Manipulation should be a last resort. Following a long period (around 6 months) of good quality daily stretching and strengthening regime. If after that is not successful then mobilisations and then finally manips added. People are way too quick to manipulate and it is not risk free.

@stalingrad32 well I had knee surgery and it actually crumbled the medial condyle on my right femur at 22 years old(not that you have any idea what that is i'm sure). The next surgery I had they said I already needed a knee replacement at 23 so I am never supposed to run or jump again because the surgeon said he could "fix me". I worked with a chiro after that and had a lot more relief than I ever had before where I'm functional again. Once again I'll state SURGERY IS LAST RESORT!

@S233630 The issue here is not that the Chiro "fixed" you but more that you were given poor diagnosis initially. Unless you had a severely traumatic impacted/compression fracture I find it hard to believe that you had a "crumbling medial condyle" & I definitely do not believe that you would have been in a condition of needing a knee replacement at 23. I see hundreds of people each month and many of them report being told they have "crumbling" joints.You need strengthening, proprioception work

Fact is the surgeon drilled holes in my medial condyle (called oates procedure) to spurt more cartilage growth because my femur was displaced on my tibia laterally and it degenerated my meniscus on the medial side causing pain. I went through the strengthening and proprioception work for balance for a year but I had constant swelling which still caused a lot of pain and it never got better. The condyle literally got weak

@S233630 and crumbled where I had bone fragments in my knee that I could literally move around with my finger and it locked up on me (obviously with the fragments) and I just went into my last surgery to basically clean it up. I didn't get the knee replacement but I had to deal with a lot of pain afterward and started seeing a chiro which helped my alignment with my femur on tibia which helped a great deal. I obviously did strengthening afterwards but my knee feels way better than bef

@stalingrad32 Sorry if I offended you but anytime someone thinks chiropractors don't help people I take offense to it because of what happened to me. Not that I'm hating on surgery because they can do amazing things also. I do believe people should try alternative first so the body can heal itself rather than jump to surgery for the easy fix because that isn't proven to work 100% of the time. My surgeon was considered the best in town but that doesn't mean he is always right.

Biomechanics means that if you don't keep a joint in full range of motion and with appropriate balance of strength to support it, you'll likely get force/pressure in areas that do not want it, and subsequently pain. Trouble is, people are too quick to ask somebody else to fix them, rather than admit they may have let themselves get this way, and then take charge of it

There aren't enough around and they aren't cheap. I saw a physician for back pain and he recommended me to a chiropractor and the chiropractic manipulations seemed to provide at least temporary relief.
