i did something similar not that long ago. the paint i used scratched of after a while though. i found it helpful to file the outer surface of them first, so the paint doesnt scratch off easily.

And why don't you blend the yellow, brown and green together at the first time and just paint the whole nail with it? because you're blending it on the nail anyway..
