i have a question I have a 04 silverado 1500 4.8 and got my truck re geared didn't to the spyder gears then this month I cracked one and the other well got torn up so I cant for some reason take that shaft pin out like in this video it just slides right out mine is stuck on a spyder gear that goes tru the shaft what could i do thanks anyone could help
@foranddustin1286- not always will you end up with a failed attempt welding spider gears.. i race stock cars on 1/4 mile track and i have raced many races i welded gears together with a mig welder and have won races on them.. never underestimate what a mig welder can do :)
Awesome video but I have a question. Ibown a 70 chevelle with a turbo 400 and a 10 bolt rear end with posi and 3.73 gears. I'm am currently building a true LS6 454 and was wondering if I have 2 change to a 12 bolt rear end?? Will it thrash what I have in it now? the 400 is built with a shift kit also. Hope 2 hear from you. Thanks
Great video! im thinking of using a car axle for a dune buggy by replacing the ring gear with a sprocket and welding the spider gears, since thier is no way to keep the oil in with a chain. Any advice would be great.
@swampthing1034 Yeah, dont weld anything, you will end up with a failed attempt, unless your an amazing precision machinist. And what car, what make, what model. I dont see how youll ever use a sprocket either, oil expands when it gets hot and if you have any holes in your housing, it will leak.
I have a 65 Impala SS and I removed my axles to install disc brakes on that vehicle.Front and rear.Interesting thing is that I used the brake system from a 78 corvette.Year range that would work is 65 to 81 vett.
@forandustin1286 thanks, but i actually just removed the pin and both axles could be pulled out. like @xavios18 said. I thought it had something to do with a c clip which it did not.
Very informative, I have a 1997 jeep wrangler that has plat in the pin that goes between the spider gears I am pretty sure my axle bearing on the passenger side is bad perhaps both. Tell me is this pretty much the same as what I will have to do with my Jeep? Until now I had no clue how these axles were held in place or how to remove them, I have been trying to learn every day since a mechanic told me could be 2400.00 to fix and I took my jeep off the road till I fix myself.
throw some nitrile gloves on, it doesn't make you more of a man to die of cancer in 30 years... just saying. automotive fluids and solvents are nasty shit... plus you spend less time washing up, and if you need to touch something you want to keep clean just peel one off.
As was mentioned earlier you don't have to remove those satellite gears. Just remove the locking bolt and carefully slide out the pin. Try not to disturb the those gears so they don't fall out. It's a pain to put them back in. Also, the locking bolts I've seen have a lot smaller head than the one they have, and it can be in there tightly. Go easy on it when removing it, because it can break off and then you have a big problem.
Thanks for posting this vid! It made things a lot easier.

i've got a 78 caprice and for some reason my axle's wont move in enough to get at the c clip.
aknowneemus 1 year ago
@aknowneemus Look towards the hub, pay attention to whether or not its got a loose spring in between the hub and the axle itself
If that doesnt work then,im stumped.

That's a relief. I did this along time ago and couldn't, for the life of me, remember doing anything with the gears.
