Plenty of albums are certified platinum and gold and havent actually sold the amount, just shipped the amount. i.E. Letoya and Danity Kane's debuts, even Rihanna's latest album has only sold 650k but has already been certified platinum.

The CD "Shanice" was so good. I remember when it dropped in 1999. I thought, finally Shanice is going to get the chart success she deserved since her first CD "Discovery". Well, the reviews were generally negative about this CD. I was so mad. I realized then, that the Hip-Hop generation has no clue what makes good R&B music. Now I don't expect any song I like to chart anymore. I am just greatful when songs like "You Need A Man" drop. I listen to them over and over, and ignore the radio.

No video's released for this song or "Yesterday". I never even knew they had shot the videos. My question is, why were they not released?! It makes no sense. La'Face did a horrible job marketing this CD. On a NY radio show, she said that they still owe her money. Peace and blessings to all.
From what I heard, LaFace rushed a video to be made but the end result was something that wasn't usable. Shanice wanted to redo the video for it but LaFace wouldn't let her which I though was unfortunate because I thought "Yesterday" was a very strong single that LaFace canceled and wrote off too soon. "You Need A Man" is good too and I'm glad to finally have a chance to see this video in it's complete form.
Many persons today think that only artistes who win grammy and are played on MTV, BET and others are successful. I will remind you that couple years back Toni Braxton filed bankruptcy after selling millions and winning several grammys; TLC also suffered similar fate. Shanice has never filed bankruptcy and she is making much more as an independent artiste than being signed to a major label. So while Shanice may not get spotlight she is still better off than many who are glued on TV.
Lastly, 6,000 independently means that Shanice made about the same amount of money as an artist that sold 60,000 on a major label. Thats only if that major label artist has publishing and write their own music. Just a thought. Shanice clearly has morals and standards that will not allow her to sell her soul to this industry full off Pimps and hoes. Nuff Said.

You do know, don't you, that ANYone can contribute to Wikipedia? Most people don't know what they're talking about. The RIAA requires at least 500,000 units sold in order to qualify as a gold-selling album or single. No less.

no, it just has to SHIP that amount. Mariah Carey's album has only sold 420k as of Feb 2010 but it was certified gold last yr in December. Plenty of albums are certified platinum and gold and havent actually sold the amount, just shipped the amount. i.E. Letoya and Danity Kane's debuts, even Rihanna's latest album has only sold 650k but has already been certified platinum.

this cd should've done a whole lot better, if she had the proper publicity, because she has real vocal talent, but so underrated. i use to play this entire cd all the time back in late 90s

The CD "Shanice" was so good. I remember when it dropped in 1999. I thought, finally Shanice is going to get the chart success she deserved since her first CD "Discovery". Well, the reviews were generally negative about this CD. I was so mad. I realized then, that the Hip-Hop generation has no clue what makes good R&B music. Now I don't expect any song I like to chart anymore. I am just greatful when songs like "You Need A Man" drop. I listen to them over and over, and ignore the radio.

la ried and babyface didn't know how to make her. she shine brighter than tlc and toni braxton. her talent wasn't use fully. she was put on the back burner. all those awards and number hits could have been hers. oh her shancie ablum was her best ablum to date. she did a yesterday video and like this one. it didn't even make the cut. one of her best songs. never made it to the air.

Wow was this video never released? I love the song but can't really say I remember hearing it played much on the radio in my area, was it promoted by her record label at all? If not, I certainly hope she is no longer with them because her talent is far too good to be wasted like that.

I agree with just about everything that's been said here. I too had this cd when it came out in '99, and couldn't believe how bad LaFace bungled this project. No video's released for this song or "Yesterday". I never even knew they had shot the videos. My question is, why were they not released?! It makes no sense. Both singles were very strong, especially "Yesterday". She deserved better than what she got on LaFace.

2SWEET4U90210: You are right; L.A. was running the business side of things at LaFace. By 1999, Babyface had pretty much relinquished any control he had there, and was working on establishing a new label (Nu America).
Shanice isn't the only person L.A. Reid has screwed over; ask anybody in the business...

I CONCUR! This cd is a must have for any r&b fan! Even if you're not in the mood, once you put it in WOW! You're taken over!!! I think Laface sucks. How can you release a song it broke a record by making the biggest chart jump, and immediately you stopped promoting the album? How can you release 2 other singles and refused to release the videos? I smell a rat~~~ Up to this very day I feel there's a conspiracy to see Shanice fail - But no one can stop God's blessings....Saang SHANICE!!! SAAAAANG!

From what I heard, LaFace rushed a video to be made but the end result was something that wasn't usable. Shanice wanted to redo the video for it but LaFace wouldn't let her which I though was unfortunate because I thought "Yesterday" was a very strong single that LaFace canceled and wrote off too soon. "You Need A Man" is good too and I'm glad to finally have a chance to see this video in it's complete form.

Many persons today think that only artistes who win grammy and are played on MTV, BET and others are successful. I will remind you that couple years back Toni Braxton filed bankruptcy after selling millions and winning several grammys; TLC also suffered similar fate. Shanice has never filed bankruptcy and she is making much more as an independent artiste than being signed to a major label. So while Shanice may not get spotlight she is still better off than many who are glued on TV.

Lastly, 6,000 independently means that Shanice made about the same amount of money as an artist that sold 60,000 on a major label. Thats only if that major label artist has publishing and write their own music. Just a thought. Shanice clearly has morals and standards that will not allow her to sell her soul to this industry full off Pimps and hoes. Nuff Said.

First of all this video is from 1999...but i think it's better then a lot of the cheezy' videos that I see today. I wouldn't say much about Shanice's voice. anyone that knows anything about music knows that she is clearly one the most underrated singers EVER. Your fav singer will tell you that one.

Amel Larrieux only sold over 3000 copies of her latest release, that in no way speak for her talent. She like Shanice is an independent artiste and it takes more effort to get things out. In fact most of the talented singers who refuse to make themselves bitches are cast aside while less talented ones are given the edge.
