Well, this place is like most places in the Himalayas most beautiful & mysterious to the eye, but a hard place to live in. The people are extremely friendly & unselfish which comes across as the right attitude among the magnitude of these harsh mountains. Lifestyle in the little townships is rough and survivalist as in fact the awesome looking very old Temples of the buddhists are too. Our little group flew into Leh and hitchhiked with the mountaintruckers onward to Srinagar. it's high up there!
@waltwide Wow.. sounds awesome. I really want to go there. I know a monk from Lamayuru monastery, he's from Ladakh but lives in my country now as a resident lama. He's told me a lot of funny and interesting stories about monastic life. He also told me that in present-day Ladakh more and more people want to look Western, like wearing jeans and shirts, and stuff like that. Did you observe something like that too?
@xRinoasis ... of course, your friend is right... the time does not stand still, but best is indeed to pack a backpack and go there!!! ... it is awesome and tends to clean your mind from a lot of rubbish.
