The L rods can respond to anything under the ground or above, you can look for water, oil , gold, coal, gem stones etc. It all depends on the dowser , what is he concentrating on at the moment.
Dowsing is a complex phenomenon. Recent understanding shows that the electrical sense and magnetic sense plays an important role in identifying ground water. In addition the subconscious mind also is shown to play an important role.
I am digging a well in a hill side. From the starting itself it was rocky. One hydro geologist located the said point for digging well. Now almost we have dug more than 50 ft. We got a spring after 33 ft. But that too stopped after deepning the well further. The inner walls of the well are wet. But no water. I dont know what to do....
Check for undergriund veins by L rod dowsing aroud the well. If get good deflection at least on eight locations around the well you may dig further or else get it checked from a good dowser.

Thank you for the comment.
L rods do respond to any thing below ground if one tunes to it. It is a standard practice to have water oil or coal as witness while dowsing.
Happy dowsing!!!!!
