theres this awesome ticking sound that kicks in at 1:04 i remember not being able to progress in the game once i got to the palace because i would just sit there and tap on my controller forever

yea a) its about mitsudas music and b) the ocean palace is the work of the queen of zeal and her loyal citizens .. you might as well call it "zeal palace"

I love it how when you're traveling around Zeal, everything sound mystical and calm.

Then you enter the castle and you know something nasty is going to happen.

Starting from 1:05, you can just tell there's some tyranny and corruption going on there, even if you skip through all the script from the previous buildings and don't know what's going on. I absolutely LOVE how well the music in Chrono Trigger fits through all situations of the game.

Though I don't think we would fing the musics as great if we listened to them for the first time. Out-game. See what I mean. The nostalgic memories coming along the tracks is what make us perceive them as totally ass-kicking.
