  • rufus rufus you brake my chains

  • Well i love this song :D

  • I watched Brokeback Mountain Last night and now I can't get this song out of my head.

The words are poignant, and Mr. Wainwright sings it with simplicity, beauty and power.

    Many thanks for posting this!

  • every single time i hear this song, i cry....but i love this song so much...jackie trudel-lane

  • I seriously hated this song when I first heard it. I heard it on LOGO and on VH1 and it seemed to be played all the damn time! I really enjoy it now after becoming a Rufus fan and knowing the rest of his music.

  • This is an extremely beautiful song. It touches your heart. that's the kind of music that I love the most, something that gets down into you heart and soul. He's a unique singer, truely an original. Best of Luck Rufus

  • I personally love all his music. I am not gay and that doesn't make me so. if you find offense then don't watch/listen/post rude comments. Thanks on behalf of all fans/music lovers.

  • wow.

  • onetrashdancer, I am not gay... I happen to like his music. What does your sexually preferience have to do with likeing someone music?

  • Absolutely Nothing- Its about you and how the music speaks to you. Don't let other peoples prejudice fence you in, Be yourself -we only go around once.

  • You know, I have seen you around youtube before, and I've even talked to you before. I just find it funny that most of the comments I see you in, are for Rufus Wainwright videos. Now come on, there's either two things that could be, you could just be publicly stating your opinion, or, you could be a closet Rufus fan. Neither would surprise me. Oh yeah, and I am gay, is that a problem?

  • I think you're referring to your talentless, dicksucking father. Rufus has a major singing talent, unlike your dicksucking abilities.

  • your an idiot, go make your mom breakfast upstairs you tasteless bitch

does sexual preference make a singer's talent any different?

sounds like you need a life, not that stick you enjoy having up your ass

  • buddy, you are one troubled soul; get some help and quit spreading your self-loathing

  • i'm so lucky, he's performing near me this month . Yes.. i'm there.

  • this is just so amazing!!!

  • wonderful track, this is a brand tribute to Heath Ledger :)

  • awesome song...=)

  • The Oscar for best song 2005 goes to Rufus Wainwright for Maker Makes. What the hell? This song is so fucking good. He should have won, but he wasn't even nominated. The piano that gallops through the song, the painful timbre of

Rufus' voice. This song is the movie.

  • you're telling me ohmercy124... the gallop, the pleading of a guy in love, the further-reaching lyrics of the everyman trying to make sense of his place in the world. scary how good this is.

  • Semplicemente grazie.

  • such a beutiful song

  • such a beautiful heartflt song

  • a truly great song. I love songs that make you think and get your emotions working. this song to me is up there with "everybody hurts and hallelujah"

  • He is by far the best artist ever, just when i was giving up on music he came along and changed it all , beautiful song xxx

  • Man, this movie is so sad. I've seen it a hundred times, and I still can't help but cry.

    RIP Heath Ledger . . .

  • This perfectly captures how hard it truly is....

  • ahhh!! I am seeing this man LIVE tonight!!!!! I'M SO EXCITED!

  • his sister is a great singer too...you have to chek out her abbey road studio episode...abbey roads are always the best

  • I love Rufus!

  • Beautiful song!Love is truly universal!

  • Thanks Rufus for this great song

    I LOVE IT

  • well hopefully you'll be a little bit less ignorant about homosexuality after you watch the movie. here's hoping you get a little bit englightened! :)

  • You said you're not exactally for homosexuality , that says it all really .

  • as a gay man, i appreciate your comment.. I'd find it hard to be straight and pro-gay as tbh, it would be nothing to do with me.. Indifference is better than ignorance in my opinion

  • this is one of the greatest love stories of all time.

  • Rufus Wainright has something, a scratch in history, that mark's a generation. his words, in Maker Makes, difines what it is to be human. ( or at least for most of us ) Thank You R.W

  • awh it's so pretty.

  • this sing reaches to the depths of my soul and heart....I love it so much.

  • Rufus is a great singer and piano player. This songs nearly makes me cry every time. The movie was very sad. I can only imagine the torment and anguish and prejudice that gay people must endure.

  • wow! love this at the ending!

  • In what part of the film is this song played?

  • It was played at the end when they were rolling the credits. to bad it is such a beautiful song.

  • In what part of the film is this song played?

  • The film broke my heart--have never been able to watch it a second time. The song broke my heart and at that point I didn't even know there was a Rufus Wainwright. Now I have the great pleasure of knowing Rufus' music and having my heart broken by it oh two, three, four times a day. And night. I consider this real progress.

  • This song is as perfect for "Brokeback Mountain" as BBM is for it. Together they set a mood that I have never seen equalled.

Whoever arranged the soundtrack for BBM did one HELL of a job...that goes for all the music!

  • Very difficult to love you, when this love is not right, I love you... I love you... I hate this... I deserve this.

  • I got chilled everytime i listen to this song. his voice is so haunting.

  • I love the movie and I love this song! The best piece on the Brokeback Mountain OST.

  • That song makes me cry. Brokeback Mountain is a great movie. Ennis & Jack FOREVER. R.I.P. Heath Ledger... ¤

  • When I first listened to this song I thought I was listening to Radiohead because Rufus totally sounds like Thom Yorke in this song and the music could pass for Radiohead's (b/c of the piano. Not the chord progression necessarily.)

    Awesome song!

  • In memory of Heath Ledger.

    RIP.

    Unforg song & unforg Rufus...

  • this is one movie i will never forget. this song makes the ending all so wonderful.

  • I can't watch Brokeback Mountain without crying cuz of this song. It's so beautiful and it makes me think of poor Heath and all those who are grieving for him. It's too sad...

  • love this song...

  • Ang Lee, beautiful, MASTERFUL. Rufus, as always, delicious.

  • Beautiful.

  • brings tears to me eyes.

  • just watched brokeback mountain for the first time and been a huge fan of rufus for a while and think this film and this song work fantasticaly together, amazing

  • in memory oh HL

  • Rufus is a true great musician

    This song is

    W O N D E R F U L

I can't imagine a better ending song for that beautiful movie!

  • A beautiful Song! at the same time that a love that will never grow old.. Brokeback Mountain we'll never forget!

  • Exactly, the movie we will never forget. We will always remember the movie, our love, and a great script, so true to many lives. Thanks

  • He and his voice remind me a lot of Tom Waits, dunno why, it's an impression

  • Such a beautiful song.

    RIP heathxxx

  • RiP, god bless

  • Wonderful song.RIP Heath Ledger. He was an amazing actor

  • Que Deus Abençoe Heath Ledger.

  • It really shocks...I just watched this video last night

    RIP.........

  • RIP Heath Ledger!! God Bless

  • Y\We need to realize homosexuality and bisexuality has been around since the days of Alexander. My love goes as deep for Larry as it does for my wife. I need him and he needs me, yet we are in the position we remain married, for reasons society demands, at least where we live. Are we hurting our wives(?) perhaps, but neither of us regret our devotion to one another. Yes love is real! Fags? Not really, lovers, yes!

  • Thank you for this. We will be CITIZENS!

  • brokeback mountain 4ever

  • the haunting beauty Rufus has captured for us to live in this song/vid story is produced by old souls. There's no doubt he has lived many lives.Thank You.............

  • This song is absolutely beautiful, and perfect for the movie...

  • Each and every time I listen to this song and watch the video reminds me of the past 35 years hiding our secret from our wives, and loving each other unconditionally albeit in secret. Unfortunately, I'm sad more often than happy because we are seperated because of our military job assignments. A tremendously moving and beautiful tribute, Thanks Rufus

  • You guys are cool

  • How so? Thank you just the same for saying so.

  • What you are hinting at!

  • What a terrible thing to do to your wives. Tell them and let them be happy without you. You can't have it both ways.

  • You are correct...it is a terrible thing to do, but I need him and he needs me

  • I know. It occurs to me watching this film that it's happened countless times throughout history, to countless wives; even those societies which have been tolerant of homosexuals have usually demanded they intergrate in to the accepted way of things by getting married etc.

  • Kelberoth, I'm sure you would not turn down a "fag" if the opportunity presented itself. Don't be such a hater. And besides, YOU could be... Never mind. You're probably just an insecure little pencil pecker of a boy. So shut up already. Just enjoy the song and move along little doggie....

  • yes we fags are amazing!!!!

  • my entire life mimics this movie and the words to this song. 67, yes 67. Silent and secretive. My "brokeback Mountain" ended it last year after 12 1/2 years. I still cry to this day, and wish my smile would be happy, not sad.

  • God bless you. I'm 67 too. You won't believe it can be possible right now but, it's true, you will smile again. It will take time, and healing, but you will. Mark my words.

  • i loved this song.loved the movie as well.

  • Lindo.

  • that´s beautiful... thank you.

  • this song is so beautiful. grabbed me the first time i heard it. So beautifully written and sung.

  • A perfect song, beautifully sung. Look for 'Rufus Wainwright - The Maker Makes - France Inter 2007'. Search 'The Maker Makes'. I like it because the vocalism is more open and because it was recorded this year and shows that he can still do the performance with the same passion. This song gives me the same feeling of universality that Dylan's "Blowing in the Wind" gave me long before it was a hit. Rufus has established the pattern. Many more good singers are sure to want to sing it.

  • before Blowing In the Wind was a hit? You must be at least 50 years old!

  • Yes. 67. Didn't immediately hear "Maker" even though I had purchased the CD just to get Willie's song. Was amazed when I first heard "Maker" over the movie end credits. Really like good singing. Rufus is a keeper. Like that clip of him singing with his mother, 'the good son'. Will always do the job. The cool thing about music is that the magic isn't age conscious. Jerry Lee is a wreak in his early 70's and just beginning to sound good.

  • I'll admit it. That movie made me cry.

  • The song is very beautiful. But it looks like he's just seen the movie *sob*

  • This song just sounds like 1930-1960's black gospel negro spirituals. But he sang well...

  • I hate Rufus he is to talented everything he releases i love he is truly a genius in every sense of the word

  • Es ist ein Wunder gesehen ! Ich kann nur weinen.Oo My Lord !

  • I didnt like this song when I first heard it on LOGO,it for me is one of those Rufus song you have to hear at least a few times before you really find it catchy.<33 I love Rufus,he's so clever.

  • stunning

  • love this...thx

  • lovely song

  • i love you RUFUS WAINWRIGHT!. hehe. he makes my day. and makes my books write them selfs.

  • No matter how many times I listen to this song I am moved to the very depths. The emotion Rufus Wainwright always brings forth through his voice and that smooth smooth vibrato is nothing but miraculous! This song and the way it's delivered definitely exudes the sadness of two people who love one another yet can't be together. Very moving. And yes, I'd agree that Rufus Wainwright as the face of an angel.

  • The more I see him, the more I pitty the fact he's gay! He's the perfect man!

  • Beautiful song, good singer, and the scenes are from the best movie ever made. The actors were superb!

  • Well if you can walk in his shoes ...and suffer his pain ..and understand ..you have no right to judge him. Tell us your past so we can judge you like you would judge someone who suffered pain in their past. He is a great singer ;)

  • me?? no!! im sticking up for them!!

  • Hateful people love spamming Wainwright's videos on here don't they? Its really annoying me because some of them claim to be Christians yet they say stuff like "JESUS HATES YOU" which is like, the biggest load of crap ive ever heard in my life. so seriously, if anybody is thinking of having a war about that, don't even bother...and no im not gay but if I was, i would sleep at night knowing God loves me :]

  • too beautiful for words

  • I ask myself that question every time I even think of this song (I'm simply unable to listen to it often because of the place it leaves me....)

  • Why wasnt this song even nominated for the Original Song Oscar??!!!?!?!

  • Because they don't like gay guys! I'm kidding. benjamin72hollow is the biggest gay i know so... no but seriously, i didn't know about Rufus' past until reading the wikepidia thingy about him. it sucks what happened to him. this song is really amazing.

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!

So you're still coming over right?

  • Are you being rude to gays??? Just want to know, cause your no the only one, and your a dying kind.....Cant you see that.... :-)

  • I'm the biggest Rufus fan. I'm a straight woman... It wasn't nominated cuz the Oscar panel consists of stodgy old white homophobes. Its an amazing movie/song.

  • RUFUS!!! my god my love! he's gay and it's so sexy!

  • too bad rufus is gay.

  • Uh, Rufus. my future husband. :D

  • i think you said this on another video too lol.

  • Simply wonderful

  • Thank you so very much for posting this wonderful song.

he even wrote it himself, didn´t he?

    What a man!;)

  • wooow, I've never seen this, I always thought they should make a music video for this song but I didn't know there was already one! well, I didn't like this movie, but Rufus is so amazing I even bought the soundtrack :) I love this song so much.

  • I can only listen to this song once in a while; it is so beautiful and so tragic...this cut with the overlay of Jack and Ennis is just great. Seeing this movie changed my life in so many ways. Rufus is a star and has a long career ahead of him. His own story is fascinating and he has known pain himself. He is gay and has had to deal with drug abuse. He is a gift and comes from a family of gifted musicians.

  • oh i love it but how i can get it? could s.o. sent it to me? please^^

  • I haven't seen the video yet, so glad to see it finally :D

  • This video makes me cry every time I see it. I noticed [in the top right-hand corner] that this also came from Logo... I love that channel. It's more real than any others.

  • I haven't seen this movie yet. I couldn't bare another sad ending. Tell me: should I see it?

  • Of course, it's a great movie...Ang Lee and the cast did a fantastic work....then again....seeing that I am downloading all Ravenus's videos and keep asking for more, is a dead give away that I am 100% crazy about this movie!!!

  • In case you haven't already seen it: Great movie, but a very (I mean it)sad end.

  • Beautiful song, wonderful film, and the first track I ever heard the fabulous Rufus sing - incredible video.

  • T_T *sob*

This song always makes me cry!

  • Love this song, love this movie

  • Amazing song for the best movie I've seen in years. This song is so good and fits the movie so well. Fantastic!

  • a wonderful movie, a wonderful song and a wonderful singer ==> PERFECT !!

    ;-)

  • This guy can really sing.

  • This is one song that can make me cry, no matter what. One of the most beautiful songs ever. Love it and I have never seen this video before. Thank you!!

  • What a wonderful song. This man has a wonderful way with words.
