  • THANKS MAN! so if im using the turntable just for listening my old (and new) vinyls i need the ortofon concord pro s(which is spherical?) or the ortofon blue, really? between this 2 which is better?

    thanks man!

  • Ellaskins is seriously the best DJ help on the net to date....... I dont know why he stopped doing videos he was the best....

  • I think this is the "Dope Mix". Original Mix doesn't have the cowbell. Ellaskins, can you verify? Thanks.

  • Anybody?... what's with the Shure m44-7? Everybody says that's the shit to get.

  • I'm thinking the middle turntable sounded the best to my ears. Hard to tell, but I felt like the highs stood out more. I could be wrong, cause this is youtube. lol!

  • very little differences, we really cant tell cuz this is on youtube

  • i ve had the blue ones and the black ones the blues def sound better, would a blue tip fit on a black frame and improve the sound still ?

  • can i interchange the styli is that possible?

  • What cartridge ( Ortofon ) do you recommend to use with Serato Scratch Live...???

  • Great review, thanks

  • ellaskins what do you think i just need one capsule to mix in my room jjust that and one that who save my vynil esferical is better to keep good the vynil

  • You can't go wrong with any ortofon concorde. There are a ridiculous amount of types of concordes, and many have S and E versions. The tips are interchangable but the cart bodies have different engines too that have different outputs. The very best ones spec wise are the Serato SL-120s. Qberts have very high output. Nightclub Mk 2s have High output and sound great. Elektros have almost has high output and have tweaked frequencies for dance music. Everything else on down are still great too

  • I just want a needle that will give good sound, im not a DJ.

    Can anyone help out?

  • @DollaTwo get the Arkiv Elliptical Concorde

  • what ortofon needle would you recommend for a dj who is equally turntablist and club dj, and equally digital (Serato) and Vinyl??? (Myself)

  • @Jhaxias Elektros or Nightclub Mk IIs

  • what ortofon needle would you recommend for a dj who is equally turntablist and club dj, and equally digital (Serato) and Vinyl??? (Myself)

  • witch mixer do you have

  • @freaky12ju sorry, didnt mean to mark down...

  • I Have a Question I Want To Start Dj... Im a Teen! But Can You Play Music from a mac and still scratch and make mixes?

  • @2424Anthony You could start out using virtual dj or other mixing software. But if you really want to mix and scratch like the real dj's you could go with a Serato Scratch Live or a Traktor Scratch setup. google it, you'll find lots of good information!

  • Thank you ellaskins your a legend mate.

    frm the LandDownUnder.

  • Well as long as the needle stays in the groove, elliptical may actually be more friendly to your vinyl than the spherical, because of the area which the needle meets the vinyl is greater..

  • @F3udF1st The most important thing is to pick a stylus type and stick to it. Switching wears two different groove patterns. Elipticals are slightly better sounding but for backcuing or any kind of scratching you want to use a spherical stylus

  • hi jonathan why dont you always plug ur mixer into your camera

  • I have ortofon pro-s and dj-e, and i think that pro's and dj's have similar quality of sound, but night club is a lot of better ;D

  • к лагопеду ссука

  • I've gotta say I bought the bog standard silver concordes in 1992, they lasted until 2008! Seriously. I then bought the Dj Ketaro Concordes they lasted 8 months. Dunno what happened there I now use M-447s. Which is nice.

  • tnx man you helped me a lot

    tnxxx

  • The man!

  • Great vid mate! Really what I needed to know the differences!

    Regards,

    dj pelipe

  • THANKS. GOOD VIDEO

  • good work mate u are a great teacher

  • good job on the advise on helping people. I almost actually bought a set of nightclubs cuz im a dinosaur im glad I watched this cause im a scratch dj and need sphyerical stylus. thanks again

  • There seems to be a big misconception going around in regards to stylus shapes. First of all, the 'stylus' technically refers to the diamond itself or the replaceable assembly containing the cantilever and diamond- not the whole cartridge. Second, those drawings of stylus shapes are completely incorrect. A spherical and elliptical look virtually identical when viewed from the front. They look different from the side, however, with the elliptical having a shorter front-to-back profile.

  • @bryede

More info: to get a better look at the shapes, Google "stylus_profiles.jpg" and click the Audio Asylum link.

  • Thanks! Great videos... keep 'em comin'! :)

  • You are the most helpful, easy to understand versatile DJ tutor i have seen. Thank you so much for all the info and effort. Cheers

  • Hey can i stick on a Ortofon Pro System a DJs or a Q.Bert needle?

  • It will fit but it's not ideal.

  • how much can you pick these stylus up for?

  • question, when your needle is worn, will it damage your vinyl and/or will it skip more??

  • thanks! =D

  • Shure m44-g best of both worlds

  • Hi! I bought the elliptical stylus and the point about sound between elliptical and spherical is that elliptical gives warmer sound and lift the bass up a little bit, also, it cuts high ones, and the tirth thing about elliptical is that if you have a damage on your grooves ( clicks and crackles) elliptical stylus will give you much less clicking on your speakers. I am using VESTAX VR5EE. Cheers!

  • ORTOFON THE BEST!I GOT 2!!!

  • what do you think is better for scratching concorde scratch or m44 7???

  • i just got some m447s i think the m447s or better for scratching

  • M447?

  • i have concorde s pro...but it skips! i dont know why...

  • same

  • man you make the best tutorials, nice job thank you for this helped me select a cartridge im goin with the dj s

  • the DJ sounds fuller, more high detail, and more low.

The nightclub E is a lot more bass, more high, and especially more natural than the pro. But you'll have more tracking troubles.

But any hi fi cart beats 'em all with a distance.

  • I was bout to say the same thing. That hi-hat seems much fuller to me on the NC and the bass has a better release.

  • very nice job, just got me a pair of pro-s and it is by far the best sound quality i got from my set up, thanks again,

  • the pro s better one out of all of them by sound quality by your vid

  • someone with knowledge and the will to use it on youtube, thank god. Best tutorials and explanations on all things mixing. Keep it up man.

  • 3rd is a bit louder and more crisp sounding AND when a sound stops on the record (whlle its playing) (like a pause in between beats) its alot more abrupt sounding

  • Thanks this post, nice DJ!!

  • real nice guy!!!

    practice and enjoy!!!

  • muy bueno amigoo..;)

  • ooops i scratch on my ortofon nightclubs. and one needle stopped working now i have to spend 50 quid just for one stylus. :(

  • for scratching the ortofon dj s or electro or the shure m-447 are the best.

  • lol u must had 20 turntable

  • were can u get turn table vinyls

  • right nice job explaining the concords!the text is fantastic and the vid,and three more as well ab fab bro

  • thanks for the post, really helps when you cant decide and dont really have anyone to turn to...cheers from los angeles!!..i have the second ortofon one...(i think im gonna stick with spherical, but i think most scratch cartridges that are offered are sphrical!..u remind me of bruce dickinson without the attitude! my concorde pro s; says on the back of it that it is mix/scratch which looks like the first turntable..

  • I use Stanton str8 series tables, will these fit on them..much Love J again a killer vid you are 1337 bro

  • another great video!!!

  • great advise

  • Ortofon Blue Dj's I've had for 8 years and I've been a Dj for 10. I love these needles. They don't skip, plus the sound is awesome!

  • i had Ortofon Blue for about 8 years too and they don't skip at 4 grams

  • I own the "s" ones, and they skip a lot. but the records last longer... but as a turntalbist, I prefer buying 10 copies of the same record and have a stylus that doesn't skip. john u r the guru of djs. big up!!

  • Why of you buying ten copies of the same record?

  • Uhhh...because if and when the vinyl wears out you have extra copies .

  • Yeah but 10, just a tad extreme isn't it?? I buy doubles of all my battle and scratch vinyl, occasionally i may purchase a third copy but thats it. Had my copy of qbert superseal for 3 years and bearing in mind i thrash it everyday. It's still in near mint condition.

  • is it me or has house/dance music gone boring as hell. just a simple bassline, standard beats we've heard a million times before.

  • Word up!

  • I feel the same way with all this EDM coming out .House , DnB , Trance , Techno and all the sub-genres of these especially Electro House . Just seems the same beat being looped over and over again , but these kids today eat it up .

  • Great video johnathan, good explanation about the differences between elliptical and spherical cartridges. Haha wicky wicky wicky, is that what us turntablist sound like???

  • As far as the sound they all sound the same to me. However I would prefer the the rounded stylus to protec my vynil. Thanks nice video.

  • argh, (Irish accent) no one will get me lucky vinyl... haha

  • Hayfevers a bummer get well soon john

  • Nightclub > Pro > Concord

  • I hear a bit more bass on the Nightclub one. The first two I could not tell the difference. However, the difference with all three is too minuscule for it to be cared about on the dance floor.

  • Why the Kam slipmats? Did they pay you? ;)

    Thanks for the video, J!

I went with the whitelabel... shoulda gone nightclub =p

Just wondering... the elliptical ones, don't they apply less pressure per unit of surface area? Since it's more spread out all across the groove, rather than having your 2 grams applied to two thin contact points in the groove? That just never made sense to me =|

  • because the elliptical have a finer point it's better to have less pressure on the needle. If you have the same as an spherical you willbugger your vinyl up a lot quicker. j

  • hes got millions of decks n mixers n speakers n lights n tht n u care bowt the slip mats

how about you shut ur tits thugrandles

  • ...

Rogster, why did you take the time to write that?

    xD

I was just wondering because they're ALL kam slipmats on technics tables.. I'm just used to seeing technics mats on technics tables.

I didn't say anything bad about the rest of his gear, so...I'm just not sure where you're coming from??

  • Ok a went a bit crazy but i dont c y u examine little thhings like that

    it dusnt matter wat slipmats

they all work the same ellaskins mite just like those ones?

  • i do, they are as slippery as FU**! j

  • yesss you swore

    haha

uv done a vid before with me in it J

bowt prostitutes n amsterdam n they were good Lol

  • i dont ko if its me but the blue and the pro ones seem to have slightly more bass

  • Thank you for this test !

  • the elliptical one sounds more clear the others are a little buzzing but they are good toght

Nice vid J .. looking forward for your next vids :)

  • I agree, you can tell there is a difference when its plugged into the camera. But I think if your having a good time people will not be able to tell the difference.

  • yes after a couple of beers you will never tell the diffrence :P anyways its good to know the diffrences btw them, tis is important for tose high end audiophils xD

  • I've been wondering if that workstation table would hold turntables in "battle" position and this video has answered that.

I'll have to revisit that video where you assembled it.

    Thanks.

  • took 10 minutes to load 40 second of this. The only video Im having trouble with.

  • I get this sometimes. j

  • YouTube can be such a bitch sometimes...:(

  • The nightclub also comes in a spherical version

  • Was that a record from 3 Beats by the way J? I go there every week ;)

  • yes it was, got it last yr. j

  • It's a known fact it's all propaganda. You could pay £20 more just for a different colour! The sound quality is identical between them.

  • The KAM slip mat looks nice rotating on the Tech12

  • 5/5 stars romanian vot, good job Dj Tutor:P

  • Sander Van Doorn - By any demand ... such a great tune !

Ive attached another video response, I hope its okay.

    Greets

    F

  • Are those right angle RCA cables?

  • awesome vid btw !

  • Does he only use one monitor?

  • its a placebo effect. knowing that the last one is better just makes the mind intepret the sound as being better. but it is better actually hah.

  • and now that you know that its a placebo effect, u can`t tell the difference anymore

  • Great comparison Jonathan :)

  • I like the 1200 better than the 1210 for some reason. Which would you get between the two?

  • the 1200 is silver, the 1210 is black

  • Do you think the Technics are the best turntables on the market? Are they still the 'standard'?

  • Perhaps not any more as you have the Kam ddx 5000 , v good!, but the sl1200 has stood the test of time and is the daddy/ Godfather, but even a Godfather is taken over by a new kid in town eventualy. j

  • I was looking at the Kam's actually, also the Stanton's. In some places the Technics have become less expensive... The Technics seem more desirable somehow, probably yes because they are the Godfather!
