  • I love this pedal, I made a video today of this pedal.

  • Comment removed

  • sweet ballsy tone! really sounds great! Killer blues tone!

  • do they make these pedals? or they just sell the kits?

i really to lazy to make one..

  • Demo starts at 1:23

  • Beautiful......smooth...like baby child !!

  • Thanks for the demo. Well done and nice playing. I'm curious - any idea how this would sound with a Vox amp? Would appreciate your reply.

  • While We Cry was AMAZING!

  • is this the MBB Kit?

  • CAn u put a video of you playing pride and joy sounds sweet when u play it

  • hey man i saw your vids on this pedal and decided to build one myself i got it on Friday and stayed up till 2am putting it together , it is awesome and now I think i am hooked I am ordering a couple more to build THANKS MAN

  • AWESOME! incredible sound You nailed that Stevie Ray groove! I'm building 3G's clone of the Way Huge Red Llama right now but your video has inspired me to build this pedal next! Thanks!

  • In the middle of a strat and a deville....feel the warmth. incredible pedal, great player, cool dood....tks Pdogg!

  • like the vesion of whos that lady! and i use an ME-50 and s Valve King 100 watt head with marshall 1960's lead 4/12 cab. its nice!

  • Just built this bitch the other day... i'm using it on an EL84 based amp and it sounds awesome as well.

  • Very good playing !! And good preview

  • Does anyone know whether this pedal, the general guitar gadgets version, not the standard Marshall, is available without having to build it yourself?

  • they have a Marshall Bluesbreaker 2 that .... but its crap

  • you can buy a prebuilt pedal of the BYOC version

  • I feel as though this pedal would put me in a rude mood.

  • great pun

  • sick pedal sick playing! would you ever reccomend these diy kits to people who have never soldered or done this type of stuff before? I want to build my own pedals but not sure if i could even do that with the instructions/schematics.

  • Not this one. Start out with a Fuzz Face or Tone Bender kit first. This kit and the BSIAB2 kit get really tight inside the box, not much room to solder at the end. Get a few simple projects under your belt then go for the bigger one.

  • Nice playing, dude! But can this thing handle anything other than SRV? Something a little less bass-y? Some Led Zep? Or maybe even John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers(with Eric Clapton)?

  • He's got the tone knob all the way to the left in the demo to give him extra bass since he thinks his Deville needs it. I'm sure once you twist it right it'll get a lot more treble-y.

  • DUDE YOUR TONE SINGS BRO!

  • Sounds great. Are you tuned down a half step here?

  • Yes Sir.

  • @PLUMBdogg this is a replica...so would you recomment this or the original

  • Nice tone, nice chops! Might build me one too. Thanks!

  • Great demo man! I have quite a few GGG pedals. They rock!

  • That pedal is sick!

  • Is there any simple mods that would give me a little more gain on this one?

  • Hey man, i might get one of these because of your video, but does the pedal clean up with the guitar volume?

  • Cool, yeah it cleans up with the volume and I really like what it does to the E,A,D strings. Check out the video I made of building one if you never built one before.

    Peace

  • great playing man

  • Wow you play great man can we start a band? :D

  • Sure! You have to move to Milwaukee though.

  • that is one hell of a tone - do you use really heavy guage strings like SRV did?

  • Naw, I use .11's tuned down half a step on my Strat. It's like playing .10's.

  • man, when you turned the pedal on, i was like, wow, great tone, and you can play :)

    i go get a kit now :)

i would assume it would sound similar running through an HR Deluxe instead of Devile right?

  • cool, yeah it will sound great with the HR Deluxe, probably even get a little nastier since you can crank a Deluxe easier than the Deville.

  • Great Pedal and a Great Review

    Thanks!

  • Great playing and tone!!

also i would like to ask how did you apply the text on the pedal? water decal or something else...

    Thanks!!!

  • Yeah I used a water decal. It has it's pros and cons. Etching works even better.

    Later

  • You got chops man! I listened initially for the pedal but DAMN! You go!

  • thanks alot!

  • How many years have you been playing?

Just curious. I'm two years in and feel my progress is s-l-o-w-w-w : (.

    Chris

  • started in 1996 when I was 20 years old. learned all the Alice in Chains stuff from MTV Unplugged then moved to blues and r&b. Just keep on keepin on and you'll come around.

  • Thanks, I appreciate the encouragement. It's slow as I am sure you know but I'll just keep pushing.

    Chris

  • what is the name of that kenney wayne song that riff comes from? Plumbdogg your the fuckin man...from a fellow plumber/bluesplayer/DIYer.. I just built an AX84 P1-X el34 output, it sounds great, but I gotta use effects pedals to get the distortion I want..anyway great playing and great vids, peace!

  • Thanks. I'd like to see some pics or demos of your project. I like el34's alot. They can sound big and clean and then turn really punchy and distorted. BTW, Where you from and where did you get the project from?

  • i think it was "while we cry"

  • I forgot to comment your exceptional playing. Great sound! :)

  • Hey there!

I just changed pickups on my guitar to get that bell-like blues sound that you can hear from John Mayer for example. I can sense the sound but not as much as I was hoping for. Does the BB-1 replica contrubute more to a sound like that? (I'm playing through a "Fender Performer 1000", 100 watts combo).

  • The bb-1 sounds like a cranked fender amp. it adds alot of clarity to the notes. Best used with a tube amp on the clean channel. I don't know much about Mayer or his setup.

    peace

  • I can help with that. john mayer uses a marshall BB-2 pedal. its sound great but i wouldnt recommend getting it unless you have a tube amp

  • na he uses the bb-1 too

  • Hey,

I took the privilage of responding in vid,

    U can put yours also.

I think this is valuable info.

BTW I'm just a happy customer, this is my first kit.

  • Sounds great. How does this compare to the Marshall Bluesbreaker pedal now in production. I think MF has them for about $75 which is only slighty more than the General Guitar Gadgets kit. Also, what amp were you using here? Thanks.

  • I think he said it was a Hot Rod Deville. hold on, I'll check...

    yep, a Fender Hot Rod.

  • Thanks, I realized that he identified the amp after I posted my question. I also ordered a kit from GGG. My first kit too.

  • Hi,

your video made me get the kit from ggg (I already got two BSIAB, a Guv'nor and the P100 from them - they're great). Built mine yesterday - this box gives you that instant Fender Blues sound.

Your sound and your playing are flawless - go pro! I've seen all of your videos - you should get a record out.

  • Hey,

I just finished the pedal, Cant really test it now because its after midnight and baby and wife sleeping. I plugged it straight to the mixer just to test it, everything works.

Anyone who's afraid to build, I say go ahead this was my first complete build, took my time and tahts it! My previous experience is only modyifying all my pedals, plenty of info on the net. ok cant wait to warm up some tubes and get into srv territory

  • Great! I keep telling everyone...it's not that hard to build one. Just take your time and read the info. This is 40 year old technology here but it makes a heck of a complex tone. I sold my last bluestubes pedal. I think I'll have to build another one.

  • is there any way to order this pedal without having to put it together yourself?

  • you can try to find someone to build it for you. I built a couple for some people. Check the website to see if JD builds any for sale.

  • ok. I bit the bullet too, based on this vid im ordering either this or the ts clone.

Out of the 2 which one would you say has more of an SRV sound and tone, judging by vid seems like the bb-1. And BTW I know what u mean about the deville being compressed.

  • the bb-1 is my pick. you're a great player. i like your style and phrasing.

  • Tks, and thanks for the advice, this is a really helpful vid, and I'll definately let u know how it goes, and hopefully I'll post a vid of it.

And again like the other guy here said" f mine sounds anywhere near as good as yours I'll be really happy!

    so ditto for me.

  • I just bit the bullet and ordered this. I can't stop watching this clip. If mine sounds anywhere near as good as yours I'll be really happy!

  • cool! goodluck and let me know how it goes.

  • Thanks for the info Derek, when to site to see them but they a few types, which one are you using. thanks again Bud! davidwilson8

  • This is the Blues Breaker, version 1 (BB-1)

  • yeah, put it this way: if srv is a tubescreamer, then kws is a boss sd-1. they are the same circuit but the tubescreamer is a little fatter sounding and the sd-1 has a little more gain and a little more bite. :)

  • great SRV tone and playing.

Only thing that bothered me is you mentioning SRV and that faggot K.Wsheperd in the same breath, I kinda got insulted for SRV.

SRV has a sizzle to his tone ttahts from his hands only and nobody can do that.

    respect

  • Damn! You should give him a chance, I can tell his tone and playing from SRV anyday. It's the people without good ears that can't tell the difference. Remember too, SRV copped TONS of licks from Albert King. Right down to the 1/8 bends and vibrato and nobody gives him shit. I think KWS is trying to get past that SRV thing, he was 16 when he came out and I'm sure the record companies had alot to do with that. He's a good player.

  • wow man, you should try listening to KWS instead of just writing him off as another SRV rip off, i think you will be pleasantly surprised. And to be honest, i find KWS to normally play freddie king and Hendrix licks as opposed to SRV licks lately.

  • Great playing, what a great tone the mix of that pedal and amp create...really nice.....not too much distortion, very tasty indeed.

  • i really need to have this..nice tone and very subtle than the original

  • Damn, nice SRV tone.

  • how easy are they 2 put 2gether and do u get instructions. thaks greg

  • Hi PLUMBdogg I posted some clips of playing through my homebuilt MXR 45 phase shifter from generalguitargadgets and also a Umble preamp from I posted "The Dance Of Maya" by Mahahavishnu Orchestra and me just noodling aroud with clean & dirty settings. Click on my user name and look at the Bulletins Still no vid camera yet

  • Sounds awesome - I agree, generalguitargadgets is a GREAT place to buy kits, I love their pcb's too!

    bw

  • You gotta great site too! I just recommended one of your ebooks to someone. I plan on doing your tweed mod to a bluesdriver soon also. I got some Craig Anderton projects that look interesting and the warehouse guitar speakers you hipped me too sound great, demo coming soon!

  • Nice smooth tone! Well done, sounds great!

  • Your playing is great man, love it. Loving the tone too.

  • thanks. what are you playing that dime through in your vid? is that a pignose on your hip? i should just get one of those and just walk everywhere with it. that would be the shit! on another note, i'm a plumber and i'd say that's a pretty nice dishwasher back there!:)

  • I built the Marshall Bluesbreaker from the plans at GGG not the kit, I etch my own PC boards. I agree this is a great pedal sounds better than my TS808 Tube Screamer. I play 1960's Gibson SG's and 1973-1978 Electra Les Pauls I have 5 of them the Electras sound better than my old Les Pauls. Great pedal.

  • do you think it's worth etching your own? i've thought about it but are the chemicals a pain in the ass? pcb's run about $15 piece +s/h. wondering what it'll cost to get an etching setup.

  • It worth it to etch your own boards. You wind up building a lot more pedals saves the 15 and no waiting. I can get a 4"x6" copper board for 69c cut it into 4 pieces this will make up to 4 effects pedals. To etch I mix 1 part muriatic acid $10 a gallon at hardware stores, with 2 parts hydrogen peroxide about $1.25 a pint at any drug store. It etches them in about 15 minutes. Wear rubber gloves.

    (to be continued)

By the way I like your playing you get a good sound.

  • thanks. How do you lay out traces on it? How do the chemicals know where to eat at? Is that why people use transfer sheet? I'd like to hear some of the pedals, next time you should make a vid on etching, that would be cool.

  • I print the traces onto clear plastic Transparency Film using laser printer, then iron the pattern onto a clean circuit board. The toner melts onto the copper. The acid eats eats all the copper except the ironed on pattern. Later I clean the board with acetone which takes off the printing leaving shiny copper traces. I will try to get a vid camera to show some of my effects.

  • you have to check out my blues driver vid to get a feel for it. i like the bd-2 alot. i gave it a h20 mod from monteallums. they are totally different pedals. the bd-2 can't do the bass notes like this one but the bd-2 has very good picking harmonics.

  • what song ar eyou playing from 1:50-2:15? thanks and great vid.

    great product

  • Pride and Joy by SRV.

  • what is that Kenny wayne sheppard song that you do at the end? thanx

  • "While we cry" from Ledbetter Heights, great song, it sounds kinda like Yellow Ledbetter by Pearl Jam. Is Ledbetter a coincidence? I don't know but it sure is an odd one.

  • Thanx man ,you have a great tone going on there!

  • One last question, will this work with a solid state amp as well as a tube amp?

  • it will work but it won't sound as good as overdrive power tubes.

  • Nice Playin!! I Like the Sound!!

  • thanks carl, your neighborhood looks so peaceful in your vids:)

  • Yep.. I came here to die!! Its so quiet I wont know That its Happenened!!This way its not a shock!

  • What is the level of instructions that you get with the Pedal Kit, how much electronics do you need to know?

  • All of their instructions are on their web page in pdf files. They are good instructions and this is a great first time project. As for prior knowledge, they have many links on their site to get familiar with some of the terminology and components.

  • Sweet sound, great playing as well

  • that really sounds great. the playing and the pedal. i might just have to get one myself now.

  • thanks, you wouldn't be disappointed if you did.
