  • This is the American West in the 1800s we're talking about, right? Good grief.

  • @racheleleeba That's right. Viewed through the eyes of a 21st century director, Nikolaus Lehnhoff, who tries to translate the story into our own age. I don't see there's too much wrong with that. In fact, I thought it was great. I didn't think any injustice was done to the storyline.

  • @visse264 Thanks for your considered reply to my venting. I would love to hear Ms. Westbroek as Minnie, but to me the production makes little sense and doesn't go with Puccini's music or the story. I ought to have refrained from commenting, though, before seeing it. I simply love this opera: the gorgeous music, the two protagonists, the theme of redemption, and the romance of the western genre. It comes with growing up with cowboy shows. :-))

  • @racheleleeba I don't think you ought to have refrained from commenting before seeing it. Everybody can react to it, that's fine. I just think, having seen the blu-ray of this production myself, you could (maybe) come to the conclusion that the production goes with the story and with Puccini's music. On the blu-ray, Eva-Maria is talking about her favourite (typical Western) Fanciulla, a Piero Faggioni production in Covent Garden, starring Placido Domingo and Carol Neblett. Looks great.

  • Thanks but i liked to see tsarina's slippers - with the cast and dancers !!!!!!
