Good song, bad album. Although I kinda liked Sense of Purpose, and I'm definately into Come Clarity but I still think In Flames was at their best in the 90s and early 2000s. Sounds of a Playground Fading is like a mixed bag for me. It has some good songs like Deliver us and Sounds of a Playground Fading (the song), but most of it feels kinda forced. After losing Jesper they lost a lot of their heaviness. Anders' voice is too clean, the riffs aren't powerful enough and it's not that melodic.

People who say the new stuff is bad are clearly stupid. IF is such a unique band and every album they have sick riffs and a different sound. It only makes them that much more talented. They are really masters at what they do. Listen to a song from each album in succession, it's really cool to see how they've matured and evolved over all the years. When you listen to In Flames too, crank the shit outta your speakers. It makes a big difference when you're immersed in the song! In Flames for life!!
The hate is there because firstly, they ditched melodies and replaced them with shitty synths. They ditched the harmonized twin guitars and rhythm guitar. Anders can't sing and he can't scream well anymore and he can't growl anymore at all. What else... hmmm their lyrics went from profound verses to just more personal strife and emotions, and the last time I checked that isn't in Metal. I'm just glad the drums don't drown out everything anymore. Ewww. And at least the solos are back.

ofc - when you love the style of music they did years ago, you are aversed to the style they`ve got now. fortunately all their albums (including sounds of a playground fading) met my "taste". (anders friden - get back your hair!!! )
@4stringedninja Im not hating on In Flames, I've been listening to them since i was 9 but really, i dont have a problem with a band evolving over time, i have a problem with it totally changing its sound. In that case it's normal to lose fans. There's no doubt the old albums are better.

Actually pretty good! Since their start this band has been ridiculed for their different sound and approach to music. The 1st 2 albums were too "melodic", the 2 that followed up after that were too "slow", whoracle was "ok", colony was acceptable but not as intense as their "old" sound, clayman was too "commercial" and the rest of the BS. In Flames does what they want and have been successful doing it. 20+ years and still going strong
their new music is more "Newcore" aswell as the most metal these days... nothing wrong with it at all, but if I could choose I would choose their music from th album clayman and down ^^
In Flames... like fine wine. All you 'hipsters' who have just jumped on the bandwagon, and feel it's 'cool' to like their older stuff more have problems with your hearing. Just like fine wine, they're better and more full bodied than ever. I bought their first CD new before broadband internet was even a thought, and this entire album and A Sense of Purpose I feel are their best. To each their own, but don't claim the old is better than the new because you feel that's the 'cool' thing to do.

Actually pretty good! Since their start this band has been ridiculed for their different sound and approach to music. The 1st 2 albums were too "melodic", the 2 that followed up after that were too "slow", whoracle was "ok", colony was acceptable but not as intense as their "old" sound, clayman was too "commercial" and the rest of the BS. In Flames does what they want and have been successful doing it. 20+ years and still going strong

In Flames... like fine wine. All you 'hipsters' who have just jumped on the bandwagon, and feel it's 'cool' to like their older stuff more have problems with your hearing. Just like fine wine, they're better and more full bodied than ever. I bought their first CD new before broadband internet was even a thought, and this entire album and A Sense of Purpose I feel are their best. To each their own, but don't claim the old is better than the new because you feel that's the 'cool' thing to do.

@lnfturbo you are completely right, i actually started listening to them when they put out come clarity, then started moving back. there new music is just as good if not better than their earlier stuff, it just has a different sound

From Lunar Strain up until Sounds of a Playground Fading, I could never complain about In Flames... having seen this when I first did... however long ago, I finally have a complaint. Anders looks wrong with a bad hat and short hair >.<
Still, amazing music nevertheless.

I´m not hating on new In Flames, hell, i listened them when whoracle was brand new. But I will say that Jesper´s absence is easily seen/heard, and that´s not a good thing to me.
