We went from going to the Moon to not even being able to look up from our Ipods and go into McDonalds for a Big Mac and diet coke. I guess the drive through for handouts is where American is headed.

Mr. Armstrong represents everything that made our country strong and this man makes us realize that that spirit has been lost. As a fellow pilot, I thank Mr. Armstrong for his courage, character and service to this country and am sorry that he had to go through this experience.

I feel bad for Armstrong too for having to live a lie his whole adult life. He really seems tormented from all of this. For $5000 cash, he won't swear to it? None of the Apollo 11 astronauts would. Not only would they not, but became very defensive and upset. The normal thing to do would be either to do it or laugh and walk away, letting the record speak for itself if it were 100% true.

I think the "nobody would ever be satisfied" response is an inaccurate cop-out. None of the astronauts ever say such a thing. Armstrong here uses the skiddish response, "that's probably not a real Bible" to skirt away from the question. There is a kind of human lie detector mechanism (unless you're a trained professional) where people get very uncomfortable when asked to swear to the truth. Swearing on the Bible wouldn't end of the debate, but NOT doing it fuels the fire.

Having someone come up to you and say "Swear on this that you did it" to prove your achievement is one of the most insulting things anyone can do. He explained to me that it is not so much the laying of a hand on the bible that binds you to tell the truth but just the oath itself......in anyways.....I am an Atheist and if I went to the moon I would just swear it on any religious script ......why not?
