I remember this ad from my childhood. Brings back memories. This will make some people mad, but both of my parents smoked unfiltered cigarretes and they both lived into their 90s. I smoked until age 50. I quit not because of any health problems, but because they are too expensive now. So remember kids, don't smoke - unless you can afford them :-)

That Lucky Strike girl is Dorothy Collins, who made a point, later on, to say she never smoked a cigarette in her life. Ironically she died from a non-smoking related respiratory disease—asthma. She was known as America's singing sweetheart of the air and, interestingly, like another earlier America's sweetheart, Mary Pickford, she was Canadian.

These wonderful ads make me want to go out and kill myself with cigarettes! I do remember the days as a young child when smoking was just good clean fun. The hosts of parties or gatherings always put out ashtrays for the guests in their home. I made an ash tray of clay in first grade at the teacher's suggestion. Even the priest at my Catholic church smoked! Yes, for the time ads such as these seemed innocent and wholesome!

Thanks to Lucky Strike I got to spend the first few years of my life watching my Dad die an excruiciating death from lung cancer. He'd cry out for more morphine for the pain but the doctor didn't want him to get hooked on the morphine so it was giving in limited doses. Dead at age 29...what a waste! Thanks Lucky Strike!

What people don't realize, cigarettes used to not have all the bad additives they do today. The only thing in them was the natural stuff of tobacco. People used to quit cold turkey, no problem (that's what many many of the older people in my family did when the cigs changed). Cigs are horrible now. I do not and will never smoke, however, I do believe at one time, they weren't as bad for you as they are now.
