ive been slowly going to parks farther and farther away from home and i have to say that over texas is the best within 800 miles. georgia has it beat.
I freakin love roller coasters, but this one scared the livin piss outta me. I seriously thought I was going to be thrown from the car on the top of every hill. Screw the "air-time" mechanic, it hurts like a mofo...I'll stick with the Titan.
wow! last time i went to six flags over texas it lookd wooden but now it looks steel they did a good job with slapin that paint on to make t look like that
if cedar point would do this to mean streak, just upgrade the track, and put a new element once or twice in the ride, that would make mean streak the best hybid rollercoaster out there. this coaster was pretty close to mean streak before the renovation!
The old Texas Giant wasn't kid friendly -- it was so rough it could shake a kid out of the dang seat. I think it was time for an upgrade, the woodies are classic, but only last for so long. Add the fact that we're a fatter generation than our predecessors, they had to keep up with the times and make sure the ride itself is safe....
I remember our school went in 4th grade 19 79 right when Judge Roy Scream opened, that was THE scariest coaster,my how times have changed. The Shockwave was THE big attraction at Six Flags
You people dont know what your talking about. The tg was opened back in the 90s. It never had a loop. Oh and fyi the Mr. Freeze tracks are blue and always have been. Its like you people yapping bout this stuff never even been to Six Flags before.
@Derrickman82 I think you are confused. First off, Mr. Freeze use to be all blue but sports a red track now and has for 4 years now. Also you are right that TG has never had a loop. It still does not. The wood coaster that used to have a loop that those guys are talking about is Son of Beast at Kings Island, or as they referred to it "SOB" This ride had a loop which was removed a while back and stood at 200 feet tall. It is closed right now. HTH
This ride is gonna be sick. Lol but whats up with six flags and their new liking of red tracks? First mr freeze track got redone all red and now the Texas giant track is red.
@Nickvet419 No it wont happen. Kings Island has poured out over $30,000,000 in maitnence for that ride over it's life. it's been closed for years now. it's signature feature is gone, and it's design was flawed from the very beggining. i most likely see it's removal in the near future.
@cannibalonXthedead With the rumored steal contracts, and overheard conversations, I tend to think differently. I can't see them spending the dough for removal when they have nothing to put in its place. Adding steal tracks would be expensive, but the ride would become a instant hit again. Also, with the faster steal tracks, It would be possible to bring back the loop.
@Nickvet419 the ride wasnt a huge hit, it was rough back even in 2001 only a meer year after the ride was open. Besides it would open the former safari area back up for a new coaster. New rides draw the big money and crowds in the amusment industry, so why spend millions more on an old, dead, failed attraction while they could get a brand new one which wold draw more publicity and attention to the park. there have already been numerous lawsuits and other negative publicity with the SOB
@Nickvet419 although please don't get frustrated with my opinion, i do respect yours as well. i guess we will just have to wait and see what kings island does with it.
@cannibalonXthedead i think giving the son of beast steel tracks is the only way it would ever open again, and it would be a shame to tear it down. Think about it, if son of beast is smoother, it becomes actually a pretty good coaster.
Yeah, i see that really is the only way it could ever operate again. i dont think it would be too much of a shame though, in it's current state, it's just a 200 foot tall ass-massager that hammers the hell out of your back
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
why do they have to do dumb shit like this? the texas giant used to be a cool family coaster. now they just had to go and make it too damn scary for the kids, they should have taken an example from will koch (R.I.P) from holiday world when he designed the voyage rollercoaster for the entire family without having to do the damn vertical drops and loops and the other crap they did to the giant so to me the Giant is truley dead and gone....
@coasterbuff19721 Personally, I don't feel the scariness quotient has changed. While the new TG has overbanked turns, a steeper drop, and more speed, you have to consider the trade-off. Before TG's renovation, it was bumpy, rickety, and sometimes painful. My opinion is that the old version has moved from a physically demanding ride to one that is mentally intimidating.
@coasterbuff19721Are you kidding me?! The Texas Giant has NEVER been a family coaster! Its a thrill ride, and the old one would beat you to death! I rode The New Texas Giant Wednesday (yes, I did. They had a thing for employees to come ride it first.) and it is REALLY fun! Its SO much better than the old one.
@coasterbuff19721 Dude, The Texas Giant was never a family coaster. Also, there are no loops on it. I think you are just upset because it's too scary for you to ride.
@kennyrr They had close down freakin Astroworld down because they are too many old, unsafe, and dangerous rides susc as the Texas cyclone and Greece lightning.
I couldn't watch this. I didn't even make it 2 seconds into the video. I'm going opening day and I want it to be a surprise. This video is just too TEMPTING.
@jerryhdzNtexas They had something on their facebook page calling for cast members for the commercial shoot and because they still have to do catwalks and stuff like that before they can officially open the ride.
@jmekkacon ok I get what your saying now. Do u know the future of the ( judd Roy scream) I figure that ride would go though a make over be for the giant?
@jerryhdzNtexas I don't see why they would be tearing down Judge Roy or remodeling it, as it is not as extreme as the Giant was and is now. I though could see them tearing it down to replace it with a better ride, but we won't know that for a while most likely.

@jerryhdzNtexas To the speed 1) Because they only raised the track 10 feet and it doesn't matter how steep it is, or what material it is, the coaster will still be around the same speed because of how gravity works. It is a bit shorter, but 10x better as there is A LOT of airtime throughout the entire coaster. The 122 degree banked turn is just amazing. The 79 degree drop, you're out of your seat the ENTIRE drop. I know this because I rode it for the commercial shoot on Thursday.
@Epicosity101 When you're actually on the ride (as I was for the commercial shoot) it doesn't really pause, especially in the back row, as you FLY over it. In the front, it is just normal. @Jmekkacon That. Sounds. Amazing. Can't wait to see the commercial and yell "HEY ONE OF THOSE GUYS COMMENTED ON MY COMMENT ON YOUTUBE!! WOO HOO TO THAT PERSON!!!" haha.
@Jmekkacon See, I'm gonna forget by then =/ but since it's you...I'll mark it somewhere on my calendar "Youtube guy Texas Giant commercial =D" lol. So, what were those insane 90 degree turns like?
@Epicosity101 They were....Purely amazing. The 122 on the left side is just WOW. The 2x turns after the 1st drop are just amazing. The airtime & headchopper on the hill below the lift is just amazing. I wouldn't be surprised if we didn't see this coaster as one of the top 10 for this year and many years to come. The seats are super comfortable too and there is a little light for each lap bar that lights up when the lap bar touches your legs. Everything about it is just amazing.
...Sooo...other than AWESOME, what is this ride considered anymore?! Steel? Wood? Both? Very strange...but awesome...does it even have a category anymore lol?
@Tiduszcoasters Sorta. Gemini at Cedar Point is steel track wood supports, so is Excalibur at Valleyfair. This is the first of this company doing this.
@Tiduszcoasters what @Tiduszcoasters says is true, but please don't be fooled by the Six Flags company because they are claiming it to be a wooden coaster, and it's not. To be a wooden coaster it has to have wooden track, and as you can see, this has steel. So it does not break any records in terms of drop steepness.
