Military ensembles have been a very important part of Israeli folklore from the establishment of the state of Israel all the way to the late 70's. Many of the 'stars' of Israeli performing arts culture have started their path by participating in these ensembles as part of their mandatory military service.

The song is beautiful. But the history of Israel is controversal. Particulary inrecent years. How many of us have been dreaming of the first Aliyat or the foundation of the State? I hardly find this spirit in today's Israel.

Because the word here is not soldier. Kheyl Hayam is the Israeli navy. You are not referring to one soldier but to the whole unit.
