@OsamaBinLadenx True, but even Roger Gracie admits that Jacare was his toughest competitor. They had a Great Rivalry. I have Roger, Jacare & Marcelo Garcia in my top 3 baddest BJJ Practitioners. If you want a tall, Lanky, Matchup Nightmare, unorthodox type of BJJ fighter, you'd go with Roger, If you want a small, technical, quick, fast, slick and deadly BJJ fighter you'd go with Marcelo. But if you want a strong, athletic, fast paced with crazy judo throws & takedowns, you gotta go with Jacare.

@kanguesso Will be interesting to see if Jacare can beat Braulio in ADCC this year. Jacare been predominantly MMA for a while now while Braulio is still mostly training BJJ so I think Braulio is a slight favorite.

I think today Braulio would sub Jacare, in a gi or no- gi fight.

Jacare has been concentrating on MMA and his grappling has probably suffered as a result.

@Arcturistheballer the way i do my escape is walk round the opposite side of the trapped arm (the side where the opponents foot is under they knee), holding on to the opponents arm that is near my free arm so they cant spin around with me, then step over their body. This forces the foot that is tucked under the knee out breaking the triangle.

wasn't the wrong way, he wasn't giving jacare the right angle to finish the choke completely. that's why jacare wasn't able to finish the choke but went for an armbar instead.

@TheWolfgang619 no hes not by using this move he actually puts lot of pressure on jacares knee and calf so in some cases the pressure makes you open the triangle apparently didnt work on jacare :)

@TheWolfgang619 He was walking around the right way, using his shoulder to take the pressure off his neck and putting a lot of strain on Jacare's ankle. Walking the other way would have actually given Jacare the right angle to finish the triangle.

It seems like people have kind of forgotten about Jacare since he's been doing mma. His win over Robert proved he's still top 3. He beat Drysdale on short notice after not training straight jits. He's beaten Roger, Marcelo, Xande, and Braulio. Jacare could arguably be #1 p4p grappler in world.

Pound for pound means he is the best fighting at his weight as well as in ratio of someone who would be 50 lbs heavier but would only win based on the weight advantage and not on his skill advantage. Pound for pound does not mean best fighter as if you dropped the heavier person into the cage with the p4p guy the p4p would still lose.

@palu34 I agree. His takedowns are second to none, and that often forces his opponent into having to expose themselves in order to get ahead on points. He is a multifaceted fighter, and I think he has been top 3 for a long while.

nobody forgets it's just that he chose to retire out of the BJJ competition scene.

that's why nobody really talks about him anymore.

it was a noGi event, so not training in PURE BJJ wouldn't really make much of a difference and the fact that jacare beat robert with what he arguably does best, which are takedowns, Which are constantly drilled in MMA training.

jacare also always trains, and is always in shape.

on a high note i would love to see them and roger go at it again.

but, marcelo has been out of competition the whole 2008 season. and has just comeback this year.

the only major tournament he has WON this year is the worlds in his own weight class.

And because he was unable to retain his title in the ADCC. he is arguably no longer the best p4p grappler out there.
