Did most of my ILS training at FALA out of FAGC. Great airport. Bit difficult to get training clearance these days with the likes of these guys flying out of it now.
@LGSO Good obsevation... It's definately not Cape Town... The landing is a diffirent flight and crew. The take off was a Kulula flight out of Lanseria and the landing was a BA Comair flight in one of their other destinations... (could've been Vic Falls..)
@hoomyged It's Lanseria Airport in Johannesburg. Only kulula operates from that airport and other charter companies. Awesome airline, and awesome airport..
@notar1 It is not often that you can do a high speed approach into a busy airspace. It basically meant that there was no air traffic surrounding the airport. It makes for exciting landing conditions!!
First officer IS in the right seat. However in the first flight he is also Duty Pilot Flying (PF) and the "Captain" (senior rank) is (depending on terminology) Pilot Monitoring (PM or PNF) - This is for currency reasons, you don't want First Officers never flying the plane for months and years till they get the Unfrozen ATPL or Captain rating. There's a certain amount of "Pilot Flying" hours they must do every month. F/O rating though means it's going to be flown Right Seat.
Wow - that is a seriously excellent video. I love the 737-300/400 as they still retain some of the older, analog instruments and not completely automated like most aeroplanes these days. You still get some glass tubes. The first Captain profiled seems very nice and enthusiastic - and you can't beat that South African accent. Looks like another fantastic addition to your video collection. I can't wait to visit South Africa - I will definitely fly Comair when I visit!!!!
I love the sound of South Africans...

2:07 the landing lights are off, did he say "gigli"?
kembooo000 2 years ago
I think he said your green, or good to increase speed.
EinkOLED 1 year ago
@kembooo000 He said gear green. Which mean the landing gear went up without problem as indicated with the 3 green lights.
MrCars 1 year ago
@MrCars He actually said "Gear Clean" which means the landing gear is stowed and the gear doors are closed. hehe...

Last captain seems to have superior airmanship, not to mention pretty amazing handflying ability.

@notar1 They were cleared for a high-speed approach into Cape Town. Simply means no speed restrictions on the descent.

A great Captain. Nothing better than an Ethusiastic pilot talking us over what's happening etc. Excellent!
