  • I suppose it's a housing estate now. Is there a Lodekka Lane? That seems to be the way nowadays- shut down everything and bulldoze it flat.

  • Very nice film and a very sad transport loss. Thank you.

  • if it wasn't for united auto's ECW might not of happened.

united celebrates its 100th birthday in 2012

  • Who ever you are who recorded this little gem, I thank you. If it was not for you i would never have known how they got the roof on. Great video.

  • @OBowner Glad that you enjoyed it!

  • What a fantastic little video. Where is it from? Thanks for uploading.

  • @wrexhamcrosville It was shown on Television as part of an on-going documentary series a couple of years ago

  • What a great video thanks for uploading

  • @lowestoftbus Thank You, glad that you enjoyed it

  • Interesting video, I was a driver for Central SMT in the 60s where nearly all the buses were Lodekka's

    Good buses, built to last

  • Yes, unlike today's buses.

  • @nwl246 i bet they were! When that closed the town cried i think, Lowestoft used to build buses, trains and boats. Now all gone

  • I remember travelling on the 251 from WG too Southend & the 151 aswell, which for a time ran to Canvey island. There was also the 351 which ran from WG too Chelmsford but only on Sundays & Wednesdays I believe, the rest of the time it ran from Romford.

  • Great video, i remember traveling on the 251 eastern national service from wood green in north london the southend on sea essex, i loved the bristol lodekkas, the green livery outside and cream inside, i think the last service from wood green garage was in 1981 after which it was demolished and is now a cinema and pub complex, i will never forget the 2 hour 40 minute journey to southend via all those essex villages it brings a tear to my eye.

  • Glad that you enjoyed it

  • You shall be glad to hear that ECW Boddied ex west ridding number 612 and 577 are preserved to day and 577 i am working on at the moment with her owner in Keightley Yorkshire a long with a Bristol VR that rolled out of here 609 well done lads..

  • My god. Where did it all go wrong? The finest buses in the world, made by some of the finest tradesmen in the world. Lowestoft has never really recovered: No jobs, no identity, crap roads, pisspoor council, descent into crime and despair.

ECW was hung out to dry, Fishing Industry neglected and dead. Thank god for the likes of SLP, still proudly flying the flag for real industrial acheivement in the East of England, on a global scale.

Great video, important piece of our Suffolk history.

  • ECW forever

  • Will somebody PLEASE save D263FUL (that last Olympian to leave the factory) for preservation!!

  • ECW and Bristol, a perfect mix...

  • All respect to these worthy men! The testament to their skills is borne out by the number of ECW buses surviving in preservation today. Awesomely reliable build quality, and pleasing design. My tribute to Bristol too.

Had our stupid politicians not nationalised them, they would certainly have killed off hopeless Leyland in the PSV market, as the rush for their products post 1965 prove.
