  • is julian the child of andrew?

  • thank you

  • Superb intonation, tone, performance!

  • My dad was her roadie when she toured with James Galaway. I didn't get to see her perform live until I was seventeen. She's superb.

  • Yma Sumak had 5 octave range, she could hit upper F, but that's just a voice phenomenon, is that important? Cleo Laine is a superior impeccable versatile performer. This particular item is a pure gem. I wonder if Sumak is still alive. I knew her as a child in 60's.

  • Nope, actually, Sumac passed away in late 08. Loved her voice, and love Cleo's too!

  • I saw her sing this with James Galaway and it was superb. When she was touring here in Seattle in the 70s. My voice teacher suggested I go see her so I bought two tickets and remember this like it was yesterday.

  • cleo delivers another gem that has you riveted to the edge of your seat with her vocal dexterity - a pulse-pounding rendition that has it all.

  • Her voice is so soothing.

  • magnificent

  • I wish this version had been recorded for an album.... its never been recorded with this arrangement or JLW has it?

  • her voice is very lovely. the big band was awesome!

  • Nice music, good play!

  • She is lovely. That was a beautiful performance.

  • I have loved Cleo Laine since I was a small child. She used to be on television a lot when I was younger. It's such a shame we don't see more of her. I recently saw her on a chat show and she is looking great for a woman of 80.

  • The last time I saw Dame Cleo Laine, she was visiting my homeland; asking about possible real estate property. Hope she bought a villa or something.

  • She lives in London nice big place stables and all I have an invite..Ha but I'm in CA USA

  • I'd never heard of her before, now I think I have somebody else to add to my list of great singers...flawless.

  • 7 octaves mate not many can do that

  • i can do 8

  • Well.....with all due respect, sealerdave, I I believe her range was more like four-and-a-half to five octaves. STILL quite impressive, and a whole lot more notes than I can do. Heck, most people can't even READ five octaves!

  • You are probablly right who was that 7 octave gal Ema Sumac ? or ?? By the way does anyone know who sang "My Way" in the 60's Amarican black lady singer, boy its fantastic I have it on tape from the 60's but I don't know who she is...

  • Yeah, you're thinking of the Peruvian singer Yma Sumac. Still around, though up in years, now (personally, I think 7 is a bit generous). Don't know about the singer who did "My Way." Of course if it's multi-octave ranges that get your attention, remember the late singer Minnie Riperton (five-and-a-half octaves easy). She has lots of stuff on here. Check out Rachelle Ferrell, too. These ladies could not only soar in the whistle tones, but their voices are delights to hear in any register.

  • aretha franklin. u can get it off it tunes... its pretty amazing

  • Really great. Fantastic! Great singing. My dad doesn't like it though.

  • One of my favorite singers. I saw her at least 5 times in person when I lived in the San Francisco Bay Area. Great!

  • I did not even realise she was half black lol

  • I saw Cleo in concert in 1977, and it was my first realiztion of the singing voice as musical instrument. She is sublime!

  • Cleo is a great Black Briton.

  • half-Black Briton

  • Yes. She and Shirley Bassey are friends.

  • Her talent should be a crime. That voice is velvet, irresestable rich chocolate, just divine! One's ears almost don't know what do do with the sounds. Thank goodness for Cleo Laine and her genius talent.

  • Brava! Well said. Cleo is amazing on every level.Seeing her live was one of the great musical thrills of my life.

  • lol...they have the same haircut

    nice song :D

  • I believe Cleo Laine was discovered at Mellow Lane School,Hayes End,when she entered a singing competition, a schoolfriend of mine also entered, and her brother, Alec Campbell played with the Crane River Jazz Band at the Southall Royal Artillery base. I also recall her name may have been Clementina Langridge. That was in the 50's - I was very young.

  • Cleo Laine was born in 1927...she would have been in her mid 20's to early 30's in the fifties...she looks great and ever young doesn't she?

  • She certainly does. If what you say is accurate and I prefer to believe it is, then it's reassuring to know that she is six years older than I am. I am immodest enough to believe I look ok too. It may be my philosophy - "Never worry about something that may never happen, and if it does deal with it."

  • I wish she'd learn the words to those songs!

  • Miss Cleo Laine is an artist that with her voice and musicality can take you to places that nobody could. I am lucky that I saw her twice and she was marvelous! Thank you so much for sharing this beautiful singing, in our today's world we are in great need to listen more than ever this kind of artist. God Bless You Miss Laine!!!

  • MY GOD. This woman has the most divine singing voice.

  • What a final at the end, great version !

  • Toots Thielemans wrote a great tune. Great playing

  • Nice music, good play!
