FYI - Soldering small wires like these is virtually impossible for average people. I fix broken earphone wires by using a liqiud cable (electrical) glue. Then i apply liquid insulating compound to protect the electrical circuit. Also be careful in how long the repaired wire ends up being. For example if you have to insert a new piece of wire to replace a damaged section - it will change the electrical resistance on the side you are repairing, The result will be a lower volume in that ear.
@purplearrow47 its certainly not impossible and the cable length can be reduced in tern boosting volume. all u need is flux, a precision iron, silver solder and heat shrink. i have done it before no probs
@salopy0 Thankyou for your reply. I know it can be done but, srill have problems doing it. I have tried fine resin core solder not what you have mentioned. Thanks for the advice Cheers
that company is indeed one of the best. i bought a pair of er-4ps from them. they lasted a really long time with my being very rough on them. when i called (within the warranty) about me breaking them, they told me to send it back and they sent me it back fixed up and working perfectly. i told them it was not my fault, but it was pretty obvious that it wasn't due to normal wear and tear. etymotic's customer service will be the primary reason i stay a customer of them. and they sound amazing.
i had the loose connection problem. they sent me a new pair and i put shoo goo on the the plug thing so it would'nt get fk'd up again. i like these earphones best i've ever had.
I just bought these when they were on sale for 60 bucks. They arrive in 2 or 3 days. Hopefully I won't have problems, but if I do, what does the warranty cover? I'd call the cord breaking away from the earphone a "defect" and I should hope it would be covered. I couldn't pass up a pair of Etymotics for 60 bucks, but it seems as if I may have bought the lemon of the family. I'm hoping.
Yes. We have solved he problem long ago. there was a problem with the cable molding and the stress relieve near the plug in connection. This has been resolve with a stronger cable and bigger stress relief.
P.S. to save you time and money, if the sound starts to fade out try changing the filters. The instruction booklet will tell you how.
Getting "shure" doesn't fix the problem because Shure is a whole different kind of sound which he may not prefer. I've never had a problem with my er6is. That's odd... But I can attest to the fact that the ER-4S cable is definitely built better. See if you can send them both in for credit and get the ER-4S instead :P

Get a pair of Shure's...they have a very durable cable and would prevent what happened here.

Is it just me, or does the cable on there look severed? I don't think a severed cord qualifies for any kind of a replacement.

My left side went out as well.

The are pretty responsive, I sent mine to them and they replaced with a new pair, very quickly.
