  • I am this man's 4th cousin. I think..

  • I am so thrilled by this clip, as well as the absolutely perfect music.

  • Makes a sunday roast taste extra special

  • I Love this song makes me feal proud done 9 years in the army in the cavalry lost some good mates along the way this chokes me up every time good post mate!

  • The unstated Principal Theme to Nimrod is ‘Ein feste Burg’ (A Mighty Fortress) by Martin Luther. To learn more about this intriguing discovery, visit enigmathemeunmasked.blogspot.com/2010/09/variation-ix-nimrod-with-ein-feste-burg.html

  • I can understand why people describe this music as sad but for me the over-whelming sense of pride I feel for my country makes it stir a sense of peceful happiness in me. It's the most beautiful music I've ever heard. Perfection.

  • Its one of thos songs that sounds like somebody is about to give their life for something or someone

  • Beautiful and as heart string pulling, red, white and blue blood pumping as it was intended.Fantastic to see Mo Mowlam as a true great Brit who battled so hard against all adversary to help bring peace in the country she loved.

  • Wonderful! As an ex-pat, I miss it so.

  • I love this piece! :)

  • This song was never meant to be sad. Elgar wrote it for his best friend. Nimrod translates into 'Hunter' in some language, and his best friend's name was Hunter, I think.

  • A stirring piece of English music, but can anyone explain to me how it came to be used on Remembrance Sunday and associated with the Armed Forces?

  • Thanks for this wonderful posting - a thoughtful and nice touch to include Mo in the video - Have to admit I had to wait for my eyes to dry before typing this comment!!

Thanks - Paul Bowden (Isle of Man)

  • an amazing song that makes the hairs on the back on my neck stand up. makes you feel very proud to be british.

  • Its the most beautiful peice of music ever written by anyone in England

  • Thankyou ..

  • Are you kidding me? 25,306 views in over 2 fucking years? What has the world become? At least 5 of those views are mine. I'm an American 17-year old boy. Most of my friends like dubstep or Bieber or Lil Wayne or Lady Gaga. I like all kinds of music from 2pac to Rammstein to Tchaikovsky, but no type of music has more emotion and meaning than Classical music and Elgar is my personal favorite. My Grandfather fought and bled alongside the British in WWII. May the US and Britain always stay friends.

  • @Todo47 Great comment Todo47.. I really appreciate what the USA did in both wars, and subsequently. Sometimes that 'special friendship' may appear strained, but not for me. I have also noticed that when it really matters, it holds together like nothing else before it. My sister is in Miami, and has made the most amazing friends. She has decided to stay for life now. I am planning to visit when I am well enough.. :)

  • @Todo47 so much respect to you youngman, wish there was alot more like you.

  • @Todo47 Are you kidding? On every video regardless of what it is, some jerk throws into a rant about Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga. What a bunch of self-serving elitist bullcrap. But way to preach to the choir, I hope your newfound art cred takes you far.

  • When you first see it, the name makes you laugh and make fun of it but as soon as the music starts to play the name's completely forgotten and all that's left is amazement.

  • Karl Pilkington is a genius.

  • If I ever find myself on the eve of Battle fighting for Great Britain. A single playthrough of this song, would fill me with the strength of 100 men, the courage of a fierce Lion, and the pride of Lady Britannia herself. And would quell any fear of death or anxiety of injury. For listening to this song would remind me that if I were to die, or I were to be severly wounded. I would be doing it in the defence of my Country, under the flag of Great Britain. And thats reason enough for me...

  • I've nothing to do with Britain at all and I'm very much against nationalism but when I hear this music I feel very proud as well.

  • Elgar was a genius to rank alongside Mozart, Beethoven, Bach etc. Ironically it was the Germans who recognised this before the Brits. A German Music critic wrote circa 1900 that the UK has a composer who is as good as the all time greats alive today but they do not know it!

  • Don't worry if you have to wipe away a little moisture from your eye whilst listening to this,it is only your inately British soul rising up in joyous rapture....Embrace it and fly on it's patriotic wings. It's down to us make it great again

  • I'm a Yank it this makes me want to stand and doff my hat to the subjects of the Crown the world over. Gorgeous music.

  • Such a stirring piece. I literally have goosebumps listening to this. Fantastic, poignant and sincere video too. I am extremely proud to be English and this fills me with an intense passion for what we once were and will become again. Neither of my parents are English but both of them insisted on raising us in a way that we were to understand, appreciate and be thankful for the home they created for us in the greatest country in the world. That is the way forward for us. Rule Britannia.

  • Emprisonment? Is that welsh for imprisonment?

  • I really don't agree with putting Churchill straight after the bit about Wales! That man's attitude towards Wales was a disgrace, and he should have been emprisoned for what he did to the miners!

  • Dear patriots . . . plz plz plz stop monopolising this comments section.

  • Young Winston!!!!

  • how yer doing m8,came back to chill 2 this ,hope yer well

  • @Geddaway Thank you so much for your comment. I am from Derby, but have lived in Matlock for 10 years now. My mother is still in Allestree.. I am proud of your history and that of your family. Things may look grim right now, but when our backs are against the wall, by God can we fight! People like your great-Grandfather saved us from Nazi tyranny, and a new terrible 'dark age'... I am proud to be British! Rule Britannia indeed!

    Tony (in Matlock)..

  • Playing this was the happiest 4 minuets of my life.

  • @wierdo1232123 ,hell of a comment m8

  • Ask anyone who knew what made him tick and you realise that Edward Elgar has needed rescuing for some time.

  • Hi!

Could someone tell me the title of a British patriotic song that ends "For Glory, God and King" ? I heard it a long time ago in its choral version and I wish I knew all the words. It's very stirring.

    Thanks!

  • Thanks for posting this...I caught this clip looking for something else....This is said to be the saddest piece of music ever written....great to see the picture of 'mo' included...she was a great person and an inspiration to us all....30.000 merchant seafarers lost by Britain in ww2 and they were classed as 'None combatants'......you could have fooled me!

  • @tony00165 Thanks for your comment Tony - much appreciated, and I am pleased you enjoyed my video.

I share your subsequent comments too..

    Thank you for posting.

  • Just to thank my late dad & all his mates in WW2, & all our service men since. But please don't forget the Merchant seaman that died in droves keeping us alive ferrying food etc back.

  • Thanks for your comment, jacksons1950. I had family in the Merchant Navy myself - their work was priceless, where the survival of our nation was concerned.

  • @Derwentcub So was I . 1 of the last Vindi Boys trained there in 1966. We do tend to got forgotten in the memorials but the Royal couldn't function without us. The Galahad & Atlantic Conveyor in the Falklands War were both Merchant men. We all know what happened to them.

  • any my relatives is a masonic..also my father..but me!NOT YET,im nimrod but im a son of holy mighty god

  • i have to agree with Bubo25. the picture of 'Bloody Mary' was a mistake, after all she did burn over 300 protastants to death, not to mention lhe loss of Calais to the french. A picture of her sister would of been wiser.

  • Great music and great video, except for two things. 1. Elgar was English and Nimrod was aimed at England and the English, so why did you including the Scots and Welsh, who are notorious for hating the English? 2. What's with the picture of the tyrant Mary Tudor? What makes her so great? Not only did she have the totally innocent 16 year old Lady Jane Gray beheaded, but she also put hundreds more Protestants on bonfires! Not at all a person who we English should be proud of, wouldn't you agree?

  • This wonderful music always brings a tear to my eye.

  • Finally found this piece; I always hear it on TV, but I never catch the name, thanks.

  • Very moving. Im speaking as a currently serving member of our armed forces, as can be seen by my profile and profile photograph. I particularly like the fact you have included the late, and very GREAT Mo Mowlam..what an inspirational woman. Many thanks for this Derwent..reminds me why i do the job i do. You've made us all proud.

  • @LCStreetPhotographer Thank you my friend. I am flattered by your response. Yours is one of the toughest jobs in the world, and I wanted to show my gratitude, and to thank you for the taking the time to comment. I had to include Mo Mowlam. I have had cancer, but it was caught just in time. Every day is precious, and I am thankful for that. Mo put everyone before herself, and made achievements no-one could have envisaged, back during The Troubles. Best wishes, lads - I am proud of you!

    Tony.

  • @LCStreetPhotographer nice comment sir

  • Beautiful, man. Makes me wish I was British.
