  • dedication.

  • Do you still have the tutorial available? I've seen a lot of great designs for wings, but these are by far the best I have ever seen. I tried to access your site, but it is not working. I would be very interested in learning how to build these step by step. Of course I would link any credit back to you for the design. If the tutorial still is available, I'd love to take a look at it. Thanks in advance!

  • i like how these wings are like and been trying to find away to make my own and i tried looking at the website you listed and its not working...

  • My friend and I are going to be cosplay Dark and Krad and we both agreed that we love you wing design! Since we are both making our cosplays, we wondered if perhaps you could tell us how to make these wings? We wouldn't post it anywhere and we would give you credit :) We would even take pictures for you :D

  • do you sell wings like this one?? if so can you make some articuno blue ones? and how much do you charge?

  • @semie07

Thank you, but no, it took me 5+ years to design and build these. I posted this to encourage others to follow their dreams and develop their own designs. Best Wishes,

    -Rachel

  • This might be a dumb question, but what is that wire mesh stuff you use to poke the feathers into called? Thanks.

  • @BSTUKS No questions are "dumb", :) the mesh is aluminum screening, like what is used in windows. Kind Regards!

    -Rachel

  • Awesome Video! I'm actually making a morgana costume for a con coming up and I'm having issues with the skeletal part of my wings. If I may ask what do you use to hold the wings up? And how do you adjust it to where you can move them with your arms? Help D: I'm drowning lol

  • @XAkikoCattX Thanks! Don't drown (pulls your head up above the water and into the and, and checks to make sure you re breathing) I put brass wire along the hard leather belt with a hand-made hook, then I slid beads into the nylon string and tied a number of knots into the string to ensure they stayed on line. When the string is pulled through the hook, the wing stay open. unhook them to collapse the wings. Easy!

  • @reragatz :D Awesome! Thank you !! <3

  • impresionante!!!! sin palabras!!! excelente!!!!

  • Damn this is helpful! I wish it wasn't in 240 though, I want to see the detail in it's full glory.

  • Gotta love the songs from Feet of Flames.

  • What I want to know, were did you get the feathers?! All dos Feathers..

  • You are too awesome.

  • I absolutely love ur wings <3

can you send me a tutorial on how to make them please? :D

  • Beautiful

  • this is impressive. :)

  • those are super super awesome how do you make them move?

  • O.O totally amazed!

  • btw, if you ever used those during sex, I would laugh so hard.

  • wow. how did it feel to live out a fantasy like that and be a winged elf?

  • Wow! You are crazy dedicated and crazy creative and crazy clever! Those wings are easily the most beautiful I've ever seen!

  • @BluestormsSong Thank you! It is a work of love/fun for me. Best Wishes!

  • Is there a web sight with more info?

  • can you tell me the name of this song pleas... i needed please.. :D

  • Wow.. those are unbelievably stunning. ^_^ I've been a big fan of the Avariel for many, many moons, and love that you've depicted one of the most beautiful, yet one of the least known fantasy races so gorgeously. ^_^ HUGE kudos!! And nice posing, too! It's great to see that not only can you engineer a gorgeous pair of wings, but you know what to do w/them, too! ^_^

  • **laughs** An Avariel fighting a Drow. That made me giggle. Nice work on the wings.

  • ... But can she fly?

I kid, I kid. That was awesome, love those beautiful wings. You really are a modern day Da Vinci. It's like a feat of Engineering, Art and Construction.

  • @Irishfreedom Thank you!

  • Their gorgeous! Where did you get the feathers? And how much was this? I'm going to comic-con and the wings are perfect!! 0___0 must have them!

  • Please write me one more thing:

How did you do, that the wings one time are obtuse, and sometimes are not? There is some system that you can make it automatically? How did you do that?

    Thanks for sharing!

  • @ScaryHands I used iPhoto (for Macintosh) to make the video. It is easy to learn, and lots of fun to work with (I am biased) The apple store lets you play with it and spend some time getting to know it. Best of luck!

  • @reragatz I meant wings, not video...on some pictures your wings are obtuse (open/wide) and on some not.

    Thanks.

  • I just got a pair of feather angel wings. The only problem is that the little lace ribbons that tie around my shoulders to hold them up do NOT work. Any suggestions on how to keep the wings from folding over and sadly leaning to the side? :(

  • @iralas My sympathies. My wings were built into a scrap backpack (for padded shoulder straps)on aluminum screening (feathers woven in and glued), and a RVC tube frame under the screening. My advice: get an idea, (cheaply) test it and use it as an inspiration. I look forward to what you do. If you have a very big issue, I'd be happy to take a stab at trying to figure it out. send me a message if you'd like. Take Care, and Best of Luck!

    -Rachel

  • @iralas My sympathies. I avoided that problem by building in internal frame work with a central back plate that everything screws into. For the strap, I'd use backpack straps or nylon strapping (like for fanny packs) Hope that help. Best of Luck!

  • @reragatz I am fascinated by wings since I was a little girl and plan to make my own one day. I must ask, are they real feathers or fake silk feathers?

Amazing, I have seen a lot of good wings and I must say yours are the best!

  • Which is the last song, the one at the credits? I'd love to have it.

  • WOW JUST WOW!!!

  • ........ YOU ARE THE MOST SMARTEST AND COOLEST PERSON ON EARTH!!!

  • @konni1231 *blushes* I hope some day to have eared your praise. Thank you very much!!

  • Hi Rachel, Awesome job. Lovethat you posted the plans as well. Thanks for sharing your talent and skills

  • yes i know but looking for the other one

  • They're beautiful. 8'D Unbelievable!

  • can thees wings make u fly XD i luv them btw

  • @kokyalord Only your dreams. Thank you, they are a work of passion. (An art student getting a masters in Engineering.) Best of luck to you. Take Care! WhatI learned:: Dreams are for per pursuing, as long as they are kind and helpful.

  • First of all, awesome wings; hands down the cleanest and best proportioned set I've seen on the Tube. Good color choice too. Secondly, please, what is that amazing song that plays at the beginning of the vid?

  • @vatheryl Its called 'Kaleidoscope of Mathematics' its from movie 'Beautiful mind'.

  • @member186 you are awesome. Thank you.

  • @vatheryl It is "A Kaleidoscope of Mathematics" by James Horner used in the soundtrack for "A Beautiful Mind"

  • @reragatza Ta very much. What about the other the one with the Irish lilt to it. I love the wings too.

  • My only question is what kind of feathers are those? They look incredible, but the video quality is too blurry, so I can't really tell.

  • @rentheadangelcollins Golden Pheasant tail feathers.

  • @rentheadangelcollins Golden Pheasant Tail Feathers from Ostriches Online

  • @reragatz Thanks! ^^

  • @rentheadangelcollins They are Golden Pheasant Tail Feathers.

  • @rentheadangelcollins Golden Pheasant Tail feathers, and pheasant almond feathers

  • Very cool, how about some video of it in action.

  • Very cool, how about some video of it in action.

  • i would really like to know what music u used for this vid

  • @cyberfixx One of the songs is in the Description to the right ;)

  • @cyberfixx "A Kaleidoscope of Mathematics" from "A Beautiful Mind", by James Horner

  • I would love to see this reuploaded in higher quality!

  • I'm trying to create my own fairy wings like the ones in the movie Ever After. Do you got some tips?? TY!:)

  • @MsMeyara make test runs for materials, then don't give up!! Good Luck!

  • @reragatz What kind of materials do you recommend before I start with a lot of ideas, but they won't work????XD

  • @MsMeyara PVC Tubes work well, as does aluminum screening, and tail feathers (Golden Pheasant)

  • @MsMeyara PVC piping, aluminum screening, Carriage bolts (Hinge), Golden Pheasant Tail Feathers (and almond feathers), nylon string, Super Glue, best of luck!

  • @MsMeyara PVC piping + a heat gun helps. Aluminum screening works great. Super glue works well too (too keep the feathers in the screening). Try testing materials for strength, after many tests, you'll find some things that work well. Movies also help (Like Constantine, Lord of the Rings, The Abyss) Best of Luck!

  • @MsMeyara Gather lots of reference material (legally) and make a "mock up" (a fake reference version to learn from). gather materials and play with them to learn what their strengths and weakness are. then look over your design and make changes as necessary. Have fun enjoy, and take lots of photos. Best of luck! I look forward to seeing what you make!

  • AWESOME !!!!

  • AMAZING

  • This. Is. AWESOME.

  • @evanescencehimlove Thank you!

  • How did you get the wings to move/change position? My brain fails.

  • @toughgirl06 two-hinge pull chord, carefully lengthened to open enough, but well.

  • @toughgirl06 I built in a pull chord that opens each wing individually, then pull then together to open it.

  • I am drowning in awesomeness.

  • How do those wings move?? Too cool!!!

  • @kctjohnson 1 hinge, a pull chord (Nylon), and two PVC pipes attached to each other with a single carriage bolt.

  • @kctjohnson Thanks! Pull chord is how they move. The hinge: a carriage bolt.

  • That is just a stunning set of wings

  • o and the wings

  • <3 the music

  • where can I buy feathers?

  • @ScaryHands I used ostriches online. One tip: buy a few for reference and making sure your design works. Best of luck!

  • @reragatz Agreed. I used the same place.

  • Do you think if I could pay for the whole work on wings you could make me a pair... If you could make me a pair plz contact me at: megWrunnner@yahoo.com plz!! :)

  • @SariSumdac14 hello... I have the same question. Please let me know on scaryhands@gmail.com

  • Oh I would have loved to work next to you and be witness to your brainstorming. Hell, I would love to be standing next to you to see those awesome wings! Thank you thank you thank you thank you....^100 for sharing this! It goes to show that my ideas aren't crazy!

  • what is the first song

    i love it

  • @myteddylovemy "A Kaleidoscope of Mathematics", by James Horner and the film "A Beautiful Mind"

  • how much it cost to make them.. btw.. very beautiful costume :3

  • @Asa922 I spent about $1,500 on materials. Thank you. To me. it is a work of love/passion/education/learning/creativity/art. Art + Engineering = Very fun.

    Thank you!

  • Do I need to tell how much I would want to have wings.......

  • PLEASE TELL ME HOE TO MAKE THE WINGS I LOVE TO MAKE COSTUMES

  • @12vegetadragonballz Build a "mock up" (cheap cost, used to test materials and the design) and adapt your design by what you learn. Then be sure to take lots of pictures as a reference/ creation process. I look forward to seeing what you make. One useful class: Statics. Best of luck to you!!

  • The Avariel.... SAVER OF HUMENS

  • @WireMosasaur Haha I couldn't remember where I'd heard this song before, and then I saw your comment XD pure win

  • Just stunning! the details..things that most seem to forget, like the arch of the wing. just...amazing all the way around!

  • thats soooo awsome

  • three questions. 1. where the heck would anyone get that many feathers. 2. how on earth did she teach herself to wire those and 3, where was the switch in her costume?!

  • @PsychoticPhey 1. Ostriches online 2. I'm an engineering student who loves to build things. 3. ? I'm a bit confused about this one. I kept the whole costume in my hotel room 'till it was time to go to the convention.I had Pull Chords hanging down near my belt to open up the wings.

  • I danced to this song in Irish step dance class xD

  • You should shoot a epic film with those, some green screen, and After Effect's,you'd be good to go!:D

  • The makers of AD&D *almost* let you use their pictures?!? After the work you put into that costume and performance, they should hire you as their spokesmodel!!!!!!!

  • @TSLittleMermaid *blushes* Thank you, you are so kind.

  • Phenomenal!!! I'm working on some devil/demon wings w/full movement and the ability for them to come alive and curl a bit from 'elbow to wing tip. No feathers though, wowza! the grace, beauty, and look was very fitting for the woman wearing them.. Thanks for posting, sweet
