Can some one tell me if Sandra had an arab ancestor in her , why she named her (group) Arabesque and after her marriage to her german husband Michael Cretu she took her husband name cretu and she end her band .. actualy she was more popular with Arabesque .. does she want to say that she is a german by that ?

@GrrBehr It's true, if you get married in Germany, and you don't say anyhing special about keeping your name, you take the name of your housband. But more and more couples are changing this, and not every bride is losing or changing her name.

@palomamorena2000 Sandra joined the Band Arabesque after the band already existed. So that name was not her idea. Her original name is Sandra Ann Lauer and she was born in Germany. Well it's a Christian tradition to take the name of your partner when married. I'm pretty shure that she doesn't want to say anything other than "I belong to this man" with the choice of his name. :)

@palomamorena2000 She was not more popular with Arabesque, being just Sandra, she became the most successfull female pop singer Germany ever had at the time, Arabesque was not famous in so many countries, they sold 6 million copies in Japan, but Sandra on her own did more than that, believe me. And Michael Cretu was German, but actually from Romania. Sandra started with ARabesque after one of them had to leave the group, she did not name it. With M. Cretu she made a big career.
