  • Many drummers decline as they age - either through illness, such as Louis Bellson or just old age, as with Max Roach. Their performances just before they died are rather sad to watch. It is great to see Elvin playing like a man half his age so late in life.

  • His wife was Japanese. Keiko, her name. I like that. Long live interracial dating as well!

  • Hearing Elvin when I was 13 years old at the Jazz Showcase in Chicago changed my life, that experience was what made me want to become a professional musician. Elvin will always be one of my musical heroes!

  • ppl like this dont really die because they live through their music, and music like this will always be enjoyed regardless of generation

  • Elvin is the ultimate drummer. He reaches into a very deep place. He will always be my number one inspiration

  • 0:41 this is the shit : )

  • chi c'era a Città della Pieve nel 1975 ad ascoltarlo ? grande .

  • You are still the master Elvin !!!!!!!!!!! You play to my soul and helps me know that everything is going to be okay,,,,,,,,,,Thanks Dad!!! especially at 2:14 he really cooks in a cool way. Always grinning, how could you not love Elvin.....

  • IL MIGLIORE...

    Elvin's undead

  • grazie Giorgio per il tributo al MAESTRO

  • Elvin was already very ill at this time. But what a thunder! I consider myself blessed for having seen him live!

  • @chippunk93 yo man im the bassist on this clip

it was a rental bass and yes it was very small .

  • a master, my inspiration

  • Elvin is a Jazz Rocker !!!!

  • cazzo stavo là.grazie di averlo pubblicato

    concerto indimenticabile..

    è il re

    SWING!!

  • maybe he's just a big bassist

  • My God, that is how you TOUCH a cymbal!!! (2:51) Long Live the Emperor!!!

  • @firetape Yeah. That cymbal is still vibrating.

  • He probably means he likes the emotion and color of jazz.

  • great, fantastic, marvelous, elvin is the king

  • you should go bury your head in some sand and stay there. don't be coming on to youtube with that crap when you obviously don't know what the hell you are talking about. peace

  • lol ur so narrow-minded

  • 2:14 > 2:50 is the reason why I love jazz.

  • I saw Elvin Play at the jazz festival in detroit his band played an hour and he never stopped in between songs he is still to be reckoned by drummers like royster and the dream theater drummer

    \

  • what happened to music? how does weezer sell albums, when there have been drummers like this? i wish i had the dedication to practice this much, i wish i could have herd him or buddy rich play live. or better yet together, that would have been amazing.

  • because weezer are awesome

  • Great drummer. Was he ill with something, or just old age took him?

  • im pretty sure it was age. it was heart failure or sumthing

  • Heart Failure.

  • so he's 76 yrs old in this clip. incredible...

  • He's in the song, and you can tell. It's almost like the song is playing him, and he is just going for the smooth ride.

  • 1:41 to 1:50 brings me to tears; the song, his facial expression, and the soul of the music. A truly remarkable musician.

  • Elvin was swingin' to the end...

  • I saw and talk to Elvin in ottawa in the same time period and tour project with Yamaha.Hey must of known he was sick. My dad and he were great friends

    Bless you Mr.Jones

  • Elvin was not only one of the best jazz drummers of all time, he as was also great composer and babd leader.

  • Elvin doesn't need to speak. He speaks through the drums!

  • this made me a bit sad. he reminds me of my grandpa... he was playing drums in 3 bands when he was 88. drumming will keep you young!

  • Man he's old here, and he can't almost talk.

But anyways, he is a legend!

  • Epic

  • he still played great despite the end being near. I really need to track down the Elvin Blue Note Mosaic as its OOP, always loved the guy. His last album, "The Truth: Recorded Live at the Blue Note" is great as well, couple of terrific Mike Brecker solos on there.

  • This is so moving.... Elvin showed the way to play this music; with passion.

  • Elvin is the man

  • What a beautiful person.

  • I love you ELVIN

    and thanks for your Music

    Grazie mille

  • Majestic.
