tech Demo.
I am a fan of their games: Death to Spies or King´s Bounty The Legend, another good games from 1C. :)

he has a geforce 8800gts and its extremely choppy at lowest settings. like 2-5 fps all the time, and the graphics look so simple on low, i cant understand why the performance is so bad
a bit, but the graphics in cryostasis dont look like a 8800 would have 5 frames per second on it.. its just the water and ice physics that are choking the cpu.
dont think so :) im using Core 2 quad 9400//4gb Kingston ddr2 800mhz//Asus 8800GTX//Vista ultimate 64bit..and i can max out every game and play at25FPS and above..with the proper specs 8800GTX is the best graphics card..2006 model and still one of the best..
Running water partially freezes at -40 degrees celsius. The game takes place in the north pole, meaning it would be about -60 to -80 degrees celsius there. Therefore splashing water would form ice shards as it falls.

AWESOMEEE.... i have a little question here... those physix are going to be avaliable for ati hardware with some kind of stream processing or is it gonna be exclusive or nvidia?
PhysX could theoretically be written into the ATI drivers assuming they can figure out how to implement it properly though its more likely to stay Nvidia only for a good while... You can still buy Dedicated PhysX cards (they arnt as good as a gpu dedicated to it but they work quite nicely.... and pop that in to do the same stuff :)
they should make it so the cloth tears like in mirrors edge.

For the card that's just for PhysX, what lane should it be in? Will PCI X1 work?
dingumfCallofDuty 2 years ago
gtfo stupid
OredhotchilipeppersO 2 years ago
negatron you will need a PCI 16 mobo and a 100 or 200 series nvidia card to take full advantage of the physx and have the best performace.
ProfessorSmirnoff 2 years ago
So I need 2 x16 lanes?
I don't think so.
I'm asking what what speed does the SEPARATE PhysX card need.
X1, x8 or full x16?
dingumfCallofDuty 2 years ago
Physx cards take x16, though you might have trouble finding a separate Physx card because they are no longer produced, the best choice would be to get a new Nvidia card with a PhysX GPU built in, for one it has a higher clock speed than the separate PhysX cards and it is better supported via patches, you have to upgrade to PCI x16 for it anyways so you might as well get the Nvidia 260 or something comparable.
ProfessorSmirnoff 2 years ago
Well actually... New Nvidia cards have PhysX built in... I think its 8800 and up.
AdrianAndHisAfro 2 years ago
Not like I could get a main GTX 280 and have a separate 8800GT JUST FOR PhysX.
That way, it can take off the load of PhysX leaving my GTX 280 for the hardcore stuff.
What slot does JUST FOR PhysX card require?
dingumfCallofDuty 2 years ago
Not an 8800 GT, a 9800 GT. And yes people do get 9800 GTs dedicated to PhysX
AdrianAndHisAfro 2 years ago
Actually, even if you can have different cards, they'll run at the speed of the weaker card.
Not only that, Physx will just run on one of the cards while all the graphics rendering will be done on all the cards present.

The actual game isn't as demanding as the demo anyhow, so you can play it with an ATI card all the same, so long as you disable hardware physics.
Of course, you'll get better frames with nvidia cards, but it's still playable with ATI.
